T Coronae Borealis (T CrB) is a binary star system that undergoes periodic nova explosions. These outbursts are caused by the transfer of hydrogen from a red giant companion star to a white dwarf in the system. The hydrogen builds up on the surface of the white dwarf until it reaches a critical mass, triggering a thermonuclear explosion that blasts the excess material into space. T CrB is expected to erupt again sometime between now and September 2024, making it a rare opportunity for skywatchers to witness this celestial phenomenon.
