"So In Love" was written by Cole Porter for a 1948 Broadway musical, "Kiss Me Kate", which was an interpretation of William Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew". The song has been recorded/covered by dozens of vocalists over the past 7 decades and is a classic from "The Great American Songbook". Highly recommended: the cover by the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald. Enjoy! : )

What a talent. She never got the exposure or credit that she deserved in this country. Love her. Exceptional voice.

She didn't fit the mold of female singers, and her individuality was not appreciated.

@@incensejunkie7516k.d. is a Canadian singer from Alberta who hit during the mid 80s. She closed the 88 Winter Olmpic Games with her hit "Turn Me Round" where she cleared the athlete stands bringing most to dance in the snow. She started with alt-Country-punk slowly going to Country then to Soft Pop/Standards. She is one of my Top 5 favorite artists and Top 3 Female Artists.

@@davidgiles5912 I live in Alberta, and remember reading about her "cowpunk" style back in the 80's, I do know who she is. In fact, she is my all time favourite female singer. I'm referring to the poster who mentioned she never got the credit she deserved in this country. She is music royalty in Canada, so I'm not sure if they're young and not aware of this, or if they are in another country. I don't follow celebrities, but as far as I know, she either retired from touring, or music altogether, and is living in Calgary with her partner. We don't hear about her as much, but she certainly has the utmost respect in Canada.

All of the songs on the album (Red, Hot + Blue) this came from are by Cole Porter, chosen bcause not only did he write some of the most beautiful and intelligent songs of his time but also because he was gay which was in keeping with the aim of the album which was to help AIDS victims and research. It was a wonderful album and breathed life into those old songs with new and unexpected arrangements and artists, quite apart from its charitable intent. Since then it has been followed by several albums, all with titles that are variations of "Red, Hot + Blue" and all supporting the same cause. Some were collections by record companies with their signed artists, e.g. Jazz, Hot + Blue(note), Red Hot and Verve (Nova Bossa), Red Hot on Impulse. Others were by genre such as Red Hot + Dance, Red Hot & Rio, Red, Hot + Latin - Silencio = Muerte. The only other one that concentrated on one composer that I know of is Red, Hot + Rhapsody - The Gershwin Groove. They are all excellent and I have 11 of them from this one in 1990 to Red Hot and Fela (referring to African Music by Fela Kuti) in 2013, not to be confused with a previoius release called Red, Hot + Riot - The Music and Spirit of Fela Kuti which was by various artists rather than performed by Fela himself. There are likely to be others that I haven't seen or heard of but if so I might still find and buy them. There has never been an easier and more enjoyable way to support a cause.

@@malingor7042 Thank you. You've introduced me to one I didn't know about. Now all I have to do is find it. I'm not really a country fan but if it follows the pattern of the previous releases it'll be worth listening to. In many ways the Red Hot albums remind me of Playing for Change.
@malingor7042
@malingor7042 2 ай бұрын
@@Russ_Keith you're welcome. It does follow the pattern of the others, in that there's a great diversity of singers and country 'styles' within it, including some classic singers, some modern ( at time of release lol), gospel edged, rockabilly edged.. I guarantee that anyone who thinks they don't like country will find they do on there lol, because of all that. The same way people who ''don't like jazz'' think it's all atonal freeform squawks, but will happily listen to Ella Fitzgerald, or dance to Sing sing Sing.. Rh and C was started by Kathy Mattea who was ( rightfully) angry that stars weren't allowed to wear red Aids support ribbons at a country awards show. Then when they made the record lots of country stations refused to play it or publicise it! The CD is available on a Certain International Shopping Site lol

Wow, this is from "Red Hot + Blue", a Cole Porter Tribute. THis is some of the best moments. I suggest verify also 2 other great singers: Sinead O"Connor and Lisa Stansfield, respectively "You Do Something To Me" and "Down in the Depths". David Byrne "Don't Fence Me In' is another great moment in this compilation too.

Dude. You are one of my favorite go to, for reaction videos. But I was a little disappointed that you didn't comment on the video itself. The way the song was arranged and performed was a direct embodiment of that task she was doing. She was doing the laundry of her lover who was dying of AIDS. The sorrow, the longing, the love, the loyalty. All the emotions someone caring for a dying loved one would have. K.D. effectively emoted. The video itself painted in a toxic green color. To reinforce the nature of the situation and the need to sterilize the garments. One of the best songs and videos from the Red, Hot & Blue album.

I think as a gay person in the 1980's I could say we would instantly recognize what the video was depicting...all too well. This feeling pervaded the atmosphere in the era. Dark times.

I feel for you, as I lost many friends and my brother in the mid 80s and 90s. Such a tragic time in our community. I also lost my partner, but to a tragic event in 98. That deep love is still strong in my heart. Remember those who passed, not for how they died, but how they lived and enriched our lives.

I have lost many acquaintances the first 2 decades that when the Red, Hot and Blue album came out I bought it before it was available and when I worked at an Alternative Bookstore I played it every shift and sold uncountable copies of the CD. The person who purchased the music from the suppliers hated buying the CD because it wasn't cutting edge and I told when it stops selling I won't order so many copies of it.

k.d. lang is an international treasure! When I met her, she joked of her "stream of hit, 'Constant Craving.'" However, in a sane world, a rare talent like hers would have earned her decades of #1 hits. Salvo, what would it take to get you to react to k.d.'s magnificent song, "I Confess"?

Glad to be reminded of this song. It was always a favorite. Others have mentioned it was written by Cole Porter and is from a musical. It kind of plays with the mambo trend of the time. The whole album was created to build support for those fighting AIDS in the early part of the epidemic. This video really shows the side of the caretakers, people that had to help others that were sick. It was well known that it was the lesbian community who really came around to help the gay men that were sick and dying from the disease and created a bond that they still have today. We owe them so much.

"Red, Hot + Blue" was an album with covers of the songs written by Cole Porter by artists from the 80s and early 90s: Annie Lennox, Jimmy Somerville, Fine Young Cannibals, U2, Salif Keita, Les Negresses Vèrtes, Neneh Cherry, Debbie Harris + David Byrne, The Pogues * Kristie McColl.... The album was intended to raise funds for the fight against AIDS. In this clip you can see how K.D. is cleaning the house after the death of someone and feeling his absence: disinfecting the clothes, cleaning everything, that chair in the shower... So sad. WARNING: not all the songs in the album are sad.

She is a Vocal Artist/ Stylist , she has total control and can color and interpret at a stellar level. This song is a Show tune written by the composer Cole Porter . I believe it’s considered a part of the Great American Songbook.This video of a woman caring for her dying lover , off the AIDs benefit album of Porters music ( Red Hot & Blue) breaks me. Great album

So In Love is from the musical Kiss Me Kate by Cole Porter based on the Shakespeare play Taming Of The Shrew. Technically it would be a Showtune.
