Paridana' is one of the best compositions of Patnam Subramania Iyer; its in Bilahari a janya of 29th mela deerasankarabaranam. It is an audava sampoorna raaga as it has 5 notes in the arohanam and 7 notes in the avarohanam. I am reminded of 'Raravenu Gopala' used to sing always by my sister in our school when she started learning carnatic music then!!! Swaras in Bilahari raaga are Chatushruti Rishabha, Antara Gandhara, Shudha Madhyamamam (only in avarohanam), Panchamam, Chatushruti Dhaivatam and Kakali Nishadam. Occasionally, Kaishiki Nishadam is used as anya swara (alien note). This makes the raga a Bhashanga raga. KVN the erstwhile maestro had presented with a pace as entailed by the composition but did maintain his tone in tact....Good rendition....Pranams to the maestro's soul

I hear praying a of n,s, but rarely; but this is not mentioned any of the theory books on BILAHARI. You can see it clearly in bilahari varnam, in several chittaiswarams, and in this Krithi, in anupallave portion

Does someone know who's playing the violin?

If you listen to the sequence 10:54 to 10:56, the answer is easy. It has to be MS Gopalakrishnan

From he precision cut-bows it looks like the legendary MSG., the violin has grace, gait, and a sound personality. Accompaniment of mathematical precision. Its a good practice to add all musicians names if the info available. Grt upload., thanks to our melodic Samaritans
