The K1600 is incredibly balanced, which makes it incredibly easy to maneuver at slow speeds like through that gas station. Awesome bike!

I have owned two of these bikes, yes the transmission can be klonky, this guy should have kept the gears low and used the incredible torque of the engine. If I were on the same road I would not get above third gear and probably be in second most of the time using engine braking into the corners and power out.

Both are in Austria. I rented the K1600GT at the Highbike Testcenter in Ischgl and from there first went on the Silvretta High Alpine Road: www.motoplaner.de/#v4&47.01186,10.28838,1,0,0;46.96914,10.05739,1,0,0&&0,0 Then I went on the Kaunertal Glacier Road (starting at 9:07 :on the video): www.motoplaner.de/#v4&47.01186,10.28838,1,0,0;47.12355,10.59717,1,0,0;46.86412,10.71321,1,0,0&&0,0

Take a smal route where you can drive slowly then test the bike on that road. I did it also, but the temperatuur was getting higher, till de red light showed. I was dissapointed at this bike. of 26000 euro. It drives very easy, for a heavy bike. Even when you drive slowly in the moutains.
@thestonegateroadrunner73054 жыл бұрын
The suspension is too uncomfortable for that money.
@steviebb91368 жыл бұрын
Is it just me or does this rider seem to do a lot of short shifting, which sounds like a really clunky transmission? Im not being critical of it but Im on the fence about going from HD touring to the K 1600 (notice the oxymoron HD and clunks lol). It just seems awefully prevelant in this video, where other riding tests the shifting is much tighter.
@thestonegateroadrunner73058 жыл бұрын
My mic was in my left side pocket, hence quite close to the gearbox
@user-cx2bk6pm2f8 жыл бұрын
I think it's just you. As the rider mentioned, he's new to the bike and I believe there were some uneccesary shifts, but IMO it's just him getting use to the bike. If you're in the big bike market, get use to the clunk; it's inherent IMO. Big bikes need big beefy gearboxes and there's just no getting around the operation of all that heavy steel. My Goldwing clunked, and that bike is the epitome of smoothness.
@artsbest18 жыл бұрын
He shifted way too much but that's because the bike was new to him. The engine holds itself very well in any gear. I know I own a 2016 k 1600GT. Very much like it.
@migueltapia73027 жыл бұрын
Louie Lamoore- agreed, 4th gear for the most part with no problem without lugging engine would have been fine. He'll regret all that unnecessary shifting later[lots of unnecessary ware on the engine and transmission].
@Baxxton19667 жыл бұрын

Thanks for sharing the experience! This is all on the Silvetta Hochalpenstrasse? How'd you feel about managing the bike in the hairpins - lots of work, not so much, easy-peasy? What do your ride at home? What camera - did you have a remote mic for the motor sound? Most helmet-mount videos are nothing but noise; this one came out great.
@thestonegateroadrunner73057 жыл бұрын
The second part is the Kaunertal Glacier Road, goes up to about 2900 meters, about 40 minutes east of Silvretta. The big ship is surprisingly easy to handle, it's actually pretty sporty, also the suspension. Critical situations can occur when you have to stop on uneven ground and close to 700 pounds want to lean to one side. ;) My private bikes are smaller. A F700GS for commuting and touring and a SV650 for the fun. In general I like lighter bikes. I use a Drift Ghost HD with an external mic. In this video I had the mic in the back in the jacket lining which is good for recording muffler sounds and low wind noise but not optimal because you get lot of static and fabric noises. Meanwhile I mounted the mic inside the helmet, which wind wise is pretty good and also doesn't limit my choice of jacket for the day. The sound is a little more muffled this way. The camera is mounted at the right side of my helmet with Sugru moldable plastic. Works great and is durable. Drift with external mic in the jacket lining: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoK6XqSnnNl0gLs Drift without external mic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2nFn5Jqjr2cisU Drift with mic inside the helmet: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4S5eHiBoLpsnaM

@thestonegateroadrunner73054 жыл бұрын
@@RobbieKiama The K1600 is too heavy for my taste. The S1000XR's engine is way too revvy for touring. It's a race bike with tall suspension. The new F900XR would be my choice if I would be looking for a new do it all bike right now.
