There is one important thing in this adjustment. Need to be careful to not unscrew it to much. It is only around 1cm maxium how deep you can screw in. So every turn is few minimeters less. If you unsrew to the end screw will not hold and this could be a bit dangerous if it happen on the ride. I know because I experience this myself. Finally I decided to.make it quite hard because I prefer Dualtron type of suspension and I ride fast.

Krystian Wlodarczak Kristinan did you make any upgrades to the suspension? What is your weight? I am also in Poland, 85kg and I hit the back mud guard on smaller bumps. Any source for the stronger elastomers or springs in Poland?

Thanks for putting up the video, I did this and the ride quality is much better, I'm not sure how much I wound the screw out, 6-8 half turns I think. It's a good idea to put some grease or spray lube on the pin while it's out, mine was as dry as a bone.

Nooooo! Don't do this. Nobody do this. This is dangerous advice that will mess up your scooter and possibly cause the failure of your suspension. This suspension in NOT adjustable. This bolt is meant to be screwed all the way in. It holds the suspension together. Loosening it will only make the spring feel softer for those people that are light enough that the spring does not compress at all when they stand on the scooter. If you stand on your scooter and the spring compress even a little bit, this will make NO DIFFERENCE when you're actually riding it. If you want softer or harder suspension, go on Aliexpress and buy softer or harder springs and when you install your new springs, turn that bolt all the way in!
@happyhusband312
@happyhusband312 Жыл бұрын
You're right. The "partial unscrew" method is not good and i've stripped another scooter suspension this way already while others had accidents. It is dangerous. If it's believed the spring is compressed by that bolt without load, I'd rather use a longer bolt, screwed in fully. But all this changed meanwhile with model 2022, the screw is no longer M5 (Hex 4), but M6x65 (Hex 5) if i'm correct. So if there's 5mm extra space while bolt not hitting the damper, and the spring would not move when installed, then the upgrade to e.g. M6x70 makes sense. Not sure if front and rear springs still differ in size. Another potentional upgrade, the spring change, is possible, but only for lighter people as the red one is the toughest version (24% compression) and designated for 85-100kg.
@happyhusband312

this is what i've found. Mantis v1 suspension bolts: - M5x60 mm rear, - M5x55 mm front, - M10x80 mm steering screw. Mantis v2: - M5x60 mm rear, - M6x65 mm front, - barrel in suspension C - M10x80 mm steering screw. Mantis v3: - M6x65 mm rear, - M6x65 mm front, - barrel in suspension C - M10x80 mm steering screw. if the spring length didn't change in the meantime (front: 35x60, rear: 35x65), then maybe the longer bolt won't even fit the newest model as Kaabo did the job already. The question is why the result is progressively stiffer suspension. Was the travel increased but PU hardened?

Best thing to do with the mantis is to replace the rubber bushes inside the springs with harder or softer ones depending on your preference. I like mine hard

ralf halbknapp I even saw your comment there, please put a video how to install it or maybe there is one already recorded? I will email them to ask for this :) with my 80kg it seems I’m too heavy, maybe I am 85 kg now after covid lockdown. I checked e watts fr website and I am surprised they don’t have mudguard extension for Mantis, it is a must have .. so I guess I have to get it on Ali or bring it to a local e bike service. Maybe that rubber rod is also available on Ali
@sq7ikr
@sq7ikr 4 жыл бұрын
ralf halbknapp ok it’a available again on e watts! I am going to get 2, one for the front and one for the back. You also commented on e watts website that you had to cut the 60mm to 50mm for the back suspension and you also bought longer screws M5 65mm instead of 60mm. I will do the same. Did you replace front and back to 50 mm elastomer and 65mm M5 screws or only back suspension? How is it performing after some time ?

