And no, there isn't anything preventing from sending the same artists two years in a row, even if the artist won. In 2011 Germany sent Lena who previously won in 2010 the contest, so unless the rules have changed since then, there should be no problem.

That's just unfair to say. The UMK finalists are much less experienced in frong of big crowds and they need to sing live. They are probably more nervous about how they will succeed in the competition. Interval performers have gotten a lot of recognition and experience after their last UMK. Or they are big names alredy. Especially Käärijä, who went through the ESC performer machine and got a huge experience out of it. Also most interval acts have playback singing like Käärijä and Erika here. Maybe it's because they just launched their new song in here.
