To understand the story in EXO's "Ko Ko Bop" MV, you have to connect the story in "Ko Ko Bop" to the story in their "Lucky One" MV. "Ko Ko Bop" may look trippy and crazy, but if you understand EXO's storyline you will see that everything was done for a specific reason. According to the members, Ko Ko Bop is an infectious, happy dance. Hence why it's called Ko Ko BOP. I see it as they are happy to now be free from the Red Forces' control (or happy to be alive), so they are letting loose and dancing. (It can't be about drugs because that would be highly scandalous and it could never be played on the radio or seen on TV, etc. in Korea. Or, at the very least, it has to have more than one meaning, just like their song "Lotto".) There are 8 members in "Ko Ko Bop." This MV came out in 2017 and it was the first MV where Lay, EXO's remaining Chinese member, was unable to participate because of the political issues between the Korean and Chinese government at the time. I can see how people might think that Ko Ko Bop is a drug they are all taking and that is why they are acting like they are high and kind of in a loopy drugged-like state. But to really understand what is happening in "Ko Ko Bop," you have to know what was happening in their "Lucky One" MV. In "Lucky One" EXO has been captured by the Red Force who is doing experiments on EXO to try and figure out what makes them special, and to find a way to prevent them from finding and protecting the Tree of Life, etc. The members all use their powers to escape from the government facility and this is where theories say that the story in "Ko Ko Bop" picks up right after they have escaped in "Lucky One". The blue Ko Ko Bop drink that Suho mixes and the members drink -- which I now think is connected to the blue drink we see Kai drinking in their "Don't Fight the Feeling" MV and the blue drink that we see everyone drinking in their new "Cream Soda" MV -- and the pills or wafers we see them eating, was originally thought to be an elixir that is helping the members to detox from the drugs the Red Force gave them when they were being held against their will in the "Lucky One" MV. Remember, blue represents EXO and red represents the Red Force. When we see red and blue lights flashing in the same scene that's usually thought to represent a moment when EXO and the Red Force are in conflict or they are fighting with each other, etc. So that's why we think the blue drink is something good that is meant to help the EXO members. According to SM the story in "Ko Ko Bop" also shows the members soon after they have arrived on Earth and they are all experimenting with their powers. That is why in "Ko Ko Bop" we see Kai with the power of teleportation using his power to levitate and we see him do the "treadmill" move next to the car. Suho, with the power to control water, jumps into the water and disappears, and later appears inside the washing machine, etc. Xiumin has the power of snow/ice/frost, so he is using his power to create a cloud to fill the glass. Sehun uses his power to control wind to make objects float in the air. D.O. accidentally uses his power of strength/force and splits open the ground when he falls down. We see Chen with the power of thunder/lightning/electricity playing with his power. Baekhyun uses his power of light as he throws the ball in the air and creates that huge flash of light, and Chanyeol uses his power of fire to create the fireworks when he bounces the ball into the sky. The car also looks like it's driving by itself because they are using their powers to control the car, etc. Their unbridled use of their powers and the haphazard way they play with their environment around them can be explained by the fact that they were drugged in "Lucky One" and while they are still dealing with the drugs in their system, in "Ko Ko Bop" their inhibitions are lowered and they use their powers without caution. Those tattoos we can see are fake, but like everything SM does, they aren't just random tattoos, they are specific images and messages as part of EXO's storyline. So part of their story goes: The members were trapped in the maze by the Red Force in their "Overdose" MV and while they were trapped, they were captured and moved to the lab in "Lucky One" and after escaping in "Lucky One" we see them detoxing in "Ko Ko Bop." However, since then, we now have more information after EXO's "Obsession" MV part of the story was released. In "Obsession" we have discovered that the Red Force has created X-EXO clones. So, some theories now think that instead of "Ko Ko Bop" being about the EXO members, it might be showing us X-EXO. In "Obsession," the members in the bright colors with the crazy hair and makeup were the X-EXO clones and the members in the all-black outfits were EXO. Therefore, now some theories think that maybe because "Ko Ko Bop" is so colorful, that it's showing us X-EXO right after they were brought to life, and this is their first time out in the world. So, X-EXO are playing with their powers and trying to figure out how they work, and they are getting acclimated to their environment, etc. But, as you can see, to make it even more difficult to follow the story, nothing is in chronological order. As fans we have to become detectives and analyze everything that EXO does in order to try and figure out where each piece fits within the larger storyline. Although, at this point, it's only theories and educated guesses. With every new release from EXO it adds another piece to their story. Sometimes that new piece helps to confirm what we thought was happening and other times it turns everything on its head and we realize that what we thought was happening wasn't even close. We can only hope that someday SM will finally explain everything, so we will know whether what we have been thinking all along is correct.

