I have found something not mentioned here that has finally solved my wobble. The shiny silver head bolt which the stem sits on has a small hex bolt on the front of it. You can just see it when your stem is folded down. This nut is the key to fixing the wobble. Just screw it out a bit and then put the stem and clamps back. It will improve once you turn it out sufficiently. Just trial and error until you get it right. I found that after a few rides the bolt would creep back in and the wobble would come again. I didn't think loctite would last so I found a small washer and put that inbetween. It can't move now and I am finally free of the dreaded wobble!

Locite 648. That's what it's for, any engineer will tell you this, you can remove the bearing at a later date when it fails and scrape it away then reapply with a new bearing.

Thanks for the tips I will definitely be taking it apart right now and trying that thanks 💯

Go to an engineering shop and ask for shim steel, it's available in different sizes and will last a lot longer than plastic film, I would say that this could be classed as a warranty claim because clearly the bearing housing has been machined to the wrong size, the bearing should be a press fit.

How to fix or prevent famous Mantis stem breaking off. A guide on that part would be amazing. Also a waterproofing video.
@ralfhalbknapp11044 жыл бұрын
I dont want to be too bold with my claims but this is already a fix for the bolt breaking. As soon as the bottom of the folding piece cannot move anymore inside the tube (what I achived with wrapping in cling foil to fill the gap) there will be no more Stress on the bolt and it will not break. There is an aftermarket folding piece that is thicker and longer but it essentially achives the same thing.
@TheChazas4 жыл бұрын
@@ralfhalbknapp1104 Definitely, you are absolutely right, I will do the same. Yet a lot of say main bolt requires a sleeve so that main bolt dont have any movement inside. Wonder if newer models updated to stronger bolts or improved the design of it a big. Also have you waterproofed your Mantis?
@ralfhalbknapp11044 жыл бұрын
@@TheChazas my Model (that Was still Version 1) already has the stronger bolt. However a tighter sitting folding piece is in the newest Versions of Mantis I think and this will help.

These sleeve pieces will NOT help. Please please dont use a sleeve. This will still cause the bolt to break between the folding Part and the sleeve.

This is a problem on many of these scooters after time just with the power these things have the rider puts alot of force on those handlebars. All that force is focused on that stem and bearing area. It's quite possible over time the bearing seat can become ovalised thus creating slop in that area. That whole area needs to be engineered alot stranger

What you could do us use 0.5 tick nickle strips and spot weld 4x pieces in a cross like pattern and that should evenly make the bearing fit
@ralfhalbknapp11044 жыл бұрын
Honestly it still runs on the thick plastic bag foil centered Version and still works. I dont exactly know however what you mean that i should do with the nickel strips (given that i had them and a spot welder).
@LewyLewy20084 жыл бұрын
Since the problem on yours is being caused by parts that don’t fit, was it wobbly from day one? I would think this collar being too small would be be the cause for those who noticed wobbling at the beginning rather than after wear and tear?
@ralfhalbknapp11044 жыл бұрын
It was less wobble from the beginning but there was a less wobble and got more. Actually i had many different wobbly parts adding up, this is why i made the video. There is the loose hinge and bolt, the loose bearings and loose loose screws connecting the steering part to the lower deck.

@ralfhalbknapp11044 жыл бұрын

There is a replacement for bolt sleeve. Do you think it will work?
@ralfhalbknapp11044 жыл бұрын
Michael Sha has a folding piece that extends longer to the bottom and is a little thicker, this will work to eliminate the play and prevent the bolt from wearing and breaking. I think new Stock Mantis have also a solution in play. An addon plastic bolt sleeve that is also sold will NOT work as the bolt would still break between the bottom of the folding piece and the sleeve, so there would be no improvement.

I just bought this model and i would like to know wich number do you have on parameter P2 (motor magnetic pole setting). Thanks
@ralfhalbknapp11044 жыл бұрын
I can tell you but it would not help you as the correct number is dependent on the motor used. P2 is used by the controller to measure the speed and display it correctly on the throttle so if you measure with gps and set P2 to the best possible number where gps and display speed align best you are fine

How did you remove the folding lower bracket once you got the bolt out? Sheer force? I’m close to blowing my back out here
@ralfhalbknapp11044 жыл бұрын
Not much force needed on mine, it slipped out easily (which is actually bad, it should be hard to pull out). If it sticks there really bad i would question your intention why you want to remove it. If you have a new and fixed version the folding lower bracket has a tight fit and stays in place. If you really want to pull it out i recommend to re-attach the handlebar stem and use it as a lever (fold a bit, put something like a wooden block under the half folded stem and then fold the handlebar stem even more - therefore pulling the folding piece out. But again - only do that if you need to!
