I've never had a smartphone, and most likely never will. The thing that made me feel better was I stopped watching the News.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I actually started distancing myself from my phone after watching one of the Kate and Abbie show episodes. It has already been so great! I have more time to cook, play with my kids, write. I wish I could switch to a flip phone but my current work obligations won't allow that. I'll be not using it as much as I can allow though!

You are a wise one. It's amazing how many people experience an event just taking the picture or photo and actually missing the event as a result.

You and Abbie inspire me so much 🥹 Abbie taught me 85% of what I know about writing, and you've taught me just how beneficial yoga, digital minimalism, and meditation (tho I'm still not good at that last one quite yet, haha) can be for my mental and physical health 💛 just wanted to say thank you and to inspire you in your work as it's touched and taught so much of us 🥹 God bless 💛

When my daughter was 14, she lost her phone for about 6 weeks as a consequence for some rule she broke (it was a big deal, 6 weeks wasn't too much, pls trust) and after the 3rd week she was like Mom... this is crazy, but I feel just so much more relaxed. I'm less anxious. I think this opened her eyes to this exact feeling.

This is SO important, there should be laws that support this and be against the greedy companies with all the notifications and programming to create addiction. Rich techy children are being educated without this technology and most of them into montesori or similar, that tells you all you need to know on how dangerous it is for not only an adult mind but how it change us when we are developing from a child. Thanks Kate for shaping with what you do the future of today.

Thank you so much for sharing your entire phone use journey. :) One question I still have is how you deal with thinks like listening to music, podcasts or audio books. For me this is one thing that makes it even harder stepping away from my phone usage. I find spotify still a good way to listen to all of my favorite music, because buying all of the cds would be quite pricy. Do you have tipps on how to use other forms of media without having a phone? ❤
@KAEmmons3 ай бұрын
I use my laptop for listening to music and audiobooks when I am at home. In the car, you could use an ipod, or just mindfully use your phone for that purpose. :) Just some ideas. Hope it helps! Thank you for being here friend

@@KAEmmons I am so happy for reading your comment right now. These are very interesting tipps and I will try them out during the next time! I just wanted to thank you from my heart for sharing your journey with mindful living on youtube. I watch them now for some years and they really helped me to ground myself more and question some life decisions. I also like your podcast very much :) . Lots of love ❤️

How do you cope with the added pressure of having to over explain this lifestyle to new people you meet because they eventually will ask for your number and insta handle... I tried the limited phone usage and it damaged a few relationships because of the lack of response from me. People think I use the limited phone usage as an excuse to avoid them or I am just considered as rude. I don't have insta anymore and I feel like I need explain that to people as well. My present moment without my phone around in my day to day really reduced my anxiety but at the same time caused a lot of anxiety from the energy I received from those around me.

this is a great question, thank you for creating space for it. I am very open with people about this lifestyle, and I find that usually people are pretty interested. I text with friends via messenger, and that's on my computer, so that's pretty easy for most people. But the most important thing in a relationship is acceptance, so if this lifestyle is something that helps you, don't be afraid to just say "hey, it's different but it's really helping me to feel more grounded and healthy. I would love to be able to connect with you via ______(email, text on computer, phone call, zoom, whatever)____. I think people who genuinely want to connect will, regardless of medium. :) I hope this helps, sweet soul! I am cheering you on in your journey.

I have social media on my phone, but not on my laptop or IPAD. The latter 2 devices are for working, and I use them a lot. I do not want to be distracted. I tend to live on my phone for brain breaks or as a means of social avoidance. I need to break the phone habit. 😢

I want to incorporate more digital minimalism. How can I continue my social media book marketing with Instagram reels and stories without a smart phone?
@KAEmmons3 ай бұрын
I upload videos to instagram from my computer and I think it goes into the reels section? You might be able to find a scheduling app on your PC that can do this.
