"Constant Craving" is a song written by k.d. lang and Ben Mink, and performed by k.d. lang on her album Ingénue.[1][2] The song first made the charts in 1992, and won her the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1993[3] and an MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video.
"Constant Craving" peaked at number eight on Canada's RPM Top Singles chart and number 38 on the US Billboard Hot 100, giving Lang her only US top-40 hit to date. It also reached number two on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart. In the United Kingdom, the song was initially a modest hit when released in 1992, but following a reissue in 1993 in the wake of its American success, it reached a new peak of number 15 on the UK Singles Chart.

She won the Grammy for female pop vocalist for this song. She was up against Mariah Carey Gloria Estefan and Amy Grant. Everyone here has a number one except KD Lang. It was a nice top 40 hit the US I love this song still.

I just feel like K.D. Lang could have had more commercial success, but was blocked from this because of her sexuality and non conforming image. Country wouldn't give her a chance, not much has changed (Lil Nas X). With pop she got a spin but it didn't last because she didn't do the "pop girl" thing.

This was the first kd song I heard (and yes, she doesn't capitalize her first name) and I was really taken by the beauty and infectiousness of the melody as I see you were too. I will definitely send you a few more from kd. Your good taste, which I saw from the first time I watched a reaction of yours, Empress, comes through here, not surprisingly. Enjoyed your singing along!

I think genre wise k.d. lang was always someone that couldn't be categorized. She got most of her airplay on pop radio. U.S. Country radio would rarely touch her which was probably more to do with her being a lesbian. She is huge in Canada and has an enormous following with us in the LGBT crowd. Oddly enough her earlier strictly country music sound was spectacularly done and production-wise and vocal ability-wise was far superior to a lot of the U.S. country music during the same time...in my opinion.

This artist was more know in the alternative radios and the LGBT community, since she was herself a lesbian. This song came at her second album Ingénue in 1992. This song was a major single and her biggest hit, her only top 10 in her native Canada, but was also her only single to enter the US charts and it's reaching the top 40 (reaching n.38). This song was nominated in the Grammys for best pop female vocal performance with Céline Dion, Mariah Carey, Vanessa Williams and Annie Lennox and she winning the Grammy this year for this category. Whitney Houston give her trophy for her when she get up on the stage and received the trophy.

❤️‍🔥 Finally watching this! Glad u loved it. Kathryn Dawn Lang’s voice is the smoothest and most tuneful country/folk/easy listening voice since Patsy Kline and Karen Carpenter. This was her biggest hit, but her work is well worth looking into, even just for the soothing beauty of her voice. She’s also a very witty and intelligent person. Wonderfully humble despite her success, and exquisite gift for song. This song is so important to LGBTQ people. KD was a bravely out gay women since 1992, and this song is about how, for people who are oppressed for who they love, desire is not only felt as lust, but in the darkest times when the world is gaslighting us to feel monstrous and wrong, desire can be like a light of truth. That constant craving beneath our skin that drives us forward and let’s us know that something we feel this deeply and permanently is strong and true enough to withstand the toxic and undermining way we’re often treated. Constant Craving is one of our anthems.

My favorite vocalist. This song is heart wrenching poetic wisdom at its finest. The story of life perfectly synopsized. I remember hearing it from my childhood and then again many times in college when I re-discovered it. She was highly regarded by Roy Orbison, Bonnie Raitt, etc. ... a lot of old school legends. She also had a very controversial magazine cover in the early 90’s with Cindy Crawford that’s worth googling! She’s got some other great songs I hope get requested. Another great reaction, Empress!

Or Hallelujah.. The Valley or Love Is Everything. There is, an incredible version of patsy Cline's Three Cigarettes in An Ashtray.. Live in Sydney or Johnny Carson.. She can belt xx I think she is one of the best vocalists alive today x

k.d. (she insisted her name be spelled in lower case) is a Canadian lesbian ICON! Her voice is among the greats. She started off as a quirky country act with a power voice and her band, but her solo stuff went more mainstream adult contemporary/pop/rock. Her voice though kept it in the country lane, though. 'Crying', as others have mentioned, is fab. I really love her older stuff like 'Angel with a Lariat' as well.

Pitch perfecxt always and on the album the backgrounds are done by her. She started a s a country singer with wacky songs but really wanted to do more. You can't really classify her music. It combines country, folk, pop, r&B and jazz. Can't label it.

I love love love this song that doesn't really fall into any genre. I'm not even mad that it basically lifts the chorus melody from the semi-forgotten disco song Midnight Love Affair by Carol Douglas. I love both songs, but k.d.'s voice is so good, she can elevate anything. Great song.

So this album was her 5th album. It was the album she made after she was pushed out of country. I think she called this "Lounge-core"...though I supposed the industry would label her adult contemporary from this album onward. You should definitely check out some of her earlier country music. Her first two albums she called "cowpunk." (the indie album "A Truly Western Experience" and her first major label album "Angel with a Lariat"). Her third album she worked with Owen Bradley, who was Patsy Cline's producer, and was really going for a countrypolitan, country crooner, Patsy Cline sound--the country industry really loved at that point. Then her fourth album, Absolute Torch and Twang, is phenomenal. She left Nashville and recorded it in Canada and tried to incorporate some Candadian country influences...and the country industry got super upset that she was clearly at....vegetarian. At least that's what they said. She left country after that and did the album ingenue--which was the album "Constant Craving" was on. But I'd definitely recommend two songs off of "Absolute Torch and Twang" if you want to get her at the best of her country moments: "Pulling Back the Reigns" and "Trail of Broken Hearts." Those two have some powerhouse vocals for sure.
