The size is great for portability and the batteries are easy to find. I don’t like how so many radio manufacturers are moving to battery packs and hard to find batteries. Great review.

At 3:44, NOAA is a little staticky. That is likely because the antenna is down. Like FM, NOAA channels need the antenna up for best reception. AM receives well with that antenna down because it uses a ferrite core antenna wrapped with wire and located inside the case.
@TheUrbanPrepper9 жыл бұрын
Yeah. On some of the previous takes I have the antenna up but on that particular one that made it into the video it happened to be down. I was mainly trying to get my words correct and forgot on that particular one. Sorry about that.

Finally got it. Took 2weeks. AM reception is very good [once the radio locks on to the station]. Managed to get KMOX-St.Louis and I’m in Jacksonville Florida. Interference from WBT is not overwhelming [once the radio locks onto the station]. I paid $ 12.oo+$4.oo S&H off of E-bay.

I hav a number of radios, including this one. This is an excellent radio. Battery life is very good. Receives all local stations and some semi-locals. Perfect for emergency , and emergency “go” bags. So many people don’t even own a radio. I’ve been through 2 hurricanes and power outages for 5 1/2 days. This is an excellent choice. Kaito has worked hard at improving their quality control over the years, and they have a full line of radios. They have developed an entire line of emergency radios from $12.oo up to $100.oo. Very good review. 👍🙂‼️

I carry the Sony SRF-M37W Walkman Digital Tuning Weather/FM/AM Stereo Radio. It is smaller, only uses one AAA battery, has great sound quality, digital tuning, clock, belt clip, but no external speaker.

As usual, great review, Cliff. Just a couple of thoughts on the sliding switch. I'm thinking that maybe the order of band on the band-selector switch is possibly in the order of which bands would be used the most often. Also, because you would likely be turning the power off and on much more frequently than switching bands, perhaps that function is on the roller switch because it is more durable. It is actually set up exactly like my first transistor radio, back in the mid-'60s.

it'd be great if you made a preview of a SW-AM-FM radio of your choice.The idea behind using the SW band is to be able to hear international radio stations in case of a worldwide catastrophe.

Kaito KA123 Digital AM/FM & NOAA Weather Radio with Alert & Flashlight
@OH8STN9 жыл бұрын
Hello TUP Great video and review. Some additional info for people who already have more advanced comms gear. They may not need to add an additional radio to their gear set. There are 7 NOAA weather radio channels which can be received with a scanner, dualband hamradio, multiband radio (AM, FM, Air, Shortwave, ...) by simply inputting the correct frequencies. These frequencies are listed below. The broadcasts are in FM (frequency modulation) and are regional. If one can program these channels into their scanner or other receiver, they'll not only hear local NOAA weather radio broadcasts, but conditions allowing, may also hear weather broadcasts from adjacent areas. Frequencies 162.400 MHz, 162.425 MHz, 162.450 MHz, 162.475 , MHz, 162.500 MHz, 162.525 MHz, 162.550 MHz Thanks for sharing STN

SurvivalTech Nord Great comment and more info of NOAA at www.noaa.gov Must carry some wire to clip to an antenna to improve any antenna. Have some "ear buds" to extend the Lithium battery life. And have an audio cable to connect to electronic ear muffs to hear the zombies and cut down on the noise of the fire fights if to close. Unfortunately my experience with the KA-210 was it was terrible, could not bring in FM channels at all and I'm in a major Northeast city. I returned it for a full refund. I've had the KA-200 for years, works perfectly with no problems, goes in my pack every single day. I also own the Sangean SR-35 which hands down has the best fidelity of any similar sized hand held radio. My third small hand held is the Canadian made Marathon ETFR with FM/MW/SW1/SW2 and has a small LED emergency light on the top. It's the KA-200 for EDC for me.

a must is hand crank version of these and solar panel charger is nice
@TheUrbanPrepper9 жыл бұрын
I like those kind too. However, I do enjoy having battery-powered radios too. You can charge the batteries through solar and not have to waste precious physical energy cranking away on a crank version.

"So, you have your stereo headphone jack over here ..." I'm thinking maybe it's putting out a monophonic (not stereo) signal? I'm just curious if it plays through both channels of whatever headset is employed. Thanks very much for your informative reviews of both this Kaito model as well as the Sangean DT-400W.

Thank you for the video. Question. What type of stove do you prefer for a B.O.B?
@TheUrbanPrepper9 жыл бұрын
I prefer having a butane powered stove as my primary , Since it is quick and easy. One that uses a pot in comparison to those all-in-one systems. That way you could use the pot for cooking over a fire as a secondary source. I personally use a snow peak giga power stove. If you can afford it MSR whisper light universal is probably the best Bob stove because it supports multiple fuels. The various hobo style stoves are also really good if you are in more of a wooded area.

Thank you. I live in Puyallup so plenty of material around. I like the hobo stove but I am looking for an easy stove for my daughters BOB.

Which one is the best in reception of AM? KA 200 or KA 210?
@jeffking41766 жыл бұрын
RAJKUMAR RAJARATHNAM SUBRAMANIAN The KA210 is a bit better. Has a little bit bigger A.M. antenna. The KA230 is their “long range “ radio, but does not have weather band. It is an excellent radio and does very well pulling in weak and distant stations. The only problem with it is the dial is small so it can be hard to tune,as stations are so close together. But it is a very high quality radio.

11 minutes is brief? You're turning into Nutnfancy!
@TheUrbanPrepper9 жыл бұрын
ATF6281914 LOL! That’s cold! Nutn has gotten a lot better on his video lengths recently, as his videos used to all be over 45 minutes for YEARS. I just did a quick check of the average video length time for the past 15 videos on my channel vs. his. Here are the results: TNP = 23.7 minute average. TUP = 9.6 minute average. When I originally recording this video, I was SURE that I did it in less than 10 minutes, but I was wrong. It’s hard to predict what the final time is when I break it up into multiple chunks. I wish I could do one take videos, but I suck at talking clearing for more than 60 seconds. BTW, I also checked your average time over the past 15 videos. ATF6281914 = 10.9 minute average. That’s 1+ minutes more than my average. I say that you’re turning into Nutnfancy more than I am. Checkmate. :)

I will have to disagree with you on that one. Seeing as I recorded this particular video between 1 and 3 AM on a work night. Most of my time spent with family and work. Rather than spend my spare time watching TV, playing video games or anything like that, I prefer contributing video content to the KZbin Prepper Community.
