I just found your channel. I completely agree with your review on this one. So far I haven't watch all the Sentai yet but Kakuranger is easily one of my favorites. It had the best mechs, the best white ranger, and best fighting and ending songs in all of Sentai. I also really liked Red and Black, how the costumes were more ninja-like, Junior was one of my favorite villains, one of the few times we see an all-evil ranger team, and I also liked how that crazy narrator gave you a little backstory behind the episode's featured yokai. I'll be checking out other reviews you did on the Sentai I did watch and there are two right now where I'm torn on deciding which to check out next

Kakuranger is certainly a great Sentai. It starts of a bit silly, a welcome change of pace from the seriousness of Dairanger (which was enjoyable in its own right, but if all Sentai had the same atmosphere it would get dull really fast). As you said, the silliness gradually fades as the season progresses and the stakes rise. Young Prince Junior is definitely a credible threat and would oblitorate the imposter that is Rito Revolto without a second thought. It's also criminal that the giant snowman fight from Episode 48 wasn't adapted into Power Rangers. The Mecha count also caught me off guard - 17 including Ninjaman, compared with the previous highest of 7 shared by Jetman, Zyuranger and Dairanger before it. Kakuranger is definitely worth a watch for any Sentai fan, and for MMPR fans who are interested in the source material. As an interesting side note, Goranger and JAKQ had a cross-over, then Turboranger had a (probably) non-canon episode featuring rangers from Battle Fever J up to Liveman, and finally Kakuranger had a cross-over special with every team from Jetman to Dairanger (which was kind of short and pointless but still cool to see so many rangers and mechs on screen together). Then Ohranger started the tradition of cross-overs with the previous team, I think not broken until Zyuohger vs Kyuranger failed to materialise but I could be wrong there. Either way, every team has at least one team-up event before Gokaiger's 199 Hero Battle, which I guess could be viewed as the culmination of all the previous mass team-ups as they led up to Gokaiger's every-Sentai-on-one-Earth continuity.

I believe what I mean regarding how the theme of Kakuranger presents itself is given what the story was for Kakuranger, the theme made it feel like they're on a quest and didn't need to be as strong in the tone of the instrumental and lyrics. In my opinion this is Sugimura’s best work and one of the influential shows in the franchise’s history. There’s a mix of traditional old school aspects with a progressive push towards the future. I love a show that embraces all things Japanese… as this one did. Sure, some of the MotW were ridiculous, but it perfectly captures ninjas and youkai! I love that Jiraiya is the America ninja, and that this show takes itself seriously; it knows when to properly insert humor… much better than Ninninger, and that’s an understatement. The dynamics within the team are good. Saizou and Seikai had moments, though more often than not, Sasuke wound up figuring a way to save them all. Tsuruhime, despite being 14-15, had some very memorable spots especially near the end game. To top it all off, Kakuranger succeeded in its visuals (Muteki Shogun) and ultimately its execution. Sugimura followed one masterpiece (Dairanger) with another, and this is his peak in Sentai. I can’t imagine starting Ohranger after this and not being disappointed with it. Sure, some aspects, like Ninjaman’s running gag, got old. Regardless, this is still a must for anyone who wants to watch a great Sentai. It rarely gets this good nowadays.
@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork6 ай бұрын
Unlike Nin, I also like that the Yokai are treated as actual monsters and not jokes. As for Ohranger, I'm sure the original vision Sugimura had before the terrorist attack would have made it just as much of a masterpiece as Dai and Kaku.

