OH MY GOD..OH MY GOD...I HAVE TO USE THE CAPS...THIS IS A BRILLIANT SONG...EVEN MADE BRILLIANT WITH GOOD LYRICS, TUNE, RHYTHM, VOCAL QUALITY, TEXTURE, ACCOUSTICS, ORGAN AND GUITARS FROM HIM TOO...SONGS OF THE 80S ARE FAR FAR BETTER QUALITY THAN SONGS OF YEAR 2018...I LOVE THIS TEENAGE PRODIGY AT AGE 14-17 STEVE WINWOOD...STILL BELTING HIS SONGS UP TO TODAY...HES AHEAD OF HIS TIME...

I want this song on my tombstone. Since 1982. Love it. I hope I hear him play it live some day. Such a brilliant singer, guitarist, keyboard...Maybe an encore with 'Don't Be Sad,' ''Sea of Joy,' "I'm a Man," "Gimmie Some Lovin', "You Can All Join In," ....ahhhh.

It's inspiring to see him leading the band with a monophonic lead keyboard! I think most ofthe time that would be some dude in the back but I love that the keyboard (especially, again, monophonic and used as prominent lead part) is right up there in front!
@stonelenny5 жыл бұрын
Monophonic? It´s a Grey Matter E! Expanded YAMAHA DX7IIFD (I had one). It has 16 voice polyphony. But this clav lead timbre CAN be monophonic. But I agree with you point. R&R is more than guitarrocracy.

I saw Stevie Winwood in concert in 1986 at the New Haven Coliseum. Funny story about it though. My roommate had said to me "Jimmy Cliff is playing at the Coliseum on August 15. Do you want to get tickets? I said certainly. So I went down to the box office to get the tickets. I said I wanted two tickets to see the Jimmy Cliff concert. The ticket clerk said that Jimmy Cliff wasn't playing in New Haven. I told him August 15. He said no, August 15 was Stevie Winwood. It took a few seconds for him to look again, and then he said "Jimmy Cliff is opening for Stevie Winwood on August 15. I said "Fantastic. Gimme two of those!" Come the second week in August there was a strike going on at the Coliseum and the concert would be postponed til November. When the concert was rescheduled I went down to exchange the tickets and found out that Jimmy Cliff was no longer touring with Winwood. Level 42 would be opening for him (never heard of them). We were disappointed of course but wouldn't take a refund on the tickets because we still wanted to see Winwood. It was one of the best concerts I'd ever been to! He was backed by a sensational Caribbean band, who probably would have played for Jimmy Cliff too. But they didn't play like a backup band, more like Stevie Winwood and his Band. To this day I've never gotten to see Jimmy Cliff, but Stevie Winwood put on quite a show that night.

I am grateful. So many fortunate moments seeing these two legends, separately and apart. Never yet heard this song live. Bummer. Winwood, 09.25.2003, one of the most vintage shows and - to my uneducated ass - one of the most smoking guitar players maybe all time, rivaling Clapton, Harrison and maybe even Paige. He and his band played to a *nearly empty* Wiltern in LA (WITAF??) but we nabbed front row seats at least. The only other thing I'd love to see, along with this tune live, would be these two playing this song with Clapton on lead vocals. Same for Bell Bottom Blues, Winwood on lead guitar and vocals.
