Thanks for highlighting that Lisa Eldridge is putting out innovative. Other brands just release new products, but they aren't innovative. Lisa strives to improve products, not just releasing new colours. She is getting ready to release a complexion corrector (or concealer) in a pencil form. I am excited for that release.

I will admit--I went on a spending spree for Black Friday. But! I had a purpose--I wanted to find a new skin tint/foundation. My tried and true NARS light reflecting foundation wasn't looking great on me. I bought the Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Tint, Lisa Eldridge Skin Tint, Surratt Dew Drop foundation, a plethora of drugstore foundations/tints, Ciele skin tint, Fenty Soft Lit Foundation and the Vieve Complexion Balm. By far, by FAR my favorite--the Vieve Complexion Balm. So much so, I am contemplating returning everything else. The Vieve is gorgeous. It is spectacular. And I am 48--I am not getting any younger or less lined. The Vieve is everything. And would not have known it existed until you showcased it on your channel. So, thank you! Happy New Year!!!

@ the color fill series was super interesting! Maybe seeing more demos of different color goals - getting peach to show peachier or baby pink pinker. Or even how to eyelid color correct to get eyeshadows to pop more (eg using lavender base to minimize yellow lid color). Cuz you’re right - noooobody talks about this concept!
@niki20072Күн бұрын
@@kackie Agree 100% on more color theory and the color fill concept! I think I must have an odd skin tone that I still am struggling to identify that causes lip colors and blushes to appear much different on my skin than the product appears in the pan/tube/packaging. This causes wasted money spent on colors that just don't work and I feel that understanding the color fill idea or sort of layering of colors would be immensely helpful to me. The perfect red lip video was life changing for me by the way even though I am still searching for the perfect match to the lipstick color that I came up with (mostly because I'm trying to stick to drugstore lipsticks to find it.)

Absolutely agree on Lisa Eldridge. She released my favorite products of the year: the kitten flick liquid eyeliner (so easy to use); the skin tint (best complexion match I have ever had and love the finish and coverage level); and the gorgeous, refillable lipstick case. I understand folks disappointment that LE only offered 8 colors with the initial release BUT that tight palette meant that I have found my holy grail lipstick color - Medici. I would never have ordered it if there had been a wider array of colors that included some lighter, clearer colors. Medici turned out the be the "nude" that I have needed for my well pigmented lips all along. Who knew?

I got myself the Lisa Eldridge lipstick for my birthday because I was in love and also because it feels bigger than luxury to me, it feels like a moment in beauty and sustainability. The category that came to mind for me was “Immortal product”. There’s a Korean music show called “Immortal Song” where current performers cover massive hits from past decades, the idea being ‘this was great and nostalgic but actually it’s still amazing’. When a classic product either comes back into vitality like Clinic black honey, or gets a makeover and hits it big like those Revlon glossy lipsticks, I just find it super satisfying.

Great well considered video! Thanks. One tiny point of contention-Lisa Eldridge Rouge Experience in Medici is the best “my lips but better” shade I’ve ever found. And I think other light olive people have felt the same. Every “nude” I’ve ever tried goes pink or orange. I think those lip colors were nuanced and informed, but so subtly they weren’t obviously so. Just quietly effing awesome. She’s also one of only a few brands(maybe About Face too) really delivering on the olive undertones, not just talking about it (Mob Beauty. Ahem. They made straight up orange olive shades that somehow miraculously looked olive on the website.)T5 skin tint is almost too green and too gray for me; never been so happy to have something not quite work for me. I mix it with T2 and it’s perfect. Only time I haven’t resented having to buy two shades. Oh dear, that was almost a rant. I get excited about this stuff. 🥴😬

the Mob Beauty olive shades are completely baffling, but I will say that for yellow-leaning olives the golden shades are great! About Face F2O matches me well, but I like Mob Beauty in G20 better.

