Hi, it was a bit of a wait, but I'm glad you got to watch and react to Kai Hahto. His work with Wintersun (the other video I recommended in my earlier comment) is worth checking out as well. There are lots of videos to choose from if you want to see more of him. I'm not a drummer, so I'll leave the technical comments to others. I hope to see you again soon with another reaction to his drumming (or even to Nightwish, as they are an awesome band). Have a great weekend!

Oh yes, he's the bee's knees an the dog's *****ks of Finnish drumming. He has a (not unique by any means but) rare bass drumming style with both heels always raised from the floor. This allows him to work the left true hi-hat with the left heel of his left foot when needed. And I love the Mr. Hahto drumcam videos, they are just so, not just entertaining, but entrancing.

Matti, thank you for educating me on this. I had no idea he had such an odd but fantastically immense bass drum technique and approach! I have genuinely learned more in this last 3 hours from the comments thread than in the past few months, I'm very thankful for all you and the others have shared :) Mr. Hatho is a complete legend and beast that's for darn sure. Mr Kai Hahto is a very respected drummer and drumming teacher here in Finland. He's a current drummer for the symphonic metal giant "Nightwish" and for more progressive "Wintersun". If i remember correctly, he injured his left hand at that time (2016). Greetings from Finland! 😎👍

I can only imagine he is Pekka, he's such a talented guy! Getting lessons from him would be a dream come true, one day! Sad about his left hand but he seems to be still crushing it with the drums, nothing can slow that man down. Thank you, kindly :) Be well.

Actually I thought it was juka that injured his hand and had to have surgery on it? I maybe wrong though.

@@davidbarrass5210 About Jukka i know only his insomnia. But i have red from some Nightwish book that Kai struggled with serious hand pain when they played on "Rock on Rio" in front of zillion people in 2016. 😅

@@pekkakarppinen1608 not heard that but you may be correct. I read somewhere juka had hand surgery in 2019 which meant he would never be returning to play drums in the band. Again it could just be misleading info.

@@davidbarrass5210 Practically Jukka retired from Nightwish (insomnia) in 2014, when they were recording "Endless worms most beautiful" album. Kai Hahto played all the drums on that album. Jukka is still the CEO of their company, Oily Empire LTD Oy.

Not to take anything away from Kai's execution but these drum parts were originally done by Jukka. Please check out some of his performances. Particularly Jukka doing Ghost Love Score. He had a unique style and was my favorite metal drummer. Now it is Haruna of Lovebites who's style catches my ear most. I'm a bass player so for me to focus on the drummer in any band they have to be special.

Kai Hahto (Haw-toe) IMO, is one of the greatest of all time. He is so impressive! Not just fast with both legs but watch more and youll see he switches leads from rt hand to left then back, w no trouble. Hope you check out his clinics. Thanks for showcasing Kai! Hello Colin! You moved from Canada to UK???? Well at least we spare you our ELECTION DRAMA!! (Ha! Ha! Ha!). On a more serious note, you know yourself how, when a band goes through a new member (singer, drummer, etc.) some of the original fans never really take to the newbie. And unfortunately, I have to say I am in that group. The original drummer, from the groups founding in 1996 to his eventual exit in 2016, was Jukka Antero Nevalainen, born in Kitee, Finland. (Interestingly I have checked all the other commenters here as of today, Sept. 19, and I don't see any mention of him by the other viewers). His story is well documented -- he suffers from such incurable insomnia problems that it makes it impossible for him to really tour with the band, so for medical reasons he eventually had to retire. Kai had been practicing with the band for some time (I believe it was actually a number of years) on an informal basis before 2016, and therefore it was easy for Kai to step in when the band eventually had to replace Jukka. But Jukka was a really great drummer in his own right and I vastly prefer his style. Had he never become ill there is no doubt he would still be with the band. As for what videos to watch, I am not aware of any specific "drum-cam" videos, but you would know more about those videos than I would, so I will leave that to your greater expertise to look for something there. The video that (SPEAKING AS AN AMATEUR !) I personally feel shows off some of Jukka's best drumming is ironically also the video that is both the #1 most requested Nightwish video AND supposed to actually be the #1 most reacted to video in the world of all music reaction videos generally: "Ghost Love Score" at the Wacken fest in 2013: see kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIrNep9-jKd0jNE (24,926,194 views as of today). I know it's not a "drumcam", but I would love to see your evaluation of his work in that video if you could do it. Otherwise ask someone who knows more than I do which videos to recommend for drumming purposes. So I subscribed. And keep well!