EXO-SC (Sehun and Chanyeol) Reason why is a Korean version is because a lot of their songs are in Korean AND Mandarin ! 🩷

The performance version of EXO's "Growl" is a one-take video, which means that it was shot all in one take without any cuts or edits. However, although it is a one-take video, this does not mean they used the very first take, it just means that every time anyone made a mistake, they had to start all over again from the very beginning. While filming this MV they had to dance the choreography about 7 times and this was the take the director and producer decided to use. They actually danced this choreography for the filming of this MV until they physically could not do it anymore. But not even this take was technically "perfect." If you notice, Kai (EXO's main dancer) drops the hat in the middle of the dance in the Korean version and he smoothly bends down and picks it up. (The stealing of the hat is actually part of the choreography.) As you saw, Kai needed the hat at the end. But because it was done so effortlessly that most people don't even notice the mistake, or assume it's just part of the choreography, the director and editors decided to use this footage anyway. And if you watch the Mandarin version, if you look closely, you will see Suho (EXO's leader) steps on Sehun's foot and Sehun (EXO's youngest member, a main rapper and dancer) swats him as if to say, "hey, watch out.". :D. Fun fact: Those aren't just suits that they are wearing. Those are individualized school uniforms. The unaltered versions would be what Korean students would wear when attending school. What makes EXO's uniforms special is that no two uniforms were the same, each member has their own version. (Although school uniforms have been the norm for most girl groups as a concept since the beginning, EXO was one of the very first boy groups to use the concept in their MVs. And after "Growl" was released, almost all boy groups that came after them have had at least one MV where they wore school uniforms as part of the concept for the song.) In the beginning of the performance MV, they start out by showing 6 of the members, and as the camera spins around, we see the other 6 members. In the Korean version, we see the EXO-K (Korean) members featured first in the two groups, and if you watch the EXO-M (Mandarin Chinese) version, you will see the EXO-M members featured more prominently. (Anything that takes place before 2014, you will see all 12 original members involved.) However, what is even more impressive about "Growl", is the fact that they filmed 4 versions of the "Growl" MV, so not only did they have to perfect the dance in the Korean performance version, but they also had to do it again in the Mandarin version and then again in both the 2nd MV versions. And it wasn't like they could use the same footage, because the Korean and Mandarin versions aren't exactly the same -- the EXO-M and EXO-K members had different parts in each of the MVs -- so that just adds another element to this. EXO actually filmed 5 different videos for the song "Growl." There is still one more video that was released as part of their "Wolf" and "Growl" promotions. There is a drama video that combines their two songs "Growl" and "Wolf" and it's like a mini K-drama that is more like a movie or TV show with a complete story and the members playing characters. Here is a link to the full "Growl" and "Wolf" drama version, kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXemp42LiNOoq9U. Plus, there are several iconic live performances of "Growl" as well. If you notice, the camera movements are actually part of the choreography, because the camera is another character in the performance. Just like in EXO's "Wolf" and "Call Me Baby" MVs, etc., the camera is supposed to represent the girl that they are singing to. So that is why they are looking at the camera so intensely because they are trying to get the girl's attention. They are each trying to impress her with their moves. If you look up the English translation of the lyrics you will see that EXO are pretty much acting like a wolf or beast that can no longer control themselves around the girl, and they are warning her to be careful because all she does is make them want to growl and grab her and possess her, etc. "I’m warning you just in case (listen carefully) It’s dangerous now (so dangerous) Stop provoking me (there’s going to be trouble) I don’t even know myself ... My breath keeps on stopping You walk towards me You smile at me Maybe you’re attracted to me too .... A dark shadow has woken up inside of me Sparks fly in my eyes as I look at you Everyone step away from her (step away) It’s going to get fierce from now on I’m growling, growling, growling I’m growling, growling, growling I’m growling, growling, growling If you don’t back away then I don’t care if you get hurt ..." etc. EXO got so good at this choreography that they were able to perform the whole thing live on award shows and music programs just like they did in the MV, all while singing live as well. You should also check out their Beauty and Beast performance at the 2013 MAMA awards to see how impressive they perform the full "Growl" choreography live, kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5TUnZKKa6uWb8U. "Growl" and