I think that this song has incredible foresight into life in modern society. We turn to social media to create a persona that doesn't represent our actual lives; just the best bits. We've become a Big Brother highlight reel getting our 15 minutes of fame. The modern world is a lonely place and our need for attention has grown as a consequence so we will do anything to fill the void and be noticed because if you don't, you are cast aside. This is the modern way. That's my take anyway.
