I love what JzBoy did with the whole identity thing - identity is a HUGE thing in Touhou. Identity is what defines who you are and - to a certain extent - your power levels. The below is just me theorizing, but here we go. Main example - Junko, from legacy of lunatic kingdom. by purifying beings, she creates pseudo-gods, stripping them of parts she deems unnecessary - akin to removing parts of their identity. Thus, with Yukari manipulating the boundaries of identity, between two magicians - Alice and Marisa - she effectively blends the two together, akin to the reverse of what Junko does. Junko removes the dirt from the pond, Yukari adds it in. Thus, Marisa temporarily gains the power level of Alice - who we don't have concrete numbers for, but is definitely quite powerful to the point that even other youkai like Patchouli are willing to acknowledge her fighting capability. This comes into play later in the fight, when Marisa somehow *tears apart reality* and deals damage to Asriel. Again, we don't know Alice's true power, but Alice stated that Marisa has 2/7th the strength of herself. Thus, I do believe this scene is Marisa harnessing Alice's true power to force the rules of Spellcards, which says that nobody is truly invincible, and even if they are, it's only for a limited time.

The interesting part is that Alice is called “7-colored magician”, and Marisa has only 2 colors in her clothing design. It was also highlighted in a dialogue, when Alice said that Reimu’s chances of beating her are ~28%, which is exactly 2/7.

it's amazing how jzboy manages to capture the difference between a character who fights with rules and a character fighting with the intent to kill. for instance, the amount of times asriel interrupted marisa as she tried to use milky way, or when asriel shot straight past marisa's *non-directional lasers*, or when asriel sent a direct star straight at marisa while she was preparing event horizon.

I liked how, as soon as she realized she really was in a fight for her life, Marisa went straight to using bombs. The spellcard system only limits how many bombs you get per 'life' because of the girls' sense of fair play; there's nothing stopping her from just spamming Master Spark/Final Master Spark if the rules get thrown out. Makes me wonder how Meiling, Reisen, or the other 'meme loser' girls would fair in a no-holds-barred fight.

You can't even really catch her by surprise, because she gets _stronger_ when she isn't paying attention -- Marisa cites her doing Buddha-like feats like fish jumping out of a river to support her when she walks into a river without looking, it's the same ability.

i remember watching this years ago when i was still an undertale fan and know nothing about touhou. i forgot my reaction to this back then but i do remember being confused on who are these "lunarians" and of course, marisa and other touhou characters. little did i know, i would eventually become a touhou fan and know these things. (i still like undertale a bit) (also, good choice of music, especially the part where marisa was pissed. bloody amazing.)

@@oofi1 yeah, the mobile game is surprisingly good. For PC I would recommend Touhou 14 and 17 to play first since these are quite easy ones. The choice is up to you, but these two are probably better for a starter.

I'm not even an Undertale fan, but I appreciate the mix of humor and seriousness, fabulous spell cards with their kill-aimed counterparts, and of course the ending scene is so cute. All the small details like the music changes, background changes, Alice briefly appearing since it's mainly based on IN, Tewi's white flag, the scenes referencing the Touhou fighting game spinoffs, showing the hitbox and grazing mechanic, even Yukari gapping the rest of her and Reimu's opponents! I feel like after battling Sakuya, Frisk had became somewhat traumatized about that whole experience, but Chara was more intrigued by it, which is why they managed to carry around the knife she gave them. The cards system is basically a gamification of their actual abilities as stated in 'Perfect Memmento In Strict Sense'. The system itself is meant to handle disputes in verse. Anyway, they have to bind their abilities to the rules of the system. One of the rules is non-lethality. Touhou has a problem of having disgustingly busted characters that can't actually use their full abilities. The poster-child of the franchise and central protagonist Hakurei Reimu (yes, I write last names first) has an inate born ability called 'fantasy nature', where long as she's frivolous and going with the flow. Everything WILL go her way, and reality is distanced from her on a conceptual basis. In other words, she can never be hit regardless of distance or power. (You can probably guess that such a thing isn't allowed within the spellcard rules.)

@@thetruegamer194 that is true, however just because Marisa isn’t an immortal vampire with the power to destroy everything, a hell raven with the power to control nuclear fusion, or an immortal goddess who can control boundaries she still isn’t weak by any means, I too haven’t played any mainstream touhou games but judging by the amount of things they have to dodge in every game asriel would have to make up some crazy attacks on the fly in order to just hit her, plus she’s used to having to deal with insane bullet hells while also creating her own so I don’t think asriel would last long unless he pulled out his final form and even then he would have to kill her before his asriel side takes control from Flowy and stops it, and I don’t see that happening in time considering how small your hit box is in touhou and how maneuverable the characters are

@GIOVANNI MARTINEZ I agree, but I think that unless he pulls out his final form which allows him to make it so people can’t move it would probably end up as a stalemate because Marisa would have too much trouble with his attacks but at the same time she wouldn’t be able to do anything to him because of his infinite defense so I’m pretty sure either it would go until they are both so tired that neither can fight or asriel would get a couple lucky shots and could possibly win
