You are aware that a sighting compass can be used as a baseplate model, but a baseplate cannot be used as a sighting compass. It is advisable to purchase the sighting model, which incurs a one-time purchase fee, as it offers superior accuracy during navigation. This approach makes logical sense in contrast to what the video is attempting to convey.

I was told 6 blasts in 1 minute if you are in distress and in very poor visibility, then wait for another minute before blowing again, and any rescuers that heard it would blow 3 times in response. However, I was not told the frequency of the blasts, is it 6 times in quick succession, or 1 every 10 seconds for the whole minute? it seems to be a bit ambiguous.

All nice and good, but who hikes this way? 99% of the time I hike on paths. And if I would like to go a straight line, it would be impractical (and in the mountains downright dangerous) due to impassable terrain (and much slower). Furthermore 90% I hike in woods so I could not even get my position with triangulating. It's a nice thing to know how to take and follow a bearing but I think it's a quite useless skill in typical western european cultural landscape. In the tundra or the desert it's surely another story. A more practical feature is to learn how to really interpret a map, and a compass is then still useful to orient the map.

Adjusting for declination is important because it ensures accurate navigation when using a compass. Magnetic declination is the angle difference between magnetic north (the direction a compass needle points) and true north (the geographic North Pole). This angle varies depending on your location on Earth and changes over time due to shifts in the Earth's magnetic field. Here’s why it matters: Accurate Bearings: If you don't adjust for declination, your compass readings will be off. This can lead you to the wrong location, especially over long distances or in situations where precise navigation is critical, such as hiking, boating, or orienteering. Consistent Mapping: Maps are typically oriented to true north, not magnetic north. When plotting a course or transferring a compass bearing to a map, failing to account for declination will introduce errors. Safety: In wilderness navigation or emergency situations, incorrect bearings can lead to getting lost, which can have serious consequences. Regional Variations: Declination isn't a fixed value. It varies by geographic location and must be checked and adjusted for the specific area where you are navigating.

All excellent points leading inevitably to the question: Where do they get the idiots who design these things? One would think that they would employ people who actually use the devices they design and, better yet, that they would field test the device design changes before incorporating them.

There should be a section: If we are in a full out war with Russia and you hear the air raid sirens and do not wish to be a survivor in a nuclear winter, walk out side to an open area and hug your family. On baby boomers comment, at least we knew the real risk of nuclear war and took steps to avoid it. Your generation think is survivable or even winnable. That’s why the West isn’t even talking to Russia. So bay boomers are stupid I don’t disagree with some of them but we stayed away from nuclear conflict, let’s now see how your generation handles it.

Kuffiyeh, not Shemagh. Terrible pronunciation of the name. Why do brits go out of their way to butcher other people's cultures? As if causing the problems in these countries wasn't bad enough. It's pronounced 'shuh-maa'. Just as the Irish surname, 'Gallagher' is pronounced 'gal-lah-er'. FFS

All the other errors are random left and right but declination is a one direction error so the other errors don’t cancel it. Just remember WAvES 🌊 (West Add vs East Subtract) when going from Map to Compass (walking bearing). Reverse Compass to Map (triangulation).