Well I think I told you I was gonna give my thought on this series in another video, well I'm finally watching it (I was waiting for the fan sub to be available in French my native language), and well here's what I think so far. I'd say that the first couple of episodes had me very worried for the first 10-12 episodes it definitly looks like you are gonna watch a goofy show which I wasn't fan of at all, I'll admit these first episodes were a pain to watch through..... BUT it was all worth it, as soon as the main antagonist Junior appear the serie starts to pick up and it really pick up, I wasn't ready at all the show become much more serious from there onward and I think by episode 24 I understand what the writter wanted to do, as the show at that point pretty much give up his comedic tone and like the Rangers themselves you reflect on this goofy and funny moment with some kind of nostalgia and I think that's really well done if that was the intention. Futhermore I really like the ranger cast, even if Sekai and Saizou can sometime be annoying the chemestry between the characters is amazing, and I ended up liking all of them, they can be goofy at times but they know how to get serious when the situation requires it, if I had to pick a favorite I would say it's Jiraya for some spoiler reasons, the only thing I would complain about this cast is they sell Tsurihime as the leader and she is a good character, but most of the time it seems that the actual leader is more Sasuke than her. And I really like the part when after they get utterly reckt they separate them to make each of them have to go through individual journey (well except Sekai and Saizou but at least they make something good by having these 2 together) and get stronger by themselves, that's a nice narrative that I'm sad the franchise never use again but it makes this serie stands out. As for the villains well I'm a sucker for Japanese Folklore and the Yokais are really cool, I also like they take the time telling you the myth and legends behind each Yokaï so that you know where it comes from, and from that matter even if some costume are silly they do a nice job of giving design that fit how each Yokai would look in modern time, that being said the highlight among the villain is definitly Junior, a punk/Heavy metal enthousiast as a main antagonist ? Fucking yes man and they even manage to justify this by picking a great yokai that fit that design (I won't spoil is true identity for those that haven't), this guy just stole the show everytime he appears and his actor has completly nailed the role. I usually don't give much interest in the mech fights, but have to give props to the Kakuranger for making the mech fight pretty good and with enough variety to not being to repetitive there is good variety here, and some mech fight are even well choregraphied. So yeah despite the first 10-12 episodes being very hard to go through, it ultimately make sense narrativly and the show really pick up from there, I still have a couple of episodes to go through but I think this season is definitly going to be in my top 3 really enjoying it.

-_- your figurart sailor moon collection is better than mine Your sentai collection is better than mine cause mine does not exist Also what is your take on the 90s sentai I hear it's hit or miss
@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork6 жыл бұрын
I think 90s Sentai is the best decade of the franchise. It was when Toei stepped out of their safe zone and allowed experimentation throughout the entire decade. We got diverse ranger casts that had personalities, character growth, flaws, teams that had to learn how to act as one, all sorts of villains that were also given equal amounts of development most of the time, excellent fight choreography, mecha was not used in every episode and some series made the rangers earn their mecha. So much stuff that when the show hit the 2000s, Toei crawled back into that safe zone.

5:44 not a bad show but I don't think it knew what to do when it came to things. But somebody needs to tell Japan that unless their in the state of Texas not all Americans dress like cowboys. 6:10 I wonder how much Toei had to pay Sunrise for that ad. 8:20 I wonder what that Japanese actor would say if he found out that American actor who voices Franky does the voice of Scorpion in Mortal Kombat.

This series has 1970s graphics, 1980s music, and 1990s release date. Seriously, why do the film and effects look like they’re from the 70s? However, I love the weirdness of the series. The Neko yokai’s my favorite and her eyes actually blink which is cool
@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork3 жыл бұрын
Don't know, but I don't care because it's still amazing nonetheless. Plus, I'd rather have practical effects from the 70s over the CGI we get today.
@kimjongoof50003 жыл бұрын
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork It really is a small nitpick, but I still can’t help but find spark n’ smoke explosions to be overused. Plus, the picture quality looks dated compared to shows like Ultraman Tiga or almost anything from the 90s. There is a blue tint on the show and the colors don’t look as vibrant nor contrast as much.
@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork3 жыл бұрын
Well Ultraman Tiga was shot on video tape, so Kakuranger would definitely look better than that if Toei were to ever remaster the show in HD as Kaku was shot on 16mm film. I prefer sparks and smoke over CGI'd versions that Sentai uses nowadays.
@kimjongoof50003 жыл бұрын
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I don’t know. Even the explosions from the 70s Ultraman and even Ultraman 80 look more thought out and elaborate than Kakuranger. It’s like Ultraman relies more on the art direction to be good and Sentai focuses more on the characters and story to be good, but compromises on the effects
@jarnahmaxux71872 жыл бұрын
I love Kakuranger. That’s all I can really say. My only real complaint is that the pacing can be pretty bad at times, specifically between episode 32-41 and that Sasuke ends up overshadowing Tsuruhime a lot throughout the series despite not being the leader. Overall 4.5/5 guis for me. Favorite episode was definitely the Daradara episodes. Also I’ve changed my stance on Dairanger. That show is still a 5/5 guis for me even despite some of its issues.
@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork2 жыл бұрын
