Honestly I my favorite videos of yours for the last year or so are the ones where you’re not even talking about knives that much. “Working the homestead” playing with the chickens, the dogs, planting the potatoes, and just hearing about your life/philosophies are much more interesting to me :)

I love your style, man! You may be the only knife reviewer who can say they're gonna talk about the Endela a little more then proceed to harvest and prep/cook potatoes, only to have your followers in the comment section praise you.

Your generation is so reliant on wizz bang technology, and no where is this more evident than in the potatoes I see so called "outdoorsman" carrying. I remember hunting with my grandfather and realizing I'd forgotten to pack our prized heirloom skinning Russet. Grand dad just shook his head and pulled his trusty Yukon Gold from his pocket. We dressed that whole deer with a 3 inch yukon gold. No need for Millenial New Blue varieties or tactical Kennebecs. Just a man, the old ways, some skill, and his potato.
@garethbaus5471

The Yukon Gold is a great potato, it does just about everything a potato needs to do and doesn't break the bank I have large empty pockets so I generally prefer carrying a 5 or 6 inch potato personally but there is nothing wrong with the smaller models.

I remember hunting mammoth with my grandgrandgrandfather and realizing I'd forgotten to pack our cherished 10-foot dinosaur skinning chainsaw. Ggg-dad just shook his head and pulled out his trusty Mordor blade from his skinsnake satchel that Lord Sauron himself gave to him and made quick work of that mega beast. Just a man, a monster, lots of skin and a big pair of balls.

Another awesome video Pete. I need to improve my potato growing skills, and I will use the tips you gave in this video. When you roast smaller potatoes, you can throw them all in one foil pack, this saves a lot of foil and makes it easier to move. You can turn them all at once, and they cook more evenly. the ones in near a hotspot won't dry out and they all will steam each other.

Spyderco is making a ceramic mule from the same company that made the Rhaven knives that did so well on your tests. Can you test it when it comes out? They are in production now in Switzerland.

That is awesome. One thing I love about spyderco is that they are always trying to push the envelope when it comes to materials. Most of their designs are pretty mature. Although I hope they do a better job than Rhaven in terms of sharpening as well as fit and finish. Cool material, but the ones I bought couldn’t shave hair.

Native Chief CF sprint run in S90V is my favorite folding chefs knife that I carry daily and use like crazy. It's great for slicing flank steak across the grain in thin strips and at slicing mushrooms and bell peppers to make the best damn meal from Cowboy Bebop. Spyderco makes outstandingly slicy knives that work great in the kitchen and look classy at work. People that hold my Chief say it's a BFK but I wear extra large gloves and I'm a slim 6 3 so in my hand it just looks normal like a mid sized knife.

G'day Pete, yep grow what you use the most of. Flat circular or cubed chips, (with or without skin), are good in a pan, oven, or on a barby plate, (baking paper keeps em grit free if that bothers you and easy clean up to go with it). Always popular with the kids too. If spyderco ceased flogging "new" models today, would anyone notice or care ? I reckon some would argue they did that years ago. Cheers Duke.

A video on potatoes is what I've missed this morning. We also grow these in our garden! But we have to deal with A LOT of potato beetles. They're swarming gardens in Ukraine. What kind of potato eating pests you have in Australia? P.S. if it's cat-sized potato beetles, please do not respond to this comment at all.

Nerd news - tomatoes & potatoes are from the same family 'Solanaceae' and both contain solanine. This family also includes plants such as nightshade, henbane & tobacco!! Back to the knife - IMHO the comment re. Spyderco iterations & re-releases is spot on. eg. making 'lightweight' versions of their existing knives & releasing them as new & exciting developments. Swapping G10 for FRN is hardly exciting. I love Spydeco but they do need a design innovation kick. Thanks Pete I'm now off to get some hot chips.

Like the movie industry Spyderco is now making most of it's money off of sequels. (At least it seems that way.) I would have gotten the Yojumbo but I heard the handle is weird and the blade alignment is off. I really want the Stretch 2 in K390 but I heard the same about that too. Very discouraging considering the price. It's hard to spend that much when a company like Civivi has figured out how to make a $40 knife that doesn't have the issues a $200 Spyderco knife has.

That's twice I've stumbled across random potato facts this week. 👍 Everyone has an opinion of what knife companies should make, where they should make the knives, and so on. Some people are mad that there aren't more new models, but really, we're spoiled for choice, especially when taking into account the amount of options from the various other makers out there. People begged for a PM2 in every conceivable configuration, and when it happened, there were complaints galore. I wonder if Benchmade gets the same sort of complaints about all the 940 variations they've pumped out over the years. Surely they do. Wanting is completely normal, as is disappointment, but I really don't understand the irritation or anger. Thankfully I'm not a knife maker and none of this has a direct impact on me.