I think American /British brands are not up on innovation because K- and now C-beauty have been leading the charge with unique formulas, textures, and colors for the past few years at price points that are so much more accessible. Of course the downside is options for a wide range of skin tones but it seems a few brands are perking up to that realizing they can capitalize globally. I know it’s not your thing but I’d love to see you try some of the Asian beauty big hits from the past year!
@culturecrashAL3 күн бұрын
It's WILD to me how browsing YesStyle and Stylevana show so many product formulations that US/Euro brands don't have in their lineups! But yeah, the downside is the extreeeemely limited shade range for most of them. Not just the complexion products -- eyeshadows are almost all pastels and light neutrals, lip products are almost all light and mid-range neutrals/mlbb shades. I've only seen a few outlier brands like GirlCult (and I guess Kaleidos counts?) doing dramatic weird or dark lip colors or bold/dark/bright eyeshadows. Even brands with over-the-top awesome packaging (Zeesea, Florasis) are pretty tame/samey in their product hues.
@kkmarzipan3 күн бұрын
Totally. I am very fair but warm/neutral and many of the K-Beauty tones are too light/strange for me (and I have yet to try a base product because the limited pics on YesStyle confuse me-I think one of the Welsh siblings wears a really light tone that I thought would match me in one of the cushions!) There’s definitely an “ethereal fairy” vibe to some of it that is not a look I can pull off. It will be interesting to see how these brands view themselves moving forward and how they place in the market. A Korean/East Asian only audience is still big but limited compared to catering launches for a full on international market. I do see a lot more brands opening their own US websites outside of the Yesstyles and Stylevanas so they’re definitely getting curious on the possibility. For now I kind of pick and choose what works and I admit I have the skin tone privilege of even being able to do so.
@kkmarzipan3 күн бұрын
Also, that said I think TirTir was smart to go for it and release three cushion types in a fuller range of tones, and send out PR of all/most of the colors to show that they’re taking a risk to move KBeauty forward on complexion colors. I think if this causes them to have high sales it will make other brands reconsider their offerings which I hope is the case!
@culturecrashAL3 күн бұрын
@@kkmarzipan Oh for sure -- I think they got a good bit of initial press/hype on that foundation from flooding the influencer space (and then apparently a lot of people do really love it! I can't use it, alas -- cyclomethicone is a guaranteed cystic zitfest for me). But I think they got the BIG hype with the hugely expanded shade range. US/Euro consumers have come to expect that, but it's def new in the K/J-beauty space. I hope to see more Asian brands follow suit, and also hope it trickles over into eye and lip color offerings too!

Best "just gets me ready for my day quickly and without too much crying" goes to the Fenty stick foundation, the Gucci bronzer in 01 (for basically all the face colour when I cba), the Gucci highlight in 04 for face/eyelids/inner eye corners, Tilbury setting mist, Lisa Eldridge's mascara, Hourglass's microbrow and those chubby Ilia lip liners and maybe a Dior glow balm whatsit. Oh, also the Jouer concealers and either Jane Iredale or MAC Studio Fix powder for blemishes and discolouration, which takes probably 60% of my makeup application time 😑

I believe DM is still hitting it out of the park when it comes to creating products that are *User Friendly*. Do I love all her color choices or need spangle and duo chrome in everything? No, but _sweet fancy Moses_ I *live for* the portability and accessibility built into her last products: Ground Work, that last Transformer-esque Light Works palette, the complexion balms... Sorry to sound like a Stan but DM is still keeping me interested in what she is doing with makeup.

I, also, have noticed that brands are putting out products just to release things instead of releasing things because they fill a gap in the market (I'm thinking about all the Makeup by Mario versions of a bronzer). I would love to see less releases and brands releasing only when they have something truly unique or improved. I also wonder how much better a blush could possibly be. At what point do we reach maximum lipstick quality?

New Hot Girl who just took off her Glasses goes YSL. They have been around for a while. I was looking up at why in the last year they have been releasing bangers and it looks like in the last 4 years they made some good hiring decisions, and they also dumped a lot of money into their beauty brand.

I’ve been contemplating getting a new palette bc I’ve been DYING for a cool toned neutral palette. I’m in between huda icy nude and nd I need a nude. I like the color story of icy nude better but I don’t like the huda palette I have that much the colors are a little patchy. Curious what you think.
