Thanks! I have so many happy memories of that place. It's nice to be able to give my friends from outside of Columbus a sense of what it was really like.

Core memory unlocked!!! Been 25 years since I’ve stepped inside that amazing place. The only thing close to that place is The “Squidward’s Tiki Land” episode on SpongeBob. Lol! Loved this place so much! The dry ice drink was so flippin awesome. Just showed my daughter this video and turned into a little kid again while watching.

I moved to Columbus, Ohio from Georgia back in 1998. I moved back to Georgia for work in 2002. This place was a huge staple of my amazing experience living there. It had the most unique building, atmosphere, and food. I am absolutely heartbroken Kahiki is gone. Just so sad it didn't survive. It was a true landmark. Thank you so much for posting this. It was nice to remind myself of the amazing experience again and very thankful and lucky I got to walk through those big heads in my life to enjoy a meal. Driving by it everyday was a highlight of my commute. I don't think there was a work day that I didn't look over at it at the stop light.

Thank you so much for sharing! I lived in Columbus for a year or so when I was a teenager and my Dad loved this place! It was the go to place for birthdays, holidays, celebrations and a place to take visitors who came to see us in Columbus. I just loved watching your video, it brought back a lot of good memories!

This hurts my heart to watch this - we had so many great years of fun at this place. Still hard to believe they tore it down for a drugstore....

This brings back a lot of memories. I still talk about this place today how unique it was. I have heard that when they tore it down they numbered all the pieces and put it in storage and someday they were going to rebuild it at another location.

Same year I had the privilege of experiencing this marvelous place. I cannot believe such a treasure was destroyed for a big pharma convenience store. Ah, America.

Born and raised in Bexley and this video is the first time I've ever seen the inside of the Kahiki. Watched them build it during our regular visits to The Ranch across the street, but we never ate at the Kahiki.

The Kahiki closed on this date 17 years ago. My now ex wife and I ate there the day we got married, 2 weeks earlier. Glad I got to experience it. Sadly, a Walgreens has occupied the space since 2001.

They told the public was that another restaurant would open downtown bigger and better. That never happened. The family then decided to focus on their frozen processed food line that had absolutely nothing in common with the food served in the restaurant. Never will I set foot in the Wallgreens that sits on the Kahiki grave site nor will I ever eat their processed slop that bears the name Kahiki.

It's been 16 years and I still miss this place. That Sunday brunch with unlimited strawberry daiquiris and pina colodas along with the live band truly was a spectacle to behold. That half-assed frozen food just isn't the same.
