+Hurricane VII I know that the Benzene series is a series but the series are not fully connected. Which is why it seems to go from full on nonsense to serious philosophical, existential themes. 1 segment is Benzene[Therapeutic] and Nitrobenzene[Ethnomusical] 2 segment is Paradichlorobenzene[Destructive], Antichlorobenzene[Sin cleansing] and Toluene(Methylbenzene)[Riddle solving].

That would make sense considering that both Benzene and Nitrobenzene had stated in-song that they had no meaning, while Paradichlorobenzene said that its meaning is "benzene" and Antichlorobenzene asked if it had a meaning but never answered. Toluene did say it had a meaning though, but it's hard to find one when you can't tell what Luka is saying in the song, because it's all asterisks.

I have a personal theory that Luka/the Cat isn't an actual cat, and that her being a cat is some sort of metaphor for her having all the answers and yet not sharing most of them.

Hurricane VII I personally believe that the Cat isn't Luka. I say that Society is the Cat. It looked down on Len for wanting to be evil, abusing people who do even the smallest transgressions against him. It is deceived by Rin because she promised the cat she'd fix the wrongs of the world and crush Len's sinful corruption. Rin drowned the cat, perhaps in lies, since that's all that pertained to the two. The drowning killed the cat due to it continuously allowing her to feed it lies.

It's not as black and white as that. In paradichlorobenzene len says that good and evil are different but he can't distinguish between the two. Antichlorobenzene says that good and evil are a unity and that one can't exist without the other, but rin doesn't care about it anymore.

Paradichlorobenzene is more about self-righteousness than justice or goodness. Antichlorobenzene reflects on the "justice" of that and ultimately answers with apathy, at least according to the former. Len feels restricted by the system and wants to smash it whereas Rin acknowledges the necessity of it, despite getting hurt by it as well. Ultimately, both seem to describe the other as a drowning cat, Len drowning from his self-righteous fight against society and Rin by accepting society as it is. Len himself admits that he isn't in it for the morality, he's simply using that as an excuse, whereas Rin considers accepting even the rotten parts of society. They're both ultimately guilty of what they accuse society of and Rin seems to realise this more so than Len.

What’s interesting is that Garuna often represents himself as a black cat with white tipped details. However back in the day when this song was released, he used it as more of a way to reflect society. I feel like Paradichlorobenzene is a commenter, who can’t decide what to do with this system [of hating] that’s set up, so he goes with the flow despite hating it. He says the meaning is benzene because benzene is an evil comment [according to toluene] and the other remasters of benzene are the continuous flow of the evil comment becoming more and more nonsense. Anticholorbenzene is a justice social worker, [according to toluene] that wants to end all evil, but realizes that she is part of the problem and steps down( not completely, I feel like.) Finally, toluene is the key to this series, but I wouldn’t say just the benzene series. I would say most of Garuna’s songs that he made have a line explaining their meaning. This song is my childhood. I never actually understood how deep this song is when I was little, but the melody and the lyrics stuck with me because of how beautiful and elegant this whole song sounds. This whole song sounds like a grand, elegant debate between people with opposing views, as if they were two philosophers trying to prove whose ideas are right and whose are wrong. The way the music was structured just makes it seem so elegant and elaborate, so much in fact, I can't even find a word other than elegant to describe it. I think it's two views of the same story. They're reacting to the same thing...'evil' vs 'good', but they have different interpretations. Len is going to keep trying, even though he thinks it may be useless. Rin, however, is totally burned out. My interpretation is that, by destroying all the sinful things, nothing will make sense anymore. The song shows us that Good=World=Bad, so they must coexist, otherwise they'll end up deceiving each others' existence. Rin became insane trying to reach perfection and sorta learned she was doing the same as Len who hated everything. Both are the extreme sides of the same problem. Toluen is what elucidates the whole thing by asking what makes us "humans" after all. We are good and bad, sinful and cleansed; being human means being all those things.

Here is a theory that I haven't seen mentioned within the comments yet. I think this song series is about leaving religion. Len is losing faith and so went out to seek answers despite him already knowing that he doesn't really believe in his deity. Rin comes along as she spots Len roaming around his town and pursues him to find out what's wrong with him. She picks up on Len's predicament and tries to assure him that God will make everything better even though she knows she can't guarantee it. Len sees through her and makes arguments against the religion by pointing out hypocrisies by how they view justice and so on. Rin realizes that she exemplifies this and then becomes the stray cat that drowned (on her sorrows?). She doesn't want to admit it and so we are brought to the point of this song where she says she wants to forget because she feels that her world view has been attacked and she doesn't know what to do. Len assures her that they can still live as they are despite their sins (jealousy hate, etc). Rin then accepts her situation and is willing to still let others from her religion believe what they believe, saying that both good and evil are fine (good being the religious and evil being them). If I had to guess which religion it is that they're leaving it would probably be Christianity as can be seen by all the upsidedown crosses in this song

