KABUTACK (Episode 1)

Torahiko Koenji is a genius scientist but a little bit eccentric. He digs out the ancient writings named “The Galaxy” from the oldest layer of the earth. He makes out the writings and realizes that there are 13 hidden treasures called “Star Pieces” somewhere on this planet. If he obtain them, he can have his any wish granted. He makes search robots, put them in sleep-learning capsules, hides them here and there, and conceals himself too.
However, three search robots namely, Cobrander, Ganirun and Spidon, wake up when their sleep-learning is still imperfect. Since they don’t learn the most important part, that is to say, “they must work for human beings”, they become selfish and start to commit all sorts of crimes.
On the other hand, three search robots namely, Kabutack, Tentoriina and Kuwajiiro, finish the whole course of sleep-learning and start to cooperate with Yuzuru, Torahiko’s grandson, Sayuri and Kuranosuke, his friends, in search of “Star Pieces”.
Will they really be able to overcome interferences of Cobrander’s group, Obtain “Star Pieces” and make their wishes fulfilled?

This was one of my first Tokusatsu series. When I was 7-8 years old my dad bought a Chinese dubbed DVD version (along with Chinese dubbed Ultraman and Doraemon) of this show for me and my brother as a gift when he was in China visiting relatives.

The Metal Heroes tried to make a comeback in some of the Super Sentai shows and the crossover movies that featured Super Sentai, the Kamen Riders and even the Metal Heroes...but the question is "can they make a comeback?" To be honest I wish but I find it had for that to happen nowadays.

@@brandonvortex995 Well it's worth considering that the Kamen Rider series was effectively dead at this time. In fact the Metal Heroes came about largely due to the shortcomings of Kamen Rider. Toei created Space Sheriff Gavan when Kamen Rider was slumping in ratings, and that took off and became what we now know as the Metal Heroes series. For all of the 80s and 90s, all Kamen Rider could muster were a couple ill-received TV shows and some questionable movies. Meanwhile Metal Heroes were going strong, but they started to decline as the tastes of kids changed, and Kabutack and Robotack were desperate attempts to rekindle an audience but to no avail. Around the same time, toei was planning the revival of the Kamen Rider series in the year 2000 and a lot of creative staff wound up working on that eventually, and it incorporated some of the better ideas of Metal Heroes, so Heisei KR can be seen as the spiritual successor to Metal Heroes.

Considering it's made for kids, that's perfect! Competition is healthier for children than fighting. Most children's tokusatsu are geared towards telling stories about overcoming great odds with teamwork. Personally, this is what I love about toku shows. They teach kids positive lessons. Then there's the riders, which carries the message of the value of trusting people and staying on top of your goals, even when others think you're insane for doing so (also it's just really good young adult/working adult drama). That's my take on it.
