I was there with USS Simon Lake and the last ship to leave in Holy Loch. Fond memories. Fish and chips, swimming at the public pool, Cowal Games, early Scottish breakfast in town, pub crawling at night on a Friday to start the weekend.

Thank you for David's story. My acquaintance with Dunoon began in 1984 as a young sailor stationed in the Holy Loch and my love for the place has grown ever since. I visit as often as possible. The scenery in that area alone is worth the price of admission!

I lived in Dunoon for 4 years. My God, the memories, my son was born in a midwives house in town. From playing golf with my 78 year old landlady. To getting the coal up every morning to get hot water. We did it all. Highland games, not letting the pub close. Meredith. Catching the last ferry. Who needed Glasgow. We had everything we ever needed in that little town. Never had to look for a cab though. Ha Ha.

What a beautiful video! I had the privilege of visiting Dunoon in the mid-1970's, when the U.S. submarine I was serving on made a stop in Dunoon/Holy Loch. We spent several days, and I fell in love with the area and the people. I would love to bring my wife and visit Dunoon again, but I'm afraid I would want to stay. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and history, and your experiences in Dunoon. It will always hold a special place in my heart and in my memories.

Thank you so much for this. My father was stationed there during the mid-60s and I, too, attended Kirn School. My first teacher there was Miss Sinclair, then I had Miss McClennan (she spoke Gaelic), and then Miss Boistelle. There was a young woman who lived with us named Janie McKechnie, who helped around our house and took care of me. I was so sad to leave beautiful Dunoon, and I really should go back someday.

Do you know what happened to the Box L's? We were told they couldn't get parts for them and we had the only two left. I never figured that out. I know there were other Box-Ls out there. They were great boats to cross the Clyde on a rough night. I was on A-Gang Small Boats in '93. I rode the Canopus over from Bremerton. EN1

Yesterday was my birthday and I am now 47 . I lived in Dunoon with my mom , my sister and step dad . My parents were in the navie and there was a couple ships stationed there. It was cold but so extremely green . It was breathtaking 😊. We hiked everywhere my mom could find and went to abandoned castles. My mother loved nature just as I do . I live in Pennsylvania and it's kind of the same whether. Just a little warmer and we can swim in Erie lake. I'm a plant lover . My name is Heather. I'm really considering growing heather. Any tips would help so I can make it as comfortable as possible. Thanks in advance 😁

I can't make out the name of the ship next to the puffer. It looks like a three master, is it the De Waden? After looking at the photo on my wall I don't think it is. Last I heard she was in a museum in England.
