I purchased one of these fine knives some 12 years ago, all black model. It came with a handsome black leather sheath but I also managed to get hold of a kydex made one also from KA-BAR. Along with a wooden hilted Puma White Hunter which I have owned for 42 years, it is my favorite knife.

Well done HT. Really enjoyed this. Fished my K-"bear" out of my go bag and had to visit with it for a while after watching this. Thanks.

my first camping fixed blade knife, was the one with the nut type pommel that screwed onto the tang, about 1970 when I went on my first cub camp, my dad bought it for me from an army surplus store, still prefer a bigger knife for bushcrafting

I have a well-used Ka-Bar that's stamped USMC and a USMC stamped sheath. When I first bought it, I noticed that there was still some sand in the scabbard. My immediate thought was, 'If only this knife could talk'...it's easy to imagine the sand was from the Da Nang SVN area...

Very nice video. I have a Ka-bar, but the sheeth went missing. The Ontario 3S bayonet sheeth fits too, with the detent spring inside it may work even better. Very good knife, well disigned. Thanks HT

i had a few of these k bar survival knifes over the years and the okc pilot survival knifes but they really can't hold up to hard use i bent so many of them with there thin tangs chopping wood and splitting wood with them its why i stop buying them and went to using condor or full tang buck 115 fixed blades over the years over these military models but i will say the k bars hold up better then the okc versions of this design but even then i had k bar bend and break on me as well but i will say this the only okc knife i have owned that was any good for hard use was the old hickory butcher knife iv had that thing for 20 years it chops good and split wood like a tank with no issue and its a great all around camp knife all tho when you get the okc old hickory knife you have to mod it a bit like popping the handle scales off of it and epoxying them back on it but once you do its the best budget survival knife i ever used and it fits good in my old k bar sheath great video i like this knife but i had a few bad experiences with a few of the varies milsurp versions of these knives over the years great video

Your Ontario version is very nice, obviously, but I think the original Ka-bar is still the fighting knife to buy. They make a Marine Corps version and a U.S. Navy version too. Still the best in my opinion. I also have their BK-9 fighting knife as a t is bigger and a more versatile survival knife. I have the ka-bar Marine Corpe knife for sentimental reasons.

Not during WWII. They made two prototypes but were never awarded a government contract. The "Case" knife you see today is actually made by Ontario for Case.

This knife has one purpose only: ...to kill humans. The design is perfect to do that. It slices and stabs. The small tang a lot of people consider a design fault.... Well, it's not a design fault at all, the small tang gives the blade a lot more swing and makes the overal weight leighter. Therefore you can draw and slice this knife very fast. The blade is also made thin on purpose to penetrate a body with ease. Bushcrafters do not understand this design. A Ka-Bar 1217 is in fact a very dangerous weapon. You can have a bushcraft knife of 600 g, but I will draw my 1217 of 300 g much faster.

It's very good fighting knife. But is not great that all for bushcraft o survilval situations. Rat tails can be broken cuting hards pieces of wood or bones. Full tang designs are beter options. In ww2 germans has better quality knifes. Thanks for the video.
