One trend that I'd like to see die is high-end skincare brands marketing to tweens and teens. 10-year-olds do not need to be buying up the Drunk Elephant section of Sephora! It's one thing if a kid with acne or eczema uses skincare products which help treat that condition, or for teens to wear a daily sunscreen and an affordable moisturizer. However, when I see literal children buying expensive anti-aging products, I lose a little faith in humanity.
@CindyLouWho77

I live near a Sephora that’s in the same Manhattan neighborhood as the prep school Dalton (which has a higher tuition than Harvard). The number of preteens shopping alone who buy hoards of skincare (many products that will have the opposite effect of anti-aging) and use an AmEx black card to pay is disturbing. These kids are VERY influenced by TikTok.

Honestly though, as a ‘maturing’ woman - the more I ‘mature’ the less I am likely to judge myself or others harshly, (unless it’s something particularly heinous). I’m just *extremely* grateful that ppl filming everything on their phones was not so ubiquitous! 😂 My husband is the opposite though, he’s out there judging everyone so I can’t really say for sure if it’s a maturity thing or gender thing or a personality thing. 🤷‍♀️😂

The worst RMS ad on social media is that nail tapping on the packaging and I hate it so much I almost didn’t buy … but I love Rose Marie videos so much it overtook the anger. But ASMR can die.

I think it’s so fun to be able to identify the year a picture of me is from by the hair/makeup/clothing. Maybe it was the year I wore that grandpa sweater every other day, or winged liner, but it’s fun to look back and see all these versions of myself.

Loops earplugs have saved my marriage. My misophonia is off the charts. I have different kinds for being in the room with him while he's eating or being on the subway with people doing literally anything. (Also carry a perfume sample on the train for obvious reasons.) I have ones specifically for sleeping so I don't murder my husband in his sleep. I know this sounds like a paid ad, but I'm not involved with the brand. Loops are amazing for anyone who gets overstimulated. Love you, Kackie!

i am counting the days until the "generational divide" trend of makeup categories dies. it's v3 of the side part and the skinny jeans discourse. people in all ages like all kinds of things, trendy or otherwise. but shaming something like eyeshadow as "old" not only shames the people who enjoy it but also makes it harder for people who MIGHT enjoy it to overcome the fear of judgement and try it! imagine if one day we just let people enjoy things!

Maybe it's also that you both became moms (of boys!) on the same general timeline that I did, and I love to hear the perspective of women who also have to be conscious of our investments in all respects. Loved this video! Such a fun discussion. The smoking being popular with teens makes me so angry, though. It's a risk factor for almost every major and common health condition, and it really ages people. So, when a vid is well-constructed, delivered by a creator w/ an engaging voice/personality, AND real knowledge about the topic they’re sharing w/ the audience… they happily get my full attention. I’m picky picky, & limit my time on KZbin, but great channels provide great insight & knowledge. Also, long-form content doesn’t wreck brain synapses 👍🏽😉

I think you're very much on the right track with the fatalism + smoking thing, and alllllso: self-medication. About a jillion people have totally inadequate access to healthcare, especially psychiatric meds (*extra especially* ADHD meds) and pain meds. The healthcare situation and economic landscape for low-income people and those with limited access/coverage has grown worse and worse over the last six or eight years, and people will seek relief wherever they find it, particularly if they can get it without a prescription. Nicotine is a powerful psychoactive/neuroactive substance, so people put it to use. (Hat tip to my friend who was a pack-a-day smoker until they got meds and then suddenly they "didn't need to smoke as much." They didn't quit right away, but they went from a pack per day day to about three cigarettes per day with approximately zero effort. I think about that a lot, about what it means with regard to the reasons people smoke.)

Yes. Yep. 💯 IF I’m told 1️⃣ more time to shorten my txts, by my kids… IDK the outcome. They’ve chosen to use txts as replacements for their voices/talking, & I REFUSE to. So, if convos just are too intrusive for such “busy lives,” they WILL receive txts which include feelings, questions, agreed upon times (!), etc etc… I mean I AM fun/do enjoy doing nearly anything w/ each other of them + their partners/friends-for real. But short-hand communications are the fastest way to create misunderstandings &/or hurt feelings… imho 😉☮️🌻📝📞

That influencer clip talking about how hard her job is just hawks me off. Is earning a living a grind? Yes. Is it hard? That’s relative. But some jobs are inherently difficult - like teaching, nursing, mining, etc. other jobs are as hard as you perceive them to be- selling stuff or a lifestyle to others for a living is a grind but let’s call a spade a spade - it’s not hard. And coming from that person is particularly annoying. They grate me.

