I’m so obsessed with kajagoogoo. WHY DOESNT’T ANYONE TALK ABOUT THEM!??? they are so beyond underrated it is INSANE. Nick beggs is such a talent too. He’s VERY handsome, charismatic, and an amazing bassist. Same with the rest of the band, but Nick has always stood out to me. He’s a really fun guy, and the band wouldn’t be the band without him. His funky bass style is just awesome and I just love the way he plays. AND HE CAN SING TOO!!! big apple and turn your back on me are my favorite songs on the planet, good examples of Nick’s AMAZING voice! very under-appreciated and very talented group of people. I ordered a CD of theirs a few days ago and I can’t wait to get it. I just can’t get enough of kajagoogoo. this song in particular is also one of my favs, ugh it’s just so so good. I’ve listened to it like 5 times in a row lmao.

Nick ruined the Band with his Jealousy , obviously. This Band was Killed by Male Ego. Limahl is an execptional Great Singer, Beggs was a Great Bassist....THEY didnt find a Way to Peacful CoExist. I bet it was about Woman and Attention...on Nicks Site. He wasnt Happy with Limahl getting more like him....and the typical Point of this Tragedy is that Beggs had enough Female Fans to be Pleased.. too but he wanted more. He wanted Stuff,Fame that wasnt his but Limahls. Duran Duran f.e succeeded in These Questions by being Friends and Comrades. But maybe it was also the Support, the Female Fans who sensed that but didnt do anything about it, too. Cause this is Classic Story between Men and it always Happens but sometimes Women prevent it by telling Men better Lies . Doing more for Everybody. But of Course this has also Limits when someone is too Jealous.
@g.walter16532 жыл бұрын
I Say Nick ruined it. As a Man from the Outside i Blame him! And i also bet...that this was a Huge Let Down for the other 2 Members...who had maybe more so the Right to complain. They were pushed totally Aside by Beggs and Limahls Feud. They didnt Work together for the Best Interest of the Band.

To everyone wondering who the girl is- her name is Carmen Squire. She's the daughter of the late Chris Squire, bass player of the classic rock band Yes. I read somewhere that the director of this video was also friends with the Squires. Since young Carmen was already training to become a model and actress by this time, she was a natural and logical choice for this role. For reference- I turn 51 this November, so I was the same age as Carmen when this song and video came out. I was totally in love / lust with her back then. Even today, as a middle-aged woman, she's STILL a hottie! After years of dabbling in modeling, acting, and even some music recording, she's now a successful voice-over actress. The purpose of the video is NOT to promote the exploitation of a minor. The theme is that of a young girl daydreaming / fantasizing about being swept off her feet and romanced by her favorite pop idol- something that teen girls ( and boys ) very commonly do. God knows I had plenty of fantasies involving Vanity, Sheila E., Susanna Hoffs, and Ann & Nancy Wilson when I was a teen :) .

Wow! Thank you for that great fact. I never knew this. I love this song and the video is great.

That's just wow, 80s were a magnificent decade of true *"fan-tasizing"* MJ, Davide Bowie, George Michael, Bon Jovi , Limhal and so many others girls would just love to daydream about.
@Cougar1114694 жыл бұрын
@russ g Vanity ( RIP) and Sheila E. were both musical proteges of Prince, and highly successful R&B artists back in the 80s and early 90s. Susannah Hoffs was / is the lead singer of The Bangles. Ann and Nancy Wilson are sisters, the lead guitarist and vocalist of the rock band Heart, which has been around since the 70s.

When you were a Duranie- you followed all of their projects. This group was a discovery (?) of Nick Rhoads. MTV ran music stories every half hours and being a teenage girl - we were always thirsty for any Duran info. Still love that song, and of course ‘Too Shy’.
@bajsimausar69994 жыл бұрын
I'm also Kristofer , but as it is pronounced in my language and, well almost the same age (53 in february). So, I also had planty of fantasies involving many girls in videos beside, as I was more rocker, Nena, Joan Jett, Blondie, as my girlfriends dreamed about George Michael, Limahl, ... What I want to say about KGG ... when Limahl left the band I stoped to listened to them and some five years ago when I discovered them again I realised that in many ways they become more better. Well, Limahl is Limahl and he gave the band a big meaning.

UK #13 12/6/1983 Sonically even stronger than "Too shy" if you ask me. Steve Askew's guitar work, the keyboards and Nicks' bass create a haunting mood and atmosphere here. One of THE tunes that define the early 80s and the New Romantic era. 12" version also highly recommended - musical bliss ❤

Really a great sound, this was such a revolutionary style in 1983. It really was the break between the past and the future. They had such awesome sounds, and a beautiful voice too. England had some very innovative music at this time with culture club, and Duran Duran, and subsequently George Michaels. The best music was in demand, it was the most competitive time in music and this is what it took to get ahead and bring something new and innovative to the field. I just love the sounds they're making with the sound synthesis and the guitar, plus the music video is fascinating because just 5 years before was deep into disco with song like Street Player by Chicago.

LYRICS (YEAR 1983): No sooner than I turn my back and then It's so hard to find I'm on the decline with you. Were I to know your feelings? Is there something between me and you? Can't pretend you surprise me and Baby It's hurting me too. Hang on Girl Meet my heart It knows the best time for new love to start. Hang on Girl Meet my heart It knows the best time for us to start. Hang on Girl Won't you remain? Those special moments together I don't understand But can't we go ahead as we had planned? I've questioned all your reasons Underneath I can see somewhere my stolen lover Who really should still be with me. Hang on Girl Meet my heart . . . Hang on Girl Meet my heart . . . Should I hang on - should I stay? What's the ransom - I will play? Hang on Girl Meet my heart . . . Hang on Girl Meet my heart. . . .

An impressive track and beautifully engineered sound, was a great time back then as well as musically. Bought the 12" in 83, played it a few times on a rubbish player amongst others of the day and put it away until aged 50 in 2015. Being much older now with a good hifi system and buying a top end Turntable (2015) i've played it way more now than i did then and it sounds soooo so good and always puts a huge grin on my face. Play it - repeat, play it - repeat, play it - repeat...............the whole track, that piano and Limahl's voice, a beautifully haunting track and early 80's masterpiece imo.

My favourite song of Kajagoogoo, because the beautiful basses make it so mysterious and eerie. The instrumentation all in all can't be better. I like it even more than 'too shy', turn your back on me', 'big apple' and 'lion's mouth'.

Beautiful track, good production, lovely synth + Linndrum. For me, it still sounds excellent here today in our crazy 2019!
