Great vid. Very informative with regards to materials and manufacturing process. Definitely a big boy made better with your modifications. Oh, and I loved the David shade. I half-thought you were going to clown him as a bottle blond

Yeah, a lot of people will defend Prometheus and Covenant, saying that this or that was Ridley Scott's intent. I don't understand why anyone would care what Scott has to say about it...he didn't write any of it. Don't get me wrong, Scott is a brilliant director, he has just never been terribly great at picking scripts. This is the one critique he has gotten over his career, that the storytelling aspects of his films are sometimes convoluted or lopsided in structure. If Scott has a brilliant script, he will add brilliant visuals. But, if he has an uneven script, he will trust Hollywood hacks like Damon Lindelof to script-doctor. Ridley Scott is definitely not the first or least word on the Xenomorph. Ronald Shusett, Dan O'Bannon, David Giler, Walter Hill, James Cameron, and of course Dark Horse comics (who doesn't get enough credit for this), had the most to do with shaping the canon of the Alien(s) universe. I am really glad that Noah Hawley is taking the xeno-bull by the horns with the continued story, he is a brilliant writer and seems to understand nuance.

@@strangeform While I love a lot of the Dark Horse stuff, I think FOX did the right thing soft rebooting the canon in 2016 since it was literally all over the place. So most Alien media since 2014 is officially canon, except like 2-3 comics which where directly contradicted by the movies. Also they defined finally that AvP is not part of the Alien lore, but Predator what makes way more sense. But also Disney & Marvel do a great job so far, Marvel releasing the complete Dark Horse omnibuses is pretty great. And why the fist Marvel Alien and Predator comics where quite meh imo, they totally nailed with their recent Predator vs.Wolverine comic. And after the masterpiece Prey was (granted in was in production already before the merger) I hope they do a similar respectful job with Alien. And yeah Noah Hawley is clearly no fan of the prequels I doubt he will directly retcon them, but just completly ignore them since they are not relevant to his story... also it's know it'll be set around the same time as Prometheus in the 2090's. And I think Walter Hill isn't even a prodcer anymore, which is also good imo bc the franchise needs fresh blood with new ideas

Great intro and I love how your masked face appeared out of the shadows next to the box💚 It looks good especially in proper lighting and after your small adjutments and I think the size + vinyl material justify 200 bucks, but as you said there are other options, and if (ofc big if) would see the Kotobukiya( I bet I mispeeld it again lol) for 200 bucks, I would totall grab it. Alien Romulus' Alien design will be according to all informations yet heavily inspired by Gigers design, I still hope they do something new and fresh with it using practical FX and modern VFX - something like "Stompy" from Alien Isolation would honestly be my dream to see on screen, or something like the Takayuki Takeya xeno, you know designs that are true to Giger but still try to expand upon it in a respectful manner.

I hope it's not just one in Romulus, I would really like to see the Queen back in action. It won't ruin it or anything, but it would be nice to see something bigger in scope. I get the feeling that the TV show is going to have a whole hive if the rumors are true.

@@strangeform Honestly I don't like the queen conceptual wise, while the design is totally amazing no doubt, it just weakens the whole concept of Big Chap in the first one which is just so totally alien, that we can hardly comprehend it. Cameron making space termites out of them I always found a bit lame😀

The sculpt pretty much matches the Kaiyodo Revoltech Big Chap 1 for 1.
@strangeform8 ай бұрын
They are very similar, especially with the sort of flat face. Most likely the same design team. The sofubi chest and arm proportions are a little more exaggerated than the revoltech and the detail is much softer, but they likely used the same jumping off point. This is one of those figures that is frustrating because it is almost there.
@Genjitsu178 ай бұрын
@@strangeform Check the tail end as well, exact same design.
@strangeform8 ай бұрын
@Genjitsu17 yeah, and the tail is something that almost every toy manufacturer exaggerates. It's like they can't help themselves. The barb at the end was really small and very curved, and it's not like there is no reference. You get a close-up when it kills Lambert. Though, the tail on the sofubi is really meant to turn the figure into a tripod (so you don't need a stand.) You can see that they were thinking of it like sofubi "Godzilla monster" figures, rather than a humanoid form. I often wonder if the design teams for these types of figures get too close to the project and sort of becoum blind to the inaccuracies. I know that, as an artist, I have to walk away from a project for a minute because I will ether, start grinding on something that isn't there...or worse, lose objectivity. I bet there are a lot of sculptors that just can't see the differences after working on it for a while.

@@strangeform I can't handle the full cheese wedge tail blade of the Resurrection/AVP designs. lol
@strangeform8 ай бұрын
@Genjitsu17 Resurrection is really where the creature started to become more like "raptors" than a terrifying ALIEN threat. But you can sort of forgive that one because they weren't "true" xenomorphs, the cloning and Ripley DNA made them something different. The one place the larger tail barb worked was the runner/dog/bull xenomorph, but that one was sort of a pretorian, so a larger weapon worked. And that larger feather design looks a lot cooler than a block of cheese 🧀😄

I know many people couldn’t afford it, but I’d really like to see a 1/6 scale alien queen with an egg sack. The thing would probably be at least 4 feet tall.
@dbexodia108 ай бұрын
Correct me if I am wrong, but the barb at the tip of the tail looks to be too large. Shouldn't the barb be small, akin to tge stinger of a scorpion or the talon of a bird of prey?
@razariel56938 ай бұрын
No you are totally right, you can see the tail tip best in the infamous Lambert death scene. The one on this statue is a blade and no stinger, and you're absolutely right that they are in fact stingers, there's an unshot scene in ALIENS where they analyze why Gorman is unconcious after a non hurtful encounter with a xeno, Bishop figured out after some tests that the stinger has a paralyzing venom in it, what makes it easy for xenos to drag their unconcious victims into the hive and then relaxed can resin them

Is it just me, or is the back of the knee damaged? It looked like the vinyl was torn on the back of the right knee
@strangeform8 ай бұрын
Not torn, but there is a seam there where the upper and lower legs are glued together. One was glued correctly, but the other is off and needed to be corrected so the figure doesn't lean. I should have said this in the video, but the figure feels like when you redo a model kit that someone who wasn't as skilled put together. I got it new for a lot less than $200 and probably would feel much worse if I had paid anywhere over full price.

NO MARMIT AND MEDICOM 23” are NOT IDENTICAL. I ( THOUGHT THEY WERE AT FIRST ALSO, but they are different) Both use the giger statue as a source , and it’s likely that the same artists sculpted the statue, but they are different. I had the marmit and I have the Medicom and they are not identical. Also the medicom is NOT VINYL… IT IS POLYSTONE AND THE ONLY VINYL IS THE CARAPACE. The description was wrong wrong wrong on all retail outlets …..
