Kathiruntha Kangal is a 1962 Indian Tamil-language film directed by T. Prakash Rao. The film stars Savitri and Gemini Ganesan, the former in dual roles. It is a remake of the 1960 Bengali film Smrithi Tukku Thak, which itself was adapted from the Bengali play of the same name by Malabika Roy. The film revolves around twin sisters who get separated at birth due to circumstances, and cross paths as adults.
Plot Summary
Twin sisters Shenbagam and Lalitha get separated at birth due to poverty. Lalitha is brought up by a rich person, Panchanatha Mudaliar, and the other twin Shenbagam by their mother Kamakshi. Krishna, a doctor, comes to treat the ailing Kamakshi, and Shenbagam falls in love with him, which he is not aware of. On her deathbed, Kamakshi reveals to Shenbagam the other twin's existence. Shenbagam goes in search of Lalitha and eventually both end up travelling on the same train. An accident occurs, causing Lalitha to lose her memory and she is presumed dead. Things further escalate when Krishnan marries Shenbagam, under the assumption that she is Lalitha. Their child is born, and the real Lalitha shows up. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

நடிகையர் திலகம் என்ற பட்டத்திற்கு நூறு சதவிகிதம் பொருத்தமானவர் மறைந்த சகோதரி சாவித்திரி. இறைவனின் தனித்துவம் நிறைந்த படைப்புகளில் முதன்மையானவர் என்றால் மிகவும் பொருந்தும். சாவித்திரியின் நடிப்பின் முகபாவனை எந்த பெண்ணுக்கும் வராது.. இரு வேடங்களில் மிகவும் சிறப்பாக நடித்துள்ளார். எத்தனை முறை பார்த்தாலும் சலிப்பு வராது!!! சிறந்த திரைப்படம் அருமையான பாடல்கள்

Excellent movie. Superb music. Scintillating performance by Savithri amma. Dubbed in Telugu and after decades later remade in Telugu with Sujatha. A totally unexpected climax / ending. Sirkazhi song Odam is mesmerising and my all time favourite what an excellent blend of lyrics music and rendition

If savithri had taken the same decision as shown ( in the last scene of this reel life)in her real life her fate would have been different. Anyway everything is preordained as per the will of ALL PERVADING ALMIGHTY.
