The Jesuits praying for Nobunaga is such a small but nice historical touch.

@@thomas5585 A moment in history. The convergent meeting of two cultures. Oda Nobunaga is using the Portuguese to access firearms which he became famous for. The battle of Nagashino was all about the power of concentrated rifle fire. Oda was victorious in a new era.

@@georgehunter2813 Its insane to me how quickly Nobunaga adapted to firearms being used seeing how the Japanese at the time wanted nothing to do with the outside world. The man was weird as hell but in battle a genius

The way they portrayed Nobunaga here is much better than most I've seen, he's not shown here as a crazed, destructive brute but rather an ambitious, ruthless but level-headed and intelligent warlord who simply wants to beat down what's left of the Takeda and declare himself Shogun.

Was going to agree with you but you have to realise the man was brutal but he was also everything else you mentioned. The way he adapted to firearms being used and their tactics already shows you the man is smart and willing to learn which proves his ambition to get better and get on top

@@shxmana I acknowledge that he was brutal, I was only saying that they did not show him as the wild and reckless psycho he's been portrayed as in other media. In this film he's patient, cunning and meticulous not just striking at anything that moves and carefully evaluating the situation before going through with his attack. I also heard that before the battle represented here Nobunaga had Iga ninja scoping Shingen and his army out for some weeks, bringing back reports on what armaments they had, the current state of the Takeda forces, etc.

@@sethguest781 yeah I agree with you! What I meant is that Nobunaga was brutal at times but he was also extremely smart especially when it cane to warfare. Most of the crazy stories about Nobunaga came from before his father passed away and he was forced to clean up his act and lead the clan. As a ruler after his father passed he was still quite the flamboyant person…. But he was also smart ambitious and wanted to unify Japan under one banner

@@shxmana If you ask me, I think the scene best representing what kind of man Nobunaga was is the moment one of his samurai tells him that Shingen had been dead already for 3 entire years, the moment this reaches his ears you can certainly tell that Nobunaga is furious but also in awe of the dastardly trick played on him by his foe. The room goes silent, the man rises and breaks out into song of what is basically his way of saying "Well played, old man. Well played." That's probably how he really was, a brazen warrior but yet he also had his moments where he'd express his feelings over certain things in his own special way.

@@sethguest781 oh yes I agree man well said! It does represent him amazingly considering the information available to us about him. He certainly expressed himself in a flamboyant manner since he was quite annoyed at the ceremonial culture of Japan at times.

Agreed, not a wild-eyed, psycho megalomaniac hellbent on destroying everything like how he's been portrayed in other media about him. Here, he's patient, cunning, determined and carefully checks every detail from top to bottom before proceeding to make a move on his foe, one of the better ones I've seen for certain.

Nobunaga thought of the modernization and cultural revolution, but Japan was not prepared for it at that time. The revolution then had to wait for a century when Emperor Meiji took power and SATCHO alliance's modern imperial army ended the shogunate. Both were brutal in their respective eras.

Yeah, but did he really wear European armor to Nagashino? This movie is the only evidence of that I've ever seen.

@@snakey934Snakeybakey We don't actually know what all his armor exactly looked like. Most of this things burned away along with the castle during his betrayal. In some paintings he did have western things and clothes but he always wore japanese clothes. We did find aa helment that has that european flair that might have belong to him, but we only have two examples of his armors and they were Haramaki/Do maru (Traditional Japanese armor with the lacings). I believe this was the first time Oda was ever portrayed with western armor in film.

Oda Nobunaga was an excellent general and leader unfortunately he had a nasty habit of underestimating the weaknesses of his enemies, such led to his ultimate demise at Honno-Ji in 1582. That arrogance is reflected in the way he calls Shingen an old geezer here.
@mikeviscusi5681
@mikeviscusi5681 Жыл бұрын
I completely disagree with this statement. He never underestimated his enemies. What he really did was underestimate his subordinates on who might betray him. It was foolish of him to completely isolate himself in the middle of Japan with no close loyal generals nearby to protect him… which gave Akechi Mitsuhide an opening to kill him.
@sethguest781
@sethguest781 Жыл бұрын
@@mikeviscusi5681 No wonder he was crushed at Honno-ji, then, no army was there to defend him. Nobunaga, from what I heard, was not one who listened to wise council and did whatever he wanted, the latter costing him everything in the end. His best general, Tokugawa Ieyasu, warned him several times about Mitsuhide's treachery but he always brushed it off thinking there was no way the man would turn on him since he subjugated all the remaining clans.

Its more of being ruthless and not having limits on that ruthlessness. To take a quote from the movie ocean's eleven "he'll kill you then go to work on you."
