In this video, I install a K&N cold air intake on a 2014-2018 Silverado or Sierra 1500. Estimated difficulty is only a 2 out of 5 in my opinion and it should only take you about 45 minutes. For this installation you will need a 10mm socket, 8mm socket, ratchet with extensions, T10 and T15 Torx with driver, 3mm and 4mm Allen keys, an adjustable wrench, flathead screwdriver, scissors to trim off the excess rubber trim, and gloves if you prefer to keep your hands clean.
08418 coupler goes on the filter side.
08497 goes on the elbow if you have the 5.3 L engine.
08418 goes on the elbow if you have the 6.2 L engine.

does the filter not get water or dirt on it with the housing being open like that?

Not really. That rubber gasket seats against the underside of the hood when closed so imagine that little corner is basically enclosed when the hood is shut. But even if it gets a little water on it, that's not an issue. The filter is also oiled. As for dirt, the point of any filter is to filter out dirt; all filters of all kinds - even the restrictive OEM systems - come in contact with quite a lot of dust and debris.

That’s an expensive hot air intake you installed. If it is an aftermarket Air Intake and doesn’t have an enclosed filter box then I don’t want it. I monitor my IAT temps. Mine never goes above 120 degrees. With this setup you’re running close to 160 degrees IAT’s.
