I have both a 5DMarkIV and a 6DMarkII shooting both photos and videos. I’m definitely leaning towards upgrading the 6D to a mirrorless, but the 5D still meets so many of the things on my wishlist. The fact that the R6 released at the current price of the 5D is crazy! I would definitely go to an R series camera now, but I’m happy with my 5D until I can make that jump.
@markc18443 жыл бұрын
Im definitely going to get a 5D MKiv , before they discontinue them. I have Big Hands and having held a R6 it felt uncomfortably smaller and plasticy- this for me is a Biggy , I love the robust tank like feel & heft of the 5D. Now I do agree with you on the lack of Articulating Screen, however the way its implemented on the R6 is not good, as for grabbing a quick low level shot - you have to fiddle around pulling the screen out and twisting around - which also then leaves it vulnerable to damage. I consider the M series screens better implemented.

I purchased a 5D MKIV a few weeks back and it doesn’t disappoint for what little shooting I do. I wanted a full frame to go with my 90D apsc camera. If I really want to shoot 4K, I can use either camera but I primarily will depend on the 90D. I already had plenty of EF & EF-S lenses and eventually, I will upgrade to an R6. I can easily get by with what I have until that time comes. My primary focus on the next large purchase is the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 (L) II. One of the better lenses for both cameras especially the 90D. It has a lot of pixels on that crop sensor and will expose flaws in glass.

Thank you for the video. As a hobbyist outdoor photographer; I’ve asked this question to myself and got the answer as well. This is September 2024 and I’m in my late sixties. I have decided to stick to DSLRs. I own six Canon DSLRs, of which five are pro bodies having tons of shutter life remaining. I also own ten native lenses including five L versions. I shoot street/lifestyle photos, landscape, cityscape, nightscape and wildlife images. Not into videos. Would love to get a lightly used 5DIV as well. Already possess the Classic, Mark II & III. I’m aware of the strengths of the mirrorless system and watch fellow photographers use it. However, I don’t see compelling reasons that suggest the necessity of a switch. I’m confident my gears will remain fully useable even ten years later. Thanks again.

As you, I have a ton of Canon glass. That would be my main reason to consider updating to a Mark 4 vs. starting all over again with RF lenses. I do have a small RF with an adapter, but using it with EF and EFS lenses defeats the purpose of having a small mirror less camera. I take great photos but worry about the DSLR from Canon disappearing.

Half a year ago I bought a well worn 5D Mark II. I owned a M50 already but wanted to experience a full frame DSLR. I liked it so much today I just won an auction for a used 5D Mark IV. I know it is an older model but it is still a great camera. This one only has a shutter count of 38K so I feel it is worth my investment for now. I’ve owned my mark 4 since 2018, recently I was photographing a church and the mark 4 fell a good 20 feet down to the first floor. The lens didn’t make it and I had to send the mark 4 in for a new lens Mount but otherwise the mark 4 WAS IN ONE PEACE. This camera is a beast and durable and I won’t give up on her until she’s dust.

I really must say, this camera is a lot of fun. It feels way more professional than the R5 from a built quality standpoint. 30 MP is awesome, it is not too big, even for family snapshots. Dynamic range is really nice. Paired with the 50 1.8 STM starting at 3.2 and smaller and the image quality is just perfect. Really happy with that camera.

@redwintr33833 жыл бұрын
I use a mark iv as well. Dont let the mirrorless trend make you feel like the 5d iii & iv arent good cause theyre "old". Theres a reason people still shoot film... a big part of photography is the experience and i feel mirrorless lacks that. Ive noticed that a lot of people and youtubers that use a mirrorless system use the screen instead of the viewfinder. It feels very opposite to what makes photography so fun. Using a screen just feels like using a phone with better quality. Composing shots while looking through a OVF with one eye closed and hearing that clunk from the shutter makes me feel more connected to my photos and something mirrorless cant replicate.

Highly breakable flip out screen on an robust tank camera a con? Not putting an flip out screen on the 5D is keeping with the theme of an robust tank body that can take the knocks and tumbles. Great video man. The 5D range are all epic. I've owned the Mk I, II and here in 2024, am actually buying the MkIV tomorrow. It's solely for shooting stills. If I wasn't already running a Sony system for video, I'd go mirrorless with the R5 MkII, but for stills, I just cannot complain one bit about the 5D work horses that I've had. I do look after my gear, but geez - I've probably shot 1,000 commercial jobs with one 5D Mk1 body and one 5D MkII body. Big hat-tip to Canon for not programming-in redundancy to these models. Anyone comparing mirrorless vs DSLR for STILLS...look no further. Plus, it has to be said....electronic viewfinders suck balls! LOL! 🙂

The Canon 5D iv WILL be my next upgrade from my current Canon 80D (APSC). I've looked into mirrorless, & the prices are scary. Lenses depends on the subjects you will be photographing. For Macro I recommend the Sigma EF mount 180mm macro, as it is longer than the Cannon EF macro which is 100mm. For wide-angle zooms I recommend the Cannon EF 11-24mm ultra-wide zoom.

