PVEntertainment part of that reason was a huge number of them were captured, and a good amount of the captured rifles were either destroyed or refurbished (the Nation of Yugoslavia sanded off the original markings like the receiver codes, any symbols like the Weimar coat of arms (the eagle) and etched Yugoslavia's crest on it and named it Zastava M 98/48) which makes a pure (by pure I mean original) Karabiner 98K more rare, thus making it more expensive since there are fewer of them compared to the Mosin-Nagant.

Robert East yeah because Germany was being bombed to hell, fighting on multiple fronts far from home, Soviet’s were getting their asses kicked and if it wasn’t for material support from the allies they would’ve lost. Also soviets had winter and WAY more men than the Germans. So it took almost the whole world to take down what was basically only Germany.
@Turgz6 жыл бұрын
Robert East No, they really didn't, Lol. Why do you think Dday happened? It gave the soviets a chance to fight back by forcing the wehrmact to fight on both sides of europe. Otherwise the USSR would have been destroyed there and then.
@Ms.Fowlbwahhh6 жыл бұрын
Wyatt Shelley so you are telling me the Nazi’s would of kept fighting even if the states nuked the living hell out of Germany? Also Pattons 3rd army plowed through everything as long as they were well supplied. Even Hitler praised Patton. The Germans were not gods. One hell of a force? Hell ya.

Devin Stambolziovski Not if germany dropped the bombs first. ;) Just remember how the US got them in the first place. The americans weren't gods either.
@Ms.Fowlbwahhh6 жыл бұрын
Callum Turner no one were gods. In fact technologically, the Germans and the states were pretty much neck and neck until the states hit a brick wall with money. The nazis could afford to keep spending all their money on war and science for war as the civilization they pretty much built from the ground up after ww1(with all that loan money from the states and other countries) didn’t cost them nearly as much to upkeep as the states. Even all the key nazi scientists who later worked for NASA have said many times they asked American scientists for help while working for the Nazi’s back before America entered the war and even sometimes after they entered. The most famous American scientist they sought help from was Robert H. Goddard for his work with rockets.

For those who like stories, here is an interesting one on a batch of K98k's post WW2, and more specifically, one owned by an uncle of mine. I live in South Africa, and this particular rifle had a fascinating journey. Produced in 1939 and issued to the Wermacht, this rifle survived the war and knocked about a bit for 2 years or so before being part of a batch that was sent to the then fledgling state of Israel to help arm her soldiers (Ironic that such an iconic Nazi weapon went on to help Jewish people fight for their nation). During this period the Wermacht markings were burnt out (Although the German eagle is still slightly visible) and it was re-chambered to fire a 7.62 round. After ending its 2nd service life and then some, this rifle then joined a batch that were sold abroad in the 70's, some of which found their way to South Africa (The weapons embargo on Apartheid South Africa only became mandatory in 1977). Although not as fresh looking as the example in this video (77 years of almost continuous use tends to leave a mark), the one my uncle got is still as accurate and robust as it ever was. A testament to the quality of the weapon.

+blueKolibri Well, its like asking "how much does a Ford Mustang cost?". There are so many variables, some very small that can increase the value substantially. A rusted out beater 4 pot fox Mustang would be cheap, but a '69 Boss 429 wouldn't be. It is the same for old guns. It is very hard to provide pricing on these, which is why I usually do not. When I do, people complain that they can't find examples for the price that I quoted.
@MrLoewe238 жыл бұрын
TFB TV yeah, you're right. I'm just looking for this gun.
@Riceball018 жыл бұрын
The price depends on what you're looking for exactly, things like condition and whether or not all of the serial numbers on the various parts match affect the price greatly. A 98k with all matching serials, intact and clean waffenampts, early to mid-war production, and in pristine condition would cost you a pretty penny. On the other hand, a Yugo or Russian arsenal rebuild with no matching serials, missing parts like sight hood, sling, and/or cleaning rod, and in beat up condition can be gotten for relatively cheap. I got one just like that years ago and it only cost me ~$100 or so, it's not super pretty like Alex C's but it's a genuine 98k.

As a kriegsmarine gun it likely saw very little action. Probably was in the hands of some guy guarding a dock.

I never see a ww2 gun like this quality, it shocked me at the very beginning.

Hey Alex, I love the channel and it's actually gotten me into WWII quite a bit. While I realize you've already done one with the Gewehr 98, I would like to see a run and gun with the K98 to understand how the shorter overall length affected the rifle's operation in combat.

I think the rifle is a nice example, but the quote at the end is especially interesting and thought provoking.

what a fantastic rifle, its comical how small of a group they will still shoot. Not to mention German Armor Piercing 8mm was considered the best of ww2 or at least equal to the M2 AP 30-06

I agree with a lot of the other comments. This rifle looks great, the sound of the bolt is wonderful, and the report from those 8mm rounds going off is scary cool. I think "bad ass" is appropriate.
