@@loexpectations9046 n 1871, Germany had a population of 41 million people; by 1913, this had increased to 68 million. A heavily rural collection of states in 1815, the now united Germany became predominantly urban.[11] During its 47 years of existence, the German Empire was an industrial, technological, and scientific giant, gaining more Nobel Prizes in science than any other country.[12] By 1900, Germany was the largest economy in Europe, surpassing the United Kingdom, as well as the second-largest in the world, behind only the United States.[13] France was the biggest economic and demographic loser of the 1870-1914 era, Britain was also a loser according to all economic data!!!!

The British thought it was a “threat” when the Germans were building up the navy. By 1912 Germany had the largest naval fleet in Europe. The Brits saw this as a threat even tho it really wasn’t. They were always rivals when it came to that, the Germans never planned an attack on the British harbors. Maybe during the war, but before the war, the British were straight up wrong

His mother was NOT German. She was the Princess Royal of Great Britain which meant she was the eldest daughter of Queen Victoria. She was liberal minded and therefore clashed with the Prussian aristocracy. Her husband was also somewhat liberal. Why do you post that his mother was German? Is it because she had German relatives like her father who was certainly from Saxe Coburg-Gotha. And Victoria did have relatives in Hanover, Germany. But why do you post that she was German? If she was raised in England and had a liberal mind how can you say that she was German? and exactly what German do you mean? Do you mean she was Prussian?...certainly she was not Prussian. Do you mean that she was Saxe Coburg-Gotha? Please do not mislead people into believing the age old myth that the British royal family is German because they are NOT German. They are as British as anyone else in Britain. As George V said during WW1 when H.G. Wells said that the British royal family were "alien and boring"....George V said "I may be boring but I'll be damned if I am alien"....and that is why the family changed their name from Saxe Coburg-Gotha to Windsor.

Things weren't quite as simple as that. They may have been monarchs, but they didn't wield absolute power. In fact, the kings of all three countries were dismayed when their nations decided to wage war on the others. Britain was ruled by a parliament, and Nicholas was a weak king who did not command respect or loyalty from the Russian aristocracy and generals. What else was the “triple entente” but an attempt to surround and crush Germany? the historical rivals of Russia, France and Britain suddenly became best buddies as soon as their monopoly was challenged by the upstart Germany. While Germany certainly did make some diplomatic mistakes in 1914, the kaiser did try hard to prevent war, he begged the Tsar to demobilise and chill out, and Wilhelm was the last monarch to mobilise HIS own army… The French weren’t interested in sitting out either, they wanted Alsace lorrain back and mobilised first to support Russia…they also violated Belgium air space before Germany invaded

Balfour: We are probably fools not to find a reason for declaring war on Germany before she builds too many ships and takes away our trade. White: You are a very high-minded man in private life. How can you possibly contemplate anything so politically immoral as provoking a war against a harmless nation which has as good a right to a navy as you have? If you wish to compete with German trade, work harder. Balfour: That would mean lowering our standard of living. Perhaps it would be simpler for us to have a war. White: I am shocked that you of all men should enunciate such principles. Balfour: Is it a question of right or wrong? Maybe it is just a question of keeping our supremacy. 1910 conversation between Lord Balfour, leader of the British Conservative Party, and Henry White, then United States Ambassador in London.

I corrected my statement before! Sry for that. Most is well translated! But e.g. that one at 2:38: "Noch nie war Deutschland überwunden, wenn es einig war." Wilhelm rather says: Germany has never before been overwhelmed when it stood together (meaning German states fighting together for one thing. There were times this happened before unification, e.g. against France before unification 1870.)
@LibertyMapper
@LibertyMapper 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for bringing this up. Yeah I know, wrong tense. With "Wenn es einig war" he rather means that the German states stood together (in this context 1870 Noth German Confederation and the southern states). You're right.

I never heard this before. Interesting. The reasons for the war seem a bit thin for me. The only thing I heard was a predisposition of calling everybody enemy that was jelous of German progress. Further, defend the honor or Austria linking it up with the honor of Germany? Very vague. I certainly would not run to enlist on the basis of these vague notions.
@Mr33500
@Mr33500 3 жыл бұрын
Why is it vague? It's well known that the alliance system linked the nations fate quite closely, and Germany losing their only reliable ally (either due to disintegration or them simply ceasing to be a power) would mean Germany's fear of being surrounded would really become true.

The Kaiser missed a trick, had he spoken in English - as he was well capable of doing - and addressed the English speaking world there would likely have been no military involvement against Imperial Germany by England and the U.S.

So I've changed my opinion and now I'm into him. If the German Empire hadn't fallen and the Monarchy had been saved, it would have been a little chance for Hitler to take over the power, since he couldn't become a monarch; so he couldn't have become the chancellor and the president of Germany at the same time.
