The steel is not really a "downside". It holds an edge amazingly and is much easier to get razor sharp than stainless. I carry a small perfume sample to hold the oil. The amount of items that can be fit in the new nylon sheath makes this the ultimate all in one knife.

I know this is an old comment but you really dont need to worry about the oil so much. With regular use and occasional oiling (weeks or months in between) 1095 holds up really well unless you soak it in water for days.

Good question. They all fill different needs and styles. That's why there are so many knife companies... everyone has their preference. I know this sounds like a "safe" answer, but I own them all and they are all good for particular situations. So, I do reviews, so you guys can have more info to select the ones that suit your needs and style. Hope this helps. ~David

Hello David, I have seen many reviews on the BK, but I find yours to be fabulous. Very informative and thinking for the user. Thank you for the effort you put into your videos. I can see you must put many hours of research and testing to come up with the information you provide, and the reward is a high quality, highly informational and unbiased video. Cheers. Great knife too.

Hey David. This is crazy, but the very first time I ever got into knives, watching knife videos or asking my dad for a one when I was a senior in high school, your videos were the first ones I ever watched! It was actually the SOG force. Unfortunately, they don’t make it anymore, but I’m glad that your videos were the first ones I ever saw when getting into the knife game!

I bought mine a couple of months ago. Taking it with me hunting next month. Did not like the sheath that came with it. Impossible to withdraw. Replaced it with a leather sheath that has attached a ferrocium rod and a pouch that held a sharpening stone that I replaced with some “Quick Fire.” Now it’s a great Survival as well as bushcraft Knife.

I've tried to break mine several times. I've also tried to break the tip off by pounding it in a log a little ways and hitting the handle with a small log. The only thing I've done is scratch some of the black coating off the blade and there are some scuffs on the handle. That's it. Imo very durable knife.

It's a great knife but the coating had to go on my BK2 and BK11. It's IMO useless as i point out in my review of this knife. All sorts of particles and stuff get stuck in it and is hard to remove. Not good if you want to process food also. I carry and use it a lot and does not find it heavy. I carry it every day at the homestead. Regards, Lars

I own several Beckers and I love them all. I use my BK 9 with a BK 24 on board for large and small tasks. And I use my BK 10 as a one knife solution. I prefer it to the BK 2 because of the drop point and the sheath is Molle compatible

Depends what you want bro! The BG knife is a good first knife with a package including some great survival essentials. If you want a knife you can't kill no matter what... the BK2 is a nice choice. You can go up from there... Buck Hoodlum or Hood Punk, ESSE 4,5,6, Many Tops Knives, Ontario SK5, CRKT stuff, Busse, Habilis... etc... We'll be getting into more and more mid and high end knives soon... Stand by...

Considering everything, price, steel, design, function, size, etc. It is my number one choice for a survival knife/one tool wilderness belt knife. Especially for newer people since the low price and toughness will allow you to learn and try everything without the worry of breaking it.

I'm a BK2 fan (read bias) but I have watched 30+ reviews and this was by far the best yet. For the price it's very hard to beat so I can look past the less than perfect sheath and grivory handles. Changing both to something better still brings you in under the ESEE 5, which is the Becker`s closest competition apples to apples.

I got the BK-7 due to large hands and I thought it would make a better chopper that the BK-2. That knife is super sharp and super durable. Waited till Christmas got mine for cheaper from Amazon due to a sale. I would tell anyone this is the knife you need. Has a polyester sheath with an area for a smaller knife and additional pocket space for anything else.

it's also know as a ricasso or sharpening choil and it helps to prevent recurve from forming after many sharpenings as happens on knives without a ricasso.

Not a good idea since the tang is exposed and it has handle slabs, not a molded handle. But even if it had a molded handle... because the pommel is attach to the blade steel it would not be particularly safe for this task. The Gerber LMF II ASEK is designed for this though... Check it out... Hope this helps. ~David

Thanks for another great review. I saw a review that said the handle was too slick and it looks like it to me but he did replace it easily with a replacement. Due to its size, weight, and a handle I don't necessarily like it won't be my hiking knife but I may still get one for a home utility knife. Tempting.

You should have pointed out that that particular sheath with the glass filled nylon dulls the blade. Kabar released the BK22 which is the same knife but comes with a polyester sheath that doesn't dull the blade.
@SteveAubrey176210 жыл бұрын
Make sure you put lock-tite on the hex screws in the handle and on the sheath. Everyone I have talked to that has one, and my own BK-2 lost a couple screws before realizing they were missing.

In my humble opinion, it is a stab regardless of the steel, it is in line with what it was created for and the 1095 steel is perfect for heavy tasks. Mr. Becker knew what he was doing when he created this bk2 model, without a doubt very versatile, the price is somewhat high.

Great review! I went with the BK7 awhile back and I love it. The BK2 was my first choice but I wanted the extra length the BK7 offered.
@bigghoss76211 жыл бұрын
The Ka-Bar Becker line pretty much has a blade for most every use and they are very well made. The 1095cv steel holds an edge very well and it can rust but doesn't seem super prone to it. I stripped all the coating off my BK9 so now it's just bare steel. I used it to chop a branch in a swimming hole and it got wet. I casually wiped it across my shirt and put it back in the custom kydex sheath I have for it and all I got was some tiny spotting.
@marcusrichardson496311 жыл бұрын
I have taken the coating off and I'm putting a mirror finish on it so in my perspective it looks better also it matches the leather sheath I got from it, but I would like some micarta scales for it but I haven't as I can't find any jeers in Australia plus they are very expensive to ship over here from America.

David, Congrats on your son's wedding. Great comprehensive review of the Becker BK2. You mention it needs minimal care with mineral oil. By minimal do you mean once in a while, after each use, or only if it gets wet? To me, that's the only real drawback. Take care, Larry

Hey Larry... Let common sense dictate... because of the Chromium... it does have some stain resistance... but I just wipe the blade with Mineral Oil and leave it... with use when it's not raining, I don't do anything... you can just treat it like any other knife... in time with a good bit of use the edge will form a natural petina (I think that's how you spell it)... from the acids and oils... this is a natural protective coating... of course when you sharpen the petina needs to rebuild.

I used an HK conspiracy fixed blade tanto on my last camping trip. Used it to split wood, make shavings. It's a good knife. Would like to Try this one out. Regardless, I carry pocket knife as edc. This looks like a good camping/bush craft knife. Looks like it can take a decent amount of beating. In the end, that's really what I need. A knife that can take a beating and get an edge back on it easy.
