Keeping it Brief! Update to my first video discussing how well K390 has handled the coastal climate and it's corrosion resistance. Gave it an additional 6 months. Here are the results! Be sure to check out the first video!

Thanks for the overtime updates and legit field report. I am following with interest. Also love my Stretch 2 K390. I carry lots of other things for edc but when it’s time to do a chore or task this is what I grab.

Mine started slightly rusting only after a few days of pocket carry. It would get a little damp from body moisture but that’s about it. I love the edge the blade takes and retention but hate that it starts corroding so quickly. The knife feels like a LW PM2 to me and that’s why I really wanted it. I put a layer of oil on it, stored it away and haven’t carried it in about a year but going to start again. I just have to keep it maintained a lot better than my knives with VG-10, S35VN, M390, D2 and even other Carbon steel blades with a lot less chromium content.

Good video! I am in Florida too, about 10 miles from the coast , 1 mile from the manatee river. My experience so far is that corrosion on cruwear is not really a problem, m4 is a little higher maintenance, d2 is worse than 1095 cause it sets up galvanic cells and pits, s90v is a great saltwater steel( until you lose it wade fishing) . Just got in a rex45 pm2 and a k390 endura no data yet. I do think an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure though. Everybody has some type of car wax in their garage usually, my flavor of the month is megulars tech wax 2.0

I live in New Mexico, and my K390 stretch 2 is grey as hell. I love a good patina though, so I don't oil my carbon steels unless I'm camping.

It doesn't rust that bad. I forgot to get my Endela K390 on my pocket and was on the washing machine for the whole time. Just a surface rust around the zip tie. The goods news is that the lint are fully remove inside 😂

I bet rust eraser would remove those gray spots on the blade 😉

What you can expect with K390 is great edge retention. BUT, if it's your primary knife and you EDC it year-round, after a year the blade will be dark grey and black. Especially if you use it on game and all you EDC where you can't stop, wipe it and oil it. Thats not realistic for a work knife. So light duty pampered use like this video, of course it will be fine, take it to work and into the wild, shell be a black blade pretty quick ........

Never oiled it and definitely didn’t pamper it. Just kept it clean and dry. I’ve been much rougher and less attentive to it the last couple months and it’s patina-ing up quickly. I was really highlighting how well it does if you DO take care of it, even in a very salty humid coastal environment. Surprised me for sure

Patina will protect the steel. The dark grey and black patina isn’t bad for the blade. It’s the orange and red rust as well as pitting you have to watch for.

can forcing a patina help rust prevention on k390 in any appreciable way?
@Blippy Жыл бұрын
Yes, a patina is a sort of coating for the blade and will definitely help with rust. Vinegar works great on k390

10mins in boiling vinegar. Rinse under water + hit it with wire brush or steel wool. Then a dab of oil. Done.

10mins in boiling vinegar for a forced patina = done deal. Food grade super lube or Ballistal soak after.