I'm just about to buy a new one. WHY? BECAUSE : It's as good as I'll ever need as a photographer. I'm an enthusiastic amateur invested in Canon lenses. The 5D series was always designed as a Pro workhorse (and that's what it became). I'll never abuse it in the same way a Pro would so there's every chance it could be a camera for life. Canon make cameras that work. They are rarely at the leading-edge of tech BUT they are generally at the leading edge of practicality, usability and reliability. THEY JUST WORK. I have a Canon 6D (which this will replace), a Canon M50 (hugely underrated camera), a Fuji X100V (a future classic) and I need a TANK in my bag. The 5D mk4 is it. Another future classic (along with the original 5D).

On the job when I have to go from dark inside shots to brighter outside shots the MarkIV is perfect with the optical viewfinder however when using the R5 in the same situation I have to adjust the brightness either up or down to get a correct exposure, very frustrating. On the other hand when shooting fast-moving subjects the R5 with eye detect or subject detect is like being in shooter heaven. 12 or 20 frames per second is just magical. My question to you is would it be worth it for me to make the investment?

The 4K gripe is not really that relevant with super wide angles available, use it as second unit to Canon C300 MKII, more annoying is no UHD, just 4K full. Have not added CLOG to, as Canon’s own PDF on it shows tons of possible problems with it, prefer to adjust settings to reduce sharpness, contrast and saturation to match C300 MK CLOG3 images once Canon’s LUT has been applied. Note 4K is 601 colour space.

After having used the R6 Clog 3 for a while I don’t think I will ever use the Clog on the MarkIV ever again … it’s really unusable in 2024 😓

This is a hobby for me. The most expensive hobby I've ever had lol! I'll stay with the 5D4 and scoop up all the L glass I can afford on ebay. I bought the body new because it just felt right. And you have the option to purchase years of extra coverage including accidental when you buy new. If I had $ saved up I would probably snatch the R6 up with an adaptor and call it a day on gear. My only problem with the R6 is sensor size. How does it size up against the 5D4 sensor in your opinion? Great video as always!✌️

it's 2024 and I am yet to buy my Mark IV after reviews, I just started my channel and that is what i can afford

id you're into mostly photography, it's no brainer really, if we talking what you get for your money. pick some nice condition 2nd body with bunch of great L glass, accessories etc for price for similar range new mirrrorless camera alone.

I am an amateur and upgraded from a rebel to the 5D4 and wow. I love this camera; the pictures are stunning, but this is coming from an amateur

So im in a situation where i can buy a 5d IV for half the price of a R6 - I think its a bargain, since im not doing that much video. But im still a little bit in doubt, can somebody help?

thought about the sony a7iii?
@KrunchyJD3 жыл бұрын
It's biggest problem is price. It's overpriced in 2022. Considering that the Eos r is arguably just as good and cheaper. The 5d mark IV should at most be the same price new. I was going to buy one, but the Eos r is cheaper and arguably as good, so I'm leaning that way...

Exactly I can't justify spending thousand or more bucks for a used 5d mark iv if I could get a Sony A7iii for the same price and get access to a better hybrid photography/videography camera

I was thinking about getting one. But when you consider the Sony a6000 had an articulating screen a year or so ahead of the mark4 and Canon always finds a way to cripple video features I can not justify getting this at this price point. I love Canon and their color science. Its the best. But this price on it in in June 2022 is a no go.

I ended up getting a second hand refurbished one that is in mint condition with a decent warranty and omg it's amazing. Haven't tried the mirrorless cameras but the 5d takes es lenses which means I can borrow lenses from almost anyone. Almost everyone in my area uses canon so that's a bonus. One of the pros I was recently speaking to said you should just go with whatever brand is mostly used in your area because parts and second hand stuff come up a lot and you can lend and borrow much easier if you're part of the same ecosystem.

Which camera do you recommend for HD video content?
@KaiCreative2 жыл бұрын
Depending on your budget I still regularly use the canon m50 for HD video and the canon R6 for 4K 👍

Built like a tank and indestructible are myths. Mk4 won't power on without the battery door being shut, it's got a very flimsy contact point. It will shut off automatically unexpectedly.
@KaiCreative Жыл бұрын
An Interesting point of view - although no canon camera will power on without the battery door closed as far as I’m aware - also I think the battery door hinge is a weak spot on most cameras - in terms of being a tank from my personal experience of using it for several years I have never had any issues at all - the only issue for me now is it’s ageing video format 🙏

The reality is, there’s no such thing as “old technology” when it comes to certain things. By default, companies market their products with one thing in mind. OBSOLETISM. In a few more years, they’ll bring out newer technologies that’ll have some people looking at their R5’s as though it is a 5D4. Side by side, there is hardly a difference. Mirrorless is not a make or break technology. Just another marketing ploy to sell the next phase of consumerism.
