If any of you actually knew anything about the Cheesefrog k20, it handled 30+ psi on the stock k20. It took 41 psi under "unfavorable conditions" to drop a piston. No matter how you look at it, that's pretty impressive.

@spookdaghost I have had both --and understand the addrenalin rush of a high revving 4 cylinder --- both turbo and supercharged .But the older I got the more I have begun to appreciate refinement .Hey I still get a little nostalgia hearing valve float at 11 grand from a 1.6 4 banger -----But it's like I tell my boys a hot body Model looking babe is great for an occasional ride --- but there's no chance they'll ever learn to cook. High maintenance is good to admire but silly to own .

It was a stock sohc d15 engine. I took it out and built an ls/vtec with a b18a block, golden eagle sleeves,84mm bore with a civic type r head...But ive been having thoughts of a mid engine rwd k24 vtec turbo crx... That might be my next project after im done this mustang.

It all depends on how much money you want to put into something, and how streetable you want it to be. A top fuel dragster makes around 8000HP, but is completely unstreetable and costs over $1 million to build. A 1000HP twin turbo V8 can be built for around $5000 for the engine. A 1000HP inline 6 or inline 4 can be built to make the same power for about three times as much, and at a much higher RPM level where they will wear out faster and break more. They'll also probably run on alcohol....

@gokartmaster123 And your absolutely right!,But the simple fact that the stock block handled power up to that point and only blew the head gasket? is phenominal. The K20 Is a force to be rekoned with.

ok thats that guys second K setup...his first was k24 block k20 head and ran it up to 6xxwhp bone stock.... and blew it...then he got this motor just to see how far they can push it....The owner of the car has the money and was building a motor....

@ST165SLEEPER All in the tune. New record now for stock block k20 is 700+whp now. Was done less then a month ago. Had multiple pulls and a couple of passes and been running for almost a year.

the boost cut didn't stop it from it going up on boost,so it over boostest accidently, STOOPID FAST is one of the best tuners outhere in HOUSTON so he knows what the hek his doing.

@Bloodlyne357 Yes very true.. Have you seen a stock sr20det handle 1000hp for 2mins? It blew a head gasket couldnt hold that psi on stock head gasket and the alcohol was eating away at the head gasket to..The sr20 Is a force to be rekoned with.

I don't care how long the head bolts will hold, if you don't upgrade the fuel pump and injectors, you WILL run lean, and you WILL burn a piston or some valves. Also the extra RPMs you will see from increased boost would probably snap a connecting rod.....

He didn't intend to, bro. His wastegate wasn't functioning properly. What happens is the wastegate will wait until a set boost level is reached, and then to keep it there and not go higher, it allows more of the exhaust to escape from the turbo....therefore keeping it from spooling harder. You just witnessed wastegate failure on a big turbo....so it boosted way higher than the driver wanted and more than the engine could handle.

It's a drag car, it wasn't built to take corners. For cornering, you really don't want that much power, as you'll just break the rear tires loose a lot more and go slower.

Honda weighs 2000#. Monte Carlo weighs 3500#. Civic makes 500HP, Monte Carlo makes 1500HP. So the V8 car doesn't quite weight 2X as much as the civic, but makes three times more power and is a better platform for drag racing (RWD). You can also put a V8 into an Opel or something, which weighs as much as a Honda. And the V8 would still be making tons more power with turbos vs. a civic with a turbo.

Hey man, if you put two bigger turbos on a skyline, you'll have some trouble if you don't upgrade the other parts. Stock pistons? You'll burn a hole in one. Stock injectors? You'll run lean and melt your head. Stock cam? You'll run worth crap, and it might just break at the extra RPMs you run with more boost. Head bolts will also come out, your head will come off, valves will melt, and your head gasket will probably go. Without supporting mods, you'll blow your car to shit. Go ahead, try it.

bah thats cheezefrog, he had a 10 second daily driven b series hatch, stock tranny and axles, i think they know what they are doing. that sucks it overboosted. that engine is so sexy.

thats wat happens wen u try to put on so much power on a small engine n wen do run good they only last a couple drag runs and something breaks the guy said around 500hp wit so much boost it myt as well be a jetplane wit a v8 u just trow in a good supercharger and or bolt ons and ur well over 500hp...