Hi Ralf. How are you? This is not a suspension adjustment related question. Just wondering if you can advice on switching or exchanging the current/stock handlebar with a longer one. Let me know what you think of this. Thanks.
@TheLondonCyclist
@TheLondonCyclist 5 жыл бұрын
From the logical point of view, if you can lock the longer pole (handle bar) into position, then I don't see why not. Were you thinking of welding an extension to the current pole?
@ralfhalbknapp1104

This should be no problem as long as you use the 22mm (7/8") Handlebars. These are typically used on BMX bikes and some motorcycles.

Hi, newer versions should come "somehow" waterprooved. Kaabo recommends to not ride in the rain and by the way the scooter is designed i would also not recommend to do it if you can avoid it (if you get caught in the rain you have no option anyway).

If you unscrew it, the bolt head will hit axis when spring will compress.
@onecookieboy
@onecookieboy 2 жыл бұрын
So, I did this modification and have been thinking. While this does soften the spring by decreasing the preload on it, I don't think it's a particularly good solution as it puts extra tension on the swing arm/control arm which might lead to early failure and extra load on the bushings and spring retaining bolt. A better solution would be a weaker spring, and while I understand that is not easy to achieve, I wonder if there is anything available?. Another option would be to take the spring out and machine/grind it down, I don't mean shorten it, I am meaning reducing the size of the coils. Any thoughts?.
@doctornovocaine5156
@doctornovocaine5156 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure if I'd go to that extent, a!s it would create weaker areas in the coil where it's been ground more than others, and lead to potential failure of the coil. Unless one can accurately grind the entire coil equally in every spot which in my opinion would be virtually impossible, on top of which, the heat created while grinding will impact structural integrity of the metal itself. Your best bet would be to contact a local machine shop, any one of which can create a new coil to your particular specs. Or rummage thru a salvage yard where one can find all sorts of useful repurposed items. They are gold mines for engineers such as myself and a source of endless possibilities .
@onecookieboy
@onecookieboy 2 жыл бұрын
@@doctornovocaine5156 I was thinking of mounting the spring in a drill and using an internal sander/grinder on the inner surface of the spring while it rotated slowly to reduce the diameter of the coils. A lathe would be even better, but unfortunately I don't have one of those. I doubt that heat would be an issue
@doctornovocaine5156
@doctornovocaine5156 2 жыл бұрын
@@onecookieboyI also didn't consider how much you are wanting to remove and the actual composition of the metal, that too will be a factor. Because for any material to start stripping away at the metal you would have to have either significant pressure with something coarse or sharp enough to strip metal at slow speeds or a material less coarse or sharp at higher speeds thus causing the heat issue. So again my only fear would be if your planning to remove a significant amount of the coil, would be the heat. Although if only for a short duration; depending on the material, wouldn't be that huge of an issue.
@onecookieboy
@onecookieboy 2 жыл бұрын
@@doctornovocaine5156 I am pretty confident that a sanding drum on a dremel type of grinder would be controllable enough to remove material evenly without too much heat buildup. It is just spring steel afterall, not that special and pretty hard to mess up, it would have to be heated to cherry red and quenched to effect the springiness of it.
@happyhusband312
@happyhusband312 Жыл бұрын
you can choose from 5 Mantis springs on Ali, 5 softness styles. but then you will hear more bottoming sound obviously. heavy people perhaps shouldn't change. the best would be a whole different suspension on this scooter or upgrade to King. it's too far from Vsett luxury suspension, very stiff!

@ralfhalbknapp1104 4 жыл бұрын
I guess they changed the new mantis suspension in a way that there is now more preload then on my unit (meaning it is less relaxed if unscrewed and harder to put on). Maybe if you want it softer overall try cut a bit from the inner PU Rod to make it shorter and more relaxed (only a cm or so).

Okay, don't do this, it's going to lead to premature failure of the suspension. I took the suspension apart on my 2022 mantis 10 base after doing what this guy says in the video and I was horrified to see that the bolt going through the centre of the spring was holding on by about 1/2 of its threads and it had clearly damaged the internal threads of the upper spring mount. This is not a fix, it's a bodge job.
