JZX110 Mark II - Changing DVD Navigation Region

I went to change the DVD Navigation region and firmware from Japanese to the English Firmware, however I made a mistake whilst following the Russian forums. I accidentally selected North American Firmware (the text was in Japanese and I forgot to translate it). Anyway after some research I found I could put the North American Firmware in and then Jump back to the secret menu and select the Australian Touch Firmware Region. After this, Australian maps have been working great.
When I can get my hands on another JZX110 that needs converting, I will record this process again to show exactly how it should be done. However, in the second part of the video, selecting the Location buttons are in the exact same order as they were with Japanese Firmware. This may be of help to others in the meantime if they would like to use it to convert to their region.

Hi i know the video quite old but thought i ask, i have a toyota crown 2005 jzs171 estate, i checked the navi box its exactly same as yr including part number 1- will that work my car wich is exact same unit? 2-if dose how to get that framewear? Any help much appreciated it

If you are in Australia, look for 'Whereis Maps 22' it will contain the correct firmware for Australian maps. I don't have details on any overseas map options.

Hey, unfortunately series 1 is a no-go for Australian maps. Series 2 navigation unit is the only one that can take the Australian maps and just highlighting that only the navigation becomes english, not the rest of the screens on the EMV as that is stored in the screen software itself and cannot be changed.

Hello ! Like another user, I just got a Mark 2 Blit IRV, great car (with the interior that looks very much like yours), have the japanese version DVD, and original firmware from 2002. I don't know if it will work buying a DVD for Europe without changing the firmware, the menu language is not really an issue once you get used to it. What do you think @Krishneil Garib ?? Also, how can I know if it's a series 1 or series 2 unit ? I have access to the "hidden" service menu with some versions written : Model JS01 / Main 070C / Rom 1900 / DISK: V 07.05.02 . Hey, the blit is a bit of an oddball when it came to series 1 or series 2 manufacture years. The accessories updates like the nav unit didn't follow the same series split as a normal mark ii. The real way to confirm if you have a compatible unit is to see if your part number ends in 13010 or 13031. If it does then you're in luck with updating the units region. Changing the region is easy enough but you need to make sure you can locate an appropriate disc for your region. I think the cut off for the correct firmware might be around 2014 map year (well it is for australia anyway) Thanks for watching and I hope that helps somewhat.

I have to extract the unit anyway to see the connections that have been made by the previous owner, so I will check the part number at that time. I might as well change the unit if I find one at a good price as my screen is really yellow-ish now. I have another question: are you aware of the diagnostics that can be made using the audio unit (not the gps one) with some special key combinations ? I have seen something like that in a russian manual, and was wondering if it's a good idea to change the audio unit as I might loose a valuable tool to help me for the maintenance of the car...

@@GeraldMeurant a lot of research and trial and error! The emv screen isn't really part of the equation to make it work. It is considered a dumb terminal that just receives an sends basic data. The dvd nav unit is all you would need to change in the glovebox as thats the main computer if you will. The radio doesnt do much either so you can swap that out if needed and use a beatsonic kit or the resistor method to keep the emv screen working without complaints. Also the screens are quite old so finding one that doesn't have a tinge of yellow might be hard.

@@GeraldMeurant and no sorry unaware of any maintenance mode through the audio headunit. Its all through the emv screen or a combination. Hold the middle button below the emv screen and turn the headlights on and off 3 times.

i got to the service menu and changed it to my location. in mny case option 3 for USA. but the proper toyota/lexus cds iv bought with same version as yours dont seem to work, there the usa cds tho, but there split between east and west for some reason. but wont read the cds period. they do spin in the drive tho

Ahh hard to say bud. The disc needs to be around the 2014 year I think because after that it may not support the firmware. I'm hoping you selected USA-TSW if you selected any other one, likely you will have a hard time finding the firmware to jump through. Not sure I can help with this issue if you're in the USA. If it was in Aus I had a disc to use.

Hey mate, you will need to look for a Toyota/Lexus Europe West disc image. Either locally or 'source' one online. Try one from around the 2012 to 2016 ish year range it should hopefully work. Remember to select the correct region touch version when doing the hidden menu. Goodluck! Oh also burn it to a DVD+R, i believe minus R discs won't be read. Depending on iso image size you may need to burn to a dual layer dvd disc.

Hey do you have any more info about the battery removal in the box?

Desoldering it from the pcb is the best option. Little tricky because of the proximity to other components. Don't give it too much heat, the batteries can explode (lets not go there but I've had that happen before).. using LEDs on it didn't seem to drain it enough even after a couple days. Whats the reason for resetting it anyway? Did you select the wrong language?

Hey mate, the dvd player you mention is just purely for navigation. It says DVD on there because the navigation discs are on DVD disc, its not actually able to play a video DVD.

Hey mate, what year is yours? This wont work for every 110. Seems series 2 dvd navi units are usually able to be converted but series 1 may not work. Also keep in mind its only the Navi part that becomes english with Aussie maps. The climate control etc is still in Japanese. I won't charge anything bro it honestly takes 5mins if it works. Let me know if you are series 2.

Hey mate, I believe the series 2 171 crowns changed navigation units and the update process may not work. I know it does work for the series 1 though. Best bet is to get into the Modern Toyota Crown Owners group on Facebook and have a search through the group for info or ask the question. The russian forum I mentioned was a mix of TourerV.ru and drom.ru forums. Unfortunately don't have the direct link but the information is scattered throughout the forum. Let me know how you go!