13:35 I have to say I find people who say that if everyone picked their ideal career we would have no engineers so ridiculous. I am a deeply creative person and spent most of my young life wanting to be a designer of some kind before dropping out of my art and design course, after that I kind of fell into mechanical engineering and I love it, I can’t see myself doing anything else for a job. I still love creating and drawing for the people I love but I’d never choose to do it for work over engineering. Ironically I’ve also found that my work feeds an entirely different and fulfilling aspect of creativity that I feel like a lot of more traditionally creative people discount. No major points just sharing a point of view as someone who I feel like sits on the fence between art/STEM 😅

But they mostly do landscapes and feelings- astrology signs, flint has one called “uncle Al’s house,” that kind of thing. Good throw, good layers, all that stuff taken care of. My hot take is that the good scent companies and what’s at sephora have almost zero overlap.

Oh god hard agree, the spitty "pss psss psssss" whispering and the clacking of nails, CONSTANTLY, on EVERYTHING -- the worst. But I'll give a pass for a brief tap while discussing the product's packaging. Sure, hearing what one or two nail taps sound like while you're telling me what the package is made of and how sturdy/fingerprint-proof/etc a case is, and can also give me a clue to the type and density of the plastic (like acrylic vs polystyrene vs polypropylene, some of which are durable and scratch resistant, some of which are brittle and prone to breaking at hinge points or chipping).

This is super specific, but the way Wild deodorant (a refillable deodorant brand) releases all these "limited edition" deodorant cases and sends them out to influencers for ads just feels so opposite the purpose of a "refillable" product to cut down on waste??? I would respect the brand so much more if they just sent new scents and things to creators for their ads instead of the constant "look at this new design, go buy this new case." Although the product isn't so great either so I wasn't too upset to give it up.

Angeschka Nyqvist. A trend that I'm over is the simple eye look. I'm still rocking the dramatic eye look. However, the one that I'm totally over is the multichrome eyeshadow. I'm tired of putting a shadow on where it appears different than what is in the pan. 🦋👩‍🦰

god the asmr thing makes absolutely no sense anyway bc as someone who both has misophonia and also enjoys asmr........it's pointless as best and off-putting to the point of closing the video at worst. like, the mouth sounds will absolutely send me into a rage and whispering is almost always a no-go too, but even though i typically LIKE tapping, throwing it into a random makeup video is like, ok?????? WHO is this for??? most people who like asmr have hyper-specific sound preferences and theyre not relying on a random makeup tiktok for those sounds lmao

Limited releases and things not coming back in stock, ugh. I've been looking for a good brown/neutral palette and I feel like I missed all the releases and now it's impossible to get (thinking Danessa Myrics neutrals palette or Make Up by Mario palette that's still available from his website but like a third of the price to ship to Europe).

OMG THE TAPPING. That and the sleeve over the wrist and half the palm. JUST STOP!!!! Also I will probably say this in every video but I love that Kackie is so funny and smart and **articulate**. Kackie I love how you seem to naturally and extemporaneously express often complex feelings or concepts in a very concise manner. Plus I love your vocabulary. Every video I see I'm like "yay! Kackie used another great word!!" That word for today's video is eschew (actually eschewed, in context at 2:50). Edited to add: I'm not even done with the video and she's also used imbue and paradigm. Woot woot!

Kohl Kajal is an "og" recipe / category of eyeliner -- historically they weren't formulated to be extremely precise and stay exactly where you put them (and the tech and ingredients required for that kind of performance weren't even available). If you're looking for Ultra Black Eye Makeup That Doesn't Migrate, your best bet is to experiment with a few well-reviewed liner pencils or potted cream/gel formulations to figure out what works for your makeup style, your skin chemistry, and your climate -- and that might be different products for waterline vs tightline vs a big wing vs a rock'n'roll smudge-out. I'm fond of the Milani Stay Put liner pencil for waterline (it's not bulletproof, but it's longer-lasting in that spot than others I've tried), and potted cream/gel/liquid liners or shadows for wings and smudged-out liner (About Face's black liquid shadow is pretty great, or you might try a potted one like Melt).

sorry. the super thick lash thing is a trend: like shoulder pads, mullets, rave pants, mom jeans, camel toes, skinny brows, laminated brows (it looks like you wiped jazz off your face, like that's ALL I can think about when I see it), Karen hair, chunky highlights, deep contouring in natural light, etc. It will go away and then come back again. Just like all this other stuff. You're sweet for saying it isn't....but it is. Good on yah. You're nice.

