Something tells me, this is what takes Chihiro down the same path as the Master Swordsman. Or rather to be more clear, to unlock the same level of connection with his blade.

My theory is that Samura was attempting a risky gamble with Chihiro's life to un-bind him from his blade. If this is the case it would prevent Samura having to face Chihiro as an obstacle he has to kill. This could also lead to Chihiro developing a sorcery technique too down the line.

Chihiro's definitely alive, but i hope this'll keep him out of the limelight for a few chapters and let other characters shine. I love him, but he's really dominated the screentime since the beginning, and I'm desperate for more Shiba, Hiyuki, Hakuri, Kamunabi content. Also, Samura sorta implied he left Chihiro alive on purpose, which fits his character pretty well. To him, Chihiro's just an idealistic kid who had no hand in the atrocities of the war. Also im surprised people thought Chihiro could put up a fight. Uruha was definitely more skilled, and still got oneshotted despite Samura not using Tobimune. It's also been repeatedly mentioned that Enchanted Blades are capable of much more than what Chihiro has demonstrated. Samura's a Sword-Bearer so skilled, he oneshots other Sword-Bearers. I'm glad plot armour didn't affect the logic of the situation.

6:55 its more likely the blades were created with their own original purpose. information gathering, stalling the enemy, controlling the battlefield, and the magatsumi was probably for revitalizing the battlefield... however its abilities transform based on its user and how they envision its original intent. also on a side note, samura blinded himself after the war because of what he seen. the guy who seen the most during the war blinded himself so he wouldnt have to witness it over and over

This manga every week is a knot in my stomach. I still cant get over that they killed Uruha. No way Chihiro is dead then the narration keeps refering to his future. Even Samura kept talking about him in present tense when teleport guy showed up.

Chihiro being "dead" is what will allow him to avoid Samura's owl im sure. They were both brought up in around the same time, they could have ended the chapter with Chihiro being cut down but they didnt. So I think thats drawing a direct correlation between the two. Samura wont be looking for him so he would see him when the time counts. I feel we'll get a short perspective change to the Kamunabi and Hiyuki for a bit

How the enchanted blade's spirit energy is manifested in physical form seems to be determined by the wielder. Chihiro's fish is obvious, and part of Hiruhikos' reality is centralised on stories since he was sheltered. Hence he has the giesha. Not sure about the powers themselves because of Cloudgouger. Also, Samura is the coldest but I doubt he's top 5 even with his blade.

I think they wanted people to think chihiro is dead. He needs to take some heat off of him and it’s to many moving pieces for chihiro right now. Shiba did this to protect him and like hiruhko they have a lot to learn. Yura is in total control and he states it’s time to play for keeps.
