This is a good intro to Park Hyo Shin, the master of ballads. My favorite songs are Wildflower and Home. He reminds me of IU, because every song sounds like it is from a musical. The pianist in the last two MVs is frequent collaborator Jung Jae Il. The live performance with both of them are legendary.

Thank you Ross for sharing this reaction on YT even months later! I am so thrilled every time a reactor finds this this phenomenal of a ballad singer, and fit well now that we have his 25th anniversary in the industry. He has some of the most sad story in it as well, but that is a too long story. Short version; he denied being a typical kpop idol, even though he did some B-boy moves early in the days. Story also says that his company back then didnt evenpay him for concerts- among some, and promotions for his music was very poorly. I am glad that he went the line as a ballad singer, because he is exceptional, yet he also have many R & B and funky songs too! Though if you listen to his earlier tracks, his vocals sounds a bit deeper and different. That is because he went through a surgery, and had to learn how to sing again "from scratch". I guess he have had some classical training, because recent years he has done some phenomenal theathre musicals, opera-like-ish. And yes, he sings as beautifully amazing live at concerts as well, and have done some awesome covers in english!! Absolutely stunning performance. His fanbase is called Soultrees, and we call him Captain. I am proud to be a part of that so kind community!!

You should see his song "Yearning" next. There is a live video with English subs on KZbin. The lyrics are painting a sad story, and Park Hyo Shin conveys the emotions really well! I love how he uses "you, we, us" instead of straight up saying the sex of the other person, it makes it easier for everyone to relate. Also he delivers the vocals in that performance as well

Park Hyo Shin. The voice from God. His tone and control, his range. He writes the lyrics (or cowrites)and the score. He demands perfection from himself, and he loves loves loves his fans. And his Soultrees (fans) love him. Many have followed him since he was 18 and have been thru it all with him. You asked about opera I think, no opera training but Musical Theater.

breath and Beautiful Tomorrow are deom same album, Dreamer. He had a big series of concert's at this time and won Stage of the Year for his Dreamer Tour. No matter how good he is in MV's hes better live. Listen to The Day from Mr Sunshine.

Funny how i knew the artist because EXO Chen did a cover of Breath and EXO Baekhyun likes singing Goodbye when he's doing twitter space/IG live with EXOLs. Such a great vocalist!
