the thing you removed and painted is the stator with it´s coils and slotted layered, the magnets are fixed within in the hub. The coil windings are already insulated with a thin layer of laquer, otherwise they would just short out. The rust means water got it, through the bearing and/ or the Housing cover. You say it grinds, I guess the bearings have gone bad and have to much play which causes the stator to rub on the magnets or housing. Search for replacement bearings, either check if the installed bearings have markings for the size on it or search the internet for bearings for your model. Get some sealed industrial ones for replacement and watch tutorials how to install the bearings properly without damaging them in the process.

Thanks for that info. I thought it was bearings at first as well. But then I took it apart an noticed all the loose Debris inside the hub that slide out from between the magnets and then damaged the internals parts. But hell, maybe I'll try that. Have you had this problem? That's why you know?

Add gasket silicone before clamping it together and extra grease near the bearings (should have some rubber seal, replacing this should get results as well)

It's great that you have dismantled a motor and it gives me an idea of what I might encounter when or if I take mine apart, but please, find out the names of the parts of the motor, the axle, stator, windings, housing etc. it would make it so much better. Also always use the right sized tools for any sort of mechanical work, if you don't you are just asking for trouble. Yes, the axle nuts on the Mantis motors are a really oddball size.

The same way. Just put it against the floor and push down on it. Make sure you take the little gasket off first and watch out for the wire. Thank you for the support. I was looking for a video like this too. I'm not a professional just want to spread information.

what kind of paint did u use? did u seal the house with silikon?

Insulating Varnish, 15 1/4 fl oz Net Weight, Red, 2,600 vpm Dielectric Strength, no need for silicone
