Not only is it a sentiment that isn't conveyed by the short sentence you wrote, but given the song at no point makes a direct reference and the fact that metaphor is such a heavy part of most modern imagery. It absolutely can make more sense now. Most importantly it's still an artistic production, as such is an entirely subjective experience. If the message, feeling or take away someone gets from it feels more real, or like it makes more sense than ever before, then that's an entirely correct fact for them.
