I just realized this is almost a pure parallel to Mayan myths. Rin or the unnamed priestess offers herself to bring life and rain to land. The Rain God (who I assume is played by Len) is meant to represent Chark (Charc) the Mayan God of Rain. Rin essentially goes deep underground to the sacred home of Chark and begs for him to either kill her so the rains can fall again or (and I'm just guessing on this) let her live and let the world stay in the drought it's caught in.