Different strokes for different folks------But I like a nice smooth reliable 300 hp out of my Bimmer . Run all day without a sweat at 140 Mph revving 5500 rpm . Just that little extra torque that you have to wring out of a 4 banger isn't worth the aggravation and all the extra parts.

Nobody said bulletproof, I know of multiple tuners running these things up over 500whp quite easily. Think about it these K's EASILY make 220-225 NA, using typical formula's for the B engine you double the HP with 14.5psi of boost, the K is more effecient than the B so you do the math.

Um, it didn't throw a rod. If it had thrown a rod, the guy sure as hell wouldn't have been holding it in his hand. The white smoke means that the head gasket let go. They might have bent a rod, but it's unlikely.

What happened boost spike? Holy cow 42 psi thats a lot. I don't think it was tuned right I didn't hear any kind of fuel cut like the guy said. Of corse I supose thats what could have blown it bc it would have leaned out and at that amount of boost. Nice ride to bad it took a dump.

The K's can, but I doubt it made that power at 15psi. If it did its from a very high reading dyno.

@noseguard53 Once again whats your point? You said only turbo diesels can run 40psi. Who cares if they are stock internal or built. 40psi will crack most cylinders regardless of the piston or rod being used. As far as i know, shep runs a Buscher race motor and they dont resleeve anything

Well it was built right some how the boost was set incorrectly. Doesn't matter what your driving a stang or a gto with that much boost on stock internals would have blown. I think you need to rethink your statement.

I kinda agree and disagree with u. I drive a 05' mustang, 95' Nissan 240sx, and 93' Honda civic. Only the honda has a 4 cyl in it. I bought the honda 2 go 2 and from school.I use the nissan for street/ road race and ill be using the mustang for drag racing one the engine is done. That civic gets 30+ mpg but is so slow I couldnt take it, It probably only made 70hp, its painfully slow. so I did an engine swap on it and got 256whp (with no boost) sometimes u gotta get 2 the train station faster man

@rb26dett32 LOL!!! I run 12's on a F23/h2b hybrid motor with only external boltons and slicks. Still 91 octane, still 30mpg, and zero drive ability problems. I spend less then 4 grand on the motor it self. If I built up the head with a p&p sk2 stg3 valve train and ran 12.5-1 comp, I'd be running low 11, high 10's on E85. All in a stripped EG hatch. Your just madd because the more power you make, the more problems come up. Let me know when ur mani cracks, overboost, or blown motor happens.

the K20A(2) block can handle 32psi on stock internals. Why NOT run 42 psi?

What kind of tuning is this. "Thats probably why it was cutting out and running like crap". Can I get a boost gauge or something. I doubt these guys were trying to blow it up on purpose especially without the owner around. Def someone made an error that was caught way too late.

most people never run that kind of boost, and those who come close are usually building their shit. that "test" was pointless. yay for these guys, going through 3 motors to prove something that only people who are too broke to build their motor are interested in.

It looks to me that they were TRYING to blow that engine apart! NO gas engine is going to stand up to 42psi of boost for long! I wouldent run a stock rsx engine much past 10 psi.... remember its got 11:1 compression ratio. If you want to run 42psi then just get a turbo diesel.

Not necessarily. A 3.5L V8 would have basically no torque at all. Why do you think everyone makes a 5.0L or bigger V8? Jesus, even toyota is making a 5.7L V8. And then they brag about how they're beating other trucks in power when the other trucks have 5.0L engines. Also, that's why Suburbans and large SUV's like that have BIG V8 engines. Like a 1976 Cadillac- 5000#, and an 8.2L V8 engine. Lots of torque to move it, simply from the size of the engine. Honda doesn't know how to go big....