This song mainly talks about "Paradichlorobenzene", as a "reply" more than a "continuation" to a series (not that there is any moving plot whatsoever in this series). Owata-P said so in his video description of Antichlorobenzene, saying "This is my answer. And so, question". It could be interpreted that Rin here, wants to be right, and keeps on calling everyone wrong. (A keyword from Paradichlorobenzene said "I am right, and you are wrong"). Having to have a large amount of hatred to a specific person, to the point where one gets so mad, Rin thrust the cat into the pond. From this point, it's hard to tell which is evil, and which isn't. Antichlorobenzene speaks of "them" (Paradichlorobenzene) as evil, though Toluene speaks of "them" (Paradichlorobenzene and Antichlorobenzene) as knowing nothing at all. The movie done by Mieno-hito, several of the lyrics or words are written upside down, it can be interpreted that it symbolizes that it's a complete opposite to "Paradichlorobenzene". Also, note that Antichlorobenzene is not a real compound or mixture or element; unlike the other songs in the series.

The human don't know what is right or wrong, though we are controlled by other human beings who also don't know what is right or wrong. Len and Rin could symbolize two different kind of human, the one who live with the rules and becomes more corrupt or the human who tries to show the truth behind being.

I think that Rin and Len symbolise different ideals. Rin wants to be good and make everything perfect, while len wants to let loose and be a little wicked. The black cat looks down on Len because he wants to be a little evil, and follows rin because she does what is "right" in her chase for perfection but ends up being thrown into the river by rin while len doesn't know how the cat drowned. In the end, the song asks if you want to stay a beast or become a human. I think that from len's perspective becoming human is embracing the little bit of evil and from rin's perspective becoming human means not doing anything "sinful"

To every matter there is an anti-matter, and when both meet they annihilate each other. In which paradichlorobenzene is a real compound while antichlorobenzene can be interpreted as anti-(matter)= anti-(paradichlorobenzene). This may tell us that Rin and Len might both truly wanted to destroy each other. There are upside down crosses all over Antichlorobenzene, which can indicate anti-religion. Made a theory: It starts with Paradichlorobenzene, and it's in moth repellents/killers. Another person that is part of Vocaloid is called mothy. Paradichlorobenzene just shows the song creator's hate towards mothy because he gets so much "attention." coming back to a song you heard as a teenager years later hits real different. 13yrs me saw this as just your ordinary eerily sorrow song. 18 years old me is literally seing a perfect description of the phase shes going through right now wanting to make the world right, but convincing herself she has no strenght to and making no move at all to change, instead just either constantly lamenting it or drowning herself in self satisfaction like a drug to avoid thinking about it, and then demonizing whatever doesnt fits in her dream world. ive never had any idea that id grow up to relate to such a song.. but for some reason, it kind of brings me at ease and makes me a little happy to hear this song now. like if someone was telling me they know how i feel... ofc being understood wont change anything, but damn it does makes me really happy. i have no doubts this phase, like all other phases i had, will end someday, and sure it feels horrible once i think about it but its not as fucked up as it sounds... but still, its a hugeass obstacle in my life... i wish it could end faster...

i believe the message of the series is “cleansing the soul of stupidity and coming to your senses.” because the songs have a reoccurring theme such as “what is the purpose of this and why am i that, showing a form of sentience within rin and len. also, benzene/paradichlorobenzene is a chemical that is commonly used in cleaning products such as bathroom cleaner or etc. it’s a bit of a vague message, but that’s just my theory. Additionally at the end of the song, it says the ones who are beasts and the ones who try to be human” or something. I believe this may be about the world and how you have to fit in to survive. Many people are all the same and they can’t change. However, people still want to be their true selves but can’t due to the way of the world. That just adds on to the “sentience part” of who you are. Also, the hidden messages in the mvs say things about “being controlled” or “why can’t i be accepted” or the reoccurring thing about everything is the same, so that could also be important (it is it’s literally the whole meaning of the song)

GUYS! It's about Len being some sort of corrupted health care professional (stick with me) who operates on criminals who were shot when attempting suicide by cop or situations like that (or you know, being innocent and black which is when Len would let them live) Or a corrupted law enforcer. This explains him leaving into the night with no explaination. He's on call. Rin is jealous because she knows he's living at night and has a lover, but Rin isn't his girlfriend, which is why she can't get upset with him. There's a reason Len and the mystery lover can't be together (perhaps it's a man? Rin is religous, clearly, and maybe that's why she's talking about sin) but Rin is possibly an angry sister with burning taboo feelings who realizes there's nothing she can do about the "sin" and gives in, accepting everyone because of her own "sinful" feelings. I feel this theory MUST be right because it covers everything.