their one-take performance is what launched EXO into superstardom and it's what made them the most popular group in Korea. It's one of the reasons why the government has given EXO the title of Korea's national boy group. However, "Growl" came out in 2013, about a year after EXO debuted, and up until that point EXO wasn't very well known or popular. When they first debuted, many people called them "SM's biggest mistake." Because the concept of them being aliens from Planet Exo and the fact that they were designed specifically to debut in both Korea and China and several foreign Chinese members were chosen specifically to make up their own sub-unit, etc., many people had a hard time understanding how EXO would ever be successful. The group started out being branded as SM's first failure, and they thought Lee SooMan (the founder of SM) was crazy for coming up with the group. But when the one-take video for "Growl" was released, everyone began to take notice. This video was pretty groundbreaking, no group had done a one take video quite like this and it proved to the mainstream audiences that SM really did know what they were doing. Now everyone in Korea and around the world knows EXO and they have become one of the most popular groups that are one of the biggest money-makers for SM. "Growl" has become what they are most known for. "Growl" is nicknamed South Korea's second national anthem, so you may start to notice that you hear it used everywhere. It's played all over the place and is used as background music, etc. in a lot of things. It's one of EXO's biggest hits. It wasn't just popular back then, it's still very popular now. "Growl" is one of the most covered songs by trainees and rookies and it is used on almost every trainee survival reality competition, etc. I'm sure you've heard this song and didn't even realize it at the time. You pretty much can't be a fan of Kpop and not have heard "Growl" before. It's one of the most popular Kpop songs to exist. EXO even performed this song, along with their song "Power," at the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in 2018, and both songs were Olympic theme songs that could be heard at venues and events throughout the games that year. EXO was the only Kpop group to be asked to perform at the Olympics that year, which just goes to show you how influential and popular they have become.

What you said about their vocals couldn't be more true! They are considered the best male vocalists in all of kpop. Their especially prominent in their rnb songs, which they are mainly known for. I would recommend Call Me Baby, Playboy, What is Love (EXO-K), and El Dorado, just to name a few. Exo has one of the best discographies in kpop and imo none of them are in the "meh" category (some songs might take a few listens, especially if you aren't used to it tho). They have so many good songs, and none of us EXO-L's (fandom name) will be disappointed with any song you choose, even if you decide to go for some solos or subunits.🩷

In order to understand what is happening in "Lotto" you have to connect the storyline with what was happening in EXO's previous "Monster" MV. Fan theories believe that "Lotto" is the prequel to "Monster." "Monster" is from EXO's EX'Act album and "Lotto" is from their EX'Act repackaged album, which came out in 2016. How I interpret things is that the story starts in "Lotto" as EXO goes undercover and works to take down the gambling ring, which is thought to probably be run by the Red Force, and now that we know about EXO's clones from their "Obsession" MV storyline, maybe even X-EXO are involved. Fun fact: Kai -- EXO's main dancer, and one of the top two best dancers in all of Kpop -- isn't dancing in the "Lotto" MV because he was injured during this time and couldn't dance, which is why we see him sitting down in the MV. Instead, we see Lay -- EXO's Chinese member and a main dancer -- and Sehun -- EXO's third main dancer -- are the dancers highlighted in "Lotto." In live performances at this time, Kai is absent when Lay is part of the performance because he is still recovering. However, when Kai is back performing the song, Lay was absent because he was busy doing solo activities in China. In live TV network performances of "Lotto" you might also notice that they change the title of the song to "Louder" and the lyrics are changed to use the word louder instead of lotto as well. Gambling is illegal in Korea and it's one of those things that are banned from being talked about/promoted in mainstream media. So, in order to make the song TV- and radio-friendly they often have to change everything to "Louder." I think the two stories in both "Lotto" and "Monster" actually overlap. I think both MVs take place in the same location and around the same time frame, and in each MV we see the members in different moments as they try to destroy everything to do with this gambling ring. For example, we see them breaking everything in both MVs -- they smash the car in "Lotto," and in "Monster" we see the car has now been set on fire, and they burn the money and other things in "Lotto" as well, etc. At the end of "Lotto" we see the police or FBI have come in and they are just starting to take the members into custody, but in "Monster" it shows all the members have now