They spoiled us with the T6 customizations. It was the perfect blend of goofy and actually cool clothing. The only thing I didn’t like was the how much fight money simple things costed and pieces only came in set colors. If we could get those kinds of character specific parts with the T7 color picker, it would be perfect. (Side note: one thing that really irked me with t7 customization is that certain parts of a characters base costume wasn’t color editable, which throws off my color schemes)

A combination of T6’s character specific clothes and TTT2’s decal system (which they just yoinked from Soul Calibur) would really make the best Tekken customization in the series.

Credit to TTT2 though, they let you make custom decals, whereas SCV only let you work with the symbols/stickers provided.

The customization song in TTT2 is my favorite Tekken song ever! I was able to make Yu Narukami and Yusuke Hanamura from Persona 4 and thats all I needed from the customization, lol

I will say Tekken 7's abysmal customization comes from many things. It was almost the end of the series the budget was running out, Bandai Namco was losing patience and things were dire It was a new engine like they have not worked with unreal before. (which is why many say the other Tekken games still look good compared to 7) so originally it was hard for them to make things right such as the colors and even how the clothes fit on the characters. You can also see from the base characters costumes they were mainly focused on heavily redesigning the characters. look at most of the base Tekken 7 characters a bunch of new characters and almost everyone is redesigned. Though none of that makes up for the fact that the game blew up and made millions and they didn't do much to add other than some content throughout the seasons

I think Virtua Fighter was in part to thank for Tekken 6's customization being so good. Both series were making similar advancements in customization at the same time, with VF5 having a similar system to Tekken 6, with lots of unique pieces per character and different layers. That sense of competition and trying to match or exceed the other game's features led to some great stuff. Then VF went on ice, and Tekken's customization has regressed, or made side-grades at best.

I love Tekken 6/TTT2’s customization, it had clean drip for characters in the game. Tekken 7 is ok. Tekken 5 was limited since it was the first.

T5 and T6 were the peak in terms of customization. There was an odd quirk in the PSP version, though. You can't equip anything with the aura or ki on.

Tekken 5 DR on psp was an amazing game. The customization was great and you didn't need to grind for stuff, my favourite item was the prince from katamari being on lili`s head .

You didn't mention it, but Dark Resurrection's customisation is mostly the same as Tekken 5 except it has a bit more stuff (such as auras and other clothing items) and all the extra outfits unlocked right from the start.

I like the O.G. fans of Tekken understand the amount of effort was made from T6-Tag2. Like fr. Dont see how all these noobs think the T8's customization is "INSANE!!!" tekken customization went to complete clownery, and judging by what players do with their characters, that's what they like, sadly. seems like we're never having classic outfits from all previous games as unlockabkes for customization, it's not as fun as fire wings, pizza boxes and anime cat ears, right.

Personally how I’ve always looked at since TEKKEN 5 ps2, the customisation was a introduction, nothing major like say TEKKEN 6, but TEKKEN 5 dark resurrection PSP gave a more 2.0 version🔥 of TEKKEN 5 with customisation options. Side note; TEKKEN 5 dark resurrection PS3 had the open space to have a sort of customisation option but didn’t at all. Now TEKKEN 6, absolutely amazing customisation! I recently actually got my Xbox 360 out to start a new save on TEKKEN 6 and I have to say coming back it’s amazing, the options I never realised how good and better, it is out of all the TEKKEN games after.. it’s so good exclusive items, more realistic options it just was good! It felt more better! And the Kazuya gold don’t start its amazing because then TEKKEN TAG 2.. now the customisation was not bad, it was good but yet compared to whole outfits sharing things it almost felt cheap.. but still good nonetheless and it gets this title because TEKKEN 7…. I’m not sure, I still can get some customisation out of it but it just feels a bit.. some things are missing, the golden outfits the ones that are iconic to the player, but cost a lot and like you said a few odd items, can we stop the odd items, I really would like to see more realistic clothing etc things, Last note; the only thing from TEKKEN 7 for customisation I liked was changing the color hair.. HAHAHA AND THE WIG STYLE, that’s what I don’t like hair items the wacky shit just doesn’t work I’d like to see a more TEKKEN 6 approach but revamped

T6 had the best customization, imho. The amount of item slots were unnecessary in the most positive way, and it's only downsides were the lack of custom hair options and limited color picker. Oddly enough, they improved the custom hair options and added full RGB palette in TTT2, but downgraded the clothing slots, among other things. Hopefully T8 will use T6's customization as a base and build on that.

@@sunnymane Yeah, they may not have added a satisfying amount of item slots but at least shoes are back to being it's own slot now, which is great. Not only that, but you can fully customize them, too. And they even went as far as to fully customize accessories, i.e. changing the size, depth, and location similar to Soul Calibur. It's a bit of a bummer, but I'd say the it's leagues better than T7, ESPECIALLY launch version

the Wii U Version of TTT2 had a feature where you can just draw your decals^^ and T7 .. well yeah win 2k matches for everything except dlc characters though.. it really grinds my gears that you cannot put the Polish Karate Politician into the Stock Karate Gi.. but you can recreate Geese' Look from CvS2 with the Karate Gi even though his fighting style is Aikijutsu.. what?

I like tag 2s customization the best 7s clothing was terrible I think 6 was OK but there was also way way too much to choose from so you'd spend a lot of time 5 was ok but it was the beginning of customization so can forgive them for that. So, I think Tag 2 had the best overall (options, colour palettes, prices of clothes vs money earned )

However, this isn't hand drawn 2D sprite animation where your drawing 2000 frames per character. And on top of that, we plainly see how the mod community can quickly churn out DLC quality skins in just days and it's not costing them a dime so yeah it's cap

TK5's customization was limited? Technically yes but that's still a kinda complicated statement. Like what if it was alright for that time? I'm not familiar with many 3d fgs. Before 2005 there were other 3d fgs with better customization? If TK5's is below average compared to other 3d fgs from the same period then it's ok to criticize it.

Yes, there were 2002's Virtua Fighter 4:Evolution and 2004's Final tuned! which has a similar high quality level of customization that of tekken 6. (infact it predates it) the Virtua Fighter franchise itself was the first fighting game to add customization and the one that started all with VF4.