The nail tapping makes my past piano play me and current me shudderrrr XD Also, vanilla/caramel smells atrocious on me lol XD any miniscule amount of it gets amplified so hard that they all smell like I dipped into a vat of vanilla extract. Thank god I mostly go for indie perfumes XD

Same, most of my fragrances -- both personal and home -- are very masculine-leaning. Wood, oud, incense, leather, crisp herbals. Anything vanilla or dessert-ish are an immediate hard no. DS&Durga's Bowmakers, Armani Prive Bois D'encens, Maroma Olibanum & Citrus, nearly anything from Comme des Garcons... however, the gourmand perfume 'splosion makes it a lot easier for me to avoid temptation.

I am 39. I hate and don’t care to participate in viewing TikTok. It’s like the gen-z age of “America’s funniest home videos.” Kind of dumb, generally not informative, short, random, and attention-needy. Longer formats like KZbin videos are definitely more enjoyable. However, I just found you, and I have a very similar face shape and a similar nose and the way my eyes are set to yours (I have platinum hair though), so I will be interested to see your thoughts on makeup! Also, I paint. 😊 Yay! 🫶🏼

Also, in full disclosure, I do smoke. I hate it. It’s gross, and well, I hate having to quit. It sucks. I’ve quit with all of my children. It’s definitely not classy. I fancy myself classy enough otherwise. And, I try to not be in the space of my own children or other people as well when I do. It’s a hard bad habit to kick. I try not to inconvenience others and be rude- and I do continually try to muster the urge to quit! I’ve never done any drugs. But, smoking is really hard to quit.

Yeah I'm never going to use tik tok. If I see a tik tok, I see it via reddit like a real Millennial. I also hate ASMR. Not happening. The main thing I'd like to see in the beauty space is the death of judgement and especially voicing that judgement. The amount of people who feel perfectly comfortable giving strangers unsolicited opinions on their makeup, body, hair, nose, fashion, lashes, hairline, eyebrows, skintone, nail beds, weight, jewelry color, engagement ring, FACIAL HARMONY (why is this so prevalent???), color season, femininity, masculinity, body hair, plastic surgery, and general vibe is stupid high. I could keep listing all day; it never stops and gaaaahhhHHHD. Just stop. Let people exist in peace and adorn themselves how they wish. Life's hard enough without getting complexes out of nowhere because a weirdo couldn't keep their main-character-my-opinion-is-fact-actually cakehole shut. Another thing is thin brows. It's not coming from a place of "I don't like the look so people shouldn't do it" but from a place of "babe those might not grow back and you will regret it". And couldn't your touring friend have just like....... drank a Coke? Instead of smoking 😬

So I popped over to Reddit yesterday, and my home page was full of posts from a couple makeup subs I'd visited recently while hunting for lipstick swatches. I clicked on one in MakeupAddiction that was a user's pic of her own makeup asking for feedback and also to guess her age (whyyy?). The makeup was not really my style preference, but it was fine! A little experimental, which is imo better than Same Ol' Boring! And most of the comments -- despite the sub's first rule being "kindness pls" -- were SHREEDDDDINNNNG HER. Dissing her makeup color choices, application, hair, even /downvoting all of the op's comments and replies/ and I just ... what the eff is even going on here?! Most depressing thing I've ever seen, will NOT be going back. :(

@@culturecrashAL Seriously, I see these kinds of comments allllll over the place. I try so hard to combat comments like that. Anonymity can be good, but it's really gotten too many people used to saying what they want without consequences. We can dodge the "talk sht get hit" kind of consequences online, so people get reeeeeal bold. It's just gross to be a dck to people like this, even if you think you're being helpful. I've seen lots of posts like "this person irl told me my nose is too long, do I need surgery" and stuff like that and it's like WHAAAAAT

YES labor thing. but also like, if we weren't expected to be robots and had the flexibility to take care of our mental and physical health and be allowed to work a few hrs/day, I'm sure a lot more people would happily do plumbing and engineering and whatever else needs doing because it's not soul sucking. And appropriate days off. Id love to be a house cleaner if i could do it for a few hrs a day because I like it and ik so many do not! But it would be impossible to afford to live doing that for a few hrs a day , heck even full time. Need a system overhaul.