been arrested. So, I see it as the fight starts in "Lotto" and continues in "Monster." If you have seen "Monster" you might remember, at the end of "Monster," all the members are now in custody and Baekhyun rescues them as he releases them from the back of the police van allowing them to escape, etc. The birds we see in the cage in "Lotto" are roosters -- cock fighting roosters to be exact -- and they are another form of gambling. And the dogs -- not wolves -- are probably guard dogs like what criminal enterprises use as part of their security to deter someone from causing trouble or wanting to rob them, etc. The dogs are thought to be part of the Red Forces' security efforts. Don't worry, SM and EXO don't like animal cruelty either, that's the whole point they are trying to make. It's just another form of evil that comes with gambling. As we see in EXO's "Obsession" MV, EXO are the members in all-black and X-EXO are the members in the colorful outfits with the crazy makeup and hair. Therefore, in "Monster" when we see the members in black this means they are probably the EXO members, but when we see them in the black and red outfits, we have now started to think that's supposed to be X-EXO, EXO's alter ego clones, because of the red on their outfits. Although, in "Lotto" they are pretty much in black or dark neutral colors the whole time, so that is why I think the story in "Lotto" is being told from EXO's point of view. Also in "Monster," and in parts of "Lotto," we see Chanyeol (the main rapper) has red hair. But at the end of "Lotto" when he is being arrested, he has blond hair. I think this also might mean that the Chanyeol with red hair is his X-EXO clone, while the blond Chanyeol is the good EXO member who is undercover, trying to accomplish his tasks here on Earth and help the girl, etc. (Anytime we see something or someone with red this usually indicates it has something to do with the Red Force.) Therefore, in "Lotto" and "Monster" I think what we are watching are the EXO members trying to take down X-EXO and the Red Force and stop the evil and corruption that the Red Force is inflicting on the world, which is depicted here as corruption through illegal gambling. We are not really sure what the girl takes from Chanyeol at the end of "Lotto", but it definitely wasn't money. If you pay attention to the lyrics, one of the English lines is, "I don't need no money." That is why they burn the huge stack of cash. Most theories agree that the currency that EXO values the most is flowers. There is an overwhelming use of flowers in many of their MVs, and as we see in their "Love Shot" MV for example, they aren't collecting money but flowers. And in EXO-CBX's "Hey Mama" and "Blooming Day" MVs and in EXO's "Love Me Right" MV, etc. we see them with flowers. My theory is that the girl is somehow connected to EXO's quest to find and protect the Tree of Life and that is why at the end of "Lotto" we see her secretly take something out of Chanyeol's hand -- which if you pause the MV and zoom in, you will see looks like a small video tape -- to somehow help them in their quest. The video tape is thought to be the video that D.O. is filming with the camcorder in the middle of "Lotto." It's still unclear at this point how the girl fits in the storyline, but I think, or at least I hope, that in the future we will discover more about her and what significance she has within the story. (We also think the video tape is connected to the fact that we see D.O. in the room with all the film reels in EXO's "Electric Kiss" MV.) Some say the "girl" that EXO is always singing about and you sometimes see in their MVs -- like in "Lotto" -- is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life and that is why the members are always rescuing or protecting the girl, etc. EXO's whole mission on Earth is to find and protect the Tree of Life. That's why all their songs are about being in love with a girl or being controlled by the power of the girl, such as in the lyrics of EXO's "Overdose" for example. Or how they talk about knowing they are bad news for the girl but they want her anyway and they can't help it, but in the end, they know they might destroy her -- as they say in "Monster," etc. etc. When you think of the girl as the heart of the Tree of Life, the mystery begins to unfold even more. I have seen this MV dozens of times, and each time I watch it I still see something new and am still working to unravel more clues. Everything that EXO does is connected to their concept and storyline, which has been going on for more than 12 years now, and I literally mean almost everything. However, what makes it even more difficult to understand is that nothing is ever in chronological order and SM has never explained any of the story. They leave it up to fans to figure out what is happening and connect the pieces. Although, "Lotto" and "Monster" are the two EXO MVs that have me the most confused. I'm still struggling to really grasp the full story those MVs are trying to tell. I think part of the reason why I find these two MVs so confusing, is the fact that they depart the most from the linear storyline and the story jumps back and forth between the two MVs so much that it's difficult to put the events in order to really make a clear picture.
