I paired this video up with another youtube guy and it really made the drums on my '91 K5 go pretty smooth; thanks for publishing these. Its not easy to find quality videos out there of work being done on this make/ mod vehicle. Please don't stop filming everything you do on the K5!

Hey I’m new to this, I’m changing the rear breaks on my 87 k5, how do you get your drum to spin when you adjust it?
@AxlesGarage3 жыл бұрын
With the vehicle jacked up you should be able to turn the drum by hand.

1. Check and make sure there is clearance between the drum and the backing plate. 2. Check and make sure the brake shoes are the proper width. If the shoes are too wide that can happen. Most shoes come in different diameters and widths and can vary year to year. AND they may bolt up even if they are wrong. 3. If you cant see any interference with the backing plate or shoes, have the drums checked t make sure they are round and within tolerance. If they check out ok, maybe think about getting them surfaced. Let me know what you find, maybe take a video... this one has me a bit puzzled.
@BeardsandCars4 жыл бұрын
@@AxlesGarage definitely not touching backing plates..I bought the truck from a 75 year old man and he just replaced pads shoes calipers and drums..I noticed it dragging so I replaced the rest and along with all new hardware and pads...with the same results 😆..its driving me nuts. But I'm thinking drums out of round also at this point....problem is this is the 3rd set🤷♂️I mean i guess I could have got 3 bad sets idk.
@AxlesGarage4 жыл бұрын
I doubt you got 3 bad sets of shoes. You really need to make sure they are the proper shoes and drums for your application. Maybe it's as simple as your getting the wrong part numbers OR maybe the rear end isn't the original and was swapped for something else over the years. I'm intrigued. what year is it?

My 84' K10 Backing Plates Dont Have An Access Port To Adjust The Brakes When The Wheels Are On. Does The K5?
@AxlesGarage4 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I don't remember, and the truck is at the body shop right now. But you can adjust by removing drum, adjust a bit, then put the drum on and spin. Keep adjusting until when you spin, you get a slight drag, then you are good.
