Im a first generation American and bilingual. I had to translate for my parents at doctors offices,banks, and businesses. As a kid, I was always learning new vocabulary and words because I was the only one who spoke English fluently. I guess it got us this far, but I would do the same this child is doing for other children in my class who were learning English and couldn’t speak it well yet. It definitely matures you, but it humbles you immensely

The only thing I don't agree with is calling girls' argument "simple". I don't know if that's just translator's choice of words or if they really assumed it being simple, but imho it shouldn't be called like that. For these children, those are serious problems and underestimating them just because it seems lightweight from adult's perspective isn't fair. It's big deal for them so it should be described accordingly. Children's concerns are just so important as adult's. Beside that I really respect Timur. He's doing great job as it must be physically and emotionally draining for him. Thus I hope he gets extra appreciatacion from people around him!

The proper word is koryeo, not koryo. Since the ㅕ in the word 고려 can be written as yeo. And fyi the word Korea originated from koryeo, as westerners pronounced koryeo in that way and it got settled down as the official name of the country.(not 100% sure but its well known statement in korea)

I disagree with the comments about it being a burden. When I was in 3rd grade, I translated for a new student. I wanted to make the new student feel accepted. He ended up learning English fast but I'm sure he was comforted by the fact that he had someone who could translate for him.

At 3rd grade, they should not be interpreting. Just talk to them in Korean. Within a week or two, they will become fluent. Language isn't like Math or other subjects, kids have ability to absorb them extremely quickly. ESL, bilingual education, interpretation ... is all useless at that age. In fact, it can be a hindrance. Those kinds of assistance only becomes necessary as they get older. Maybe 12+? But not in 3rd grade. They can be a straight F student, but they'll master the language. It's just the way our brain is programmed.
@hayleybarbara15892 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree i teach 3rd grade public school in korea and if it was as easy as youre implying my job would be much easier than it is. Kids are certainly sponges at this age but thats only in comparison to adults they still require a lot of interpretation
@bridgiannini2 жыл бұрын
@@hayleybarbara1589 I'm guessing you're teaching English in Korea. That's different because their friends aren't speaking English 24X7 so they don't get to absorb the language. But when you put an 8 year old in an environment where one language is spoken constantly, like Korean in Korea, just leave them alone. Within weeks or months (at the latest), they will become fluent. If you're teaching English, you're just there to talk to them because that's the only time they get to interact in English. But teaching an 8 year old Korean in Korea is ridiculous. No different than teaching English to an 8 year old in England. Makes no sense. Just let them loose and let them learn from their friends and their environment. Now, if you're teaching Korean in England, yeah, sure, you need an interpreter and proper lessons. But that's completely different environment.
@tinalowen61662 жыл бұрын
They will not be fluent in a few weeks. I moved from Russia to Germany at 7. I could catch up what they are talking about after one year but still don't understand everything. After 3 years, German was the only language a speak. I still understand the first 2 languages I learned but I really struggle to speak them.
@lindalai67952 жыл бұрын
I agree. I'm a teacher. Usually only kindergarden's age under 5 or 6 that can absorbs language like sponge, without any interpreting.
@hayleybarbara15892 жыл бұрын
@@bridgiannini thats a good point tbh. Although for kids it can be overwhelming so i still think some interpretation should be used to help with some situations
