Deadeye doesn't work against cataclysm I think, its the same as other wraths. There is no way to stack the effects correctly. It does work with slow flicker like aetherling, obviously.

so...this is silly, but I got crazy excited when I saw Dramatic Reversal. it combos with isochron scepter so well. in a deck like Mizzix, you use this combo with artifact ramp (enough to produce at least 2, ideally 3) to grape shot someone down. or use a tap to deal 1 damage effect on a perminant to burn everyone down. or sphinx bone wand/gutter snipe for that matter.

Nissa's ultimate is better than a one sided Horn of Greed because it's whenever a land ETBs, not whenever you play a land. In EDH it's super abuseable with Scapeshift, Splendid Reclamation, Tempt with Discovery, Manabond, or any of the plethora of ramp spells. Be careful someone doesn't Path or Swords your Gaea's Cradle though should you choose to use her +1 to untap it and turn it into a creature.

Sedris! Sedris is the deck for most of the cards you are doubting! He lets you cheat the gearhulks into play for 3. And the deck's synergy with cataclysmic is insane, so hyped!

I am excited for Panharmonicon, mostly because I can put it in Hazezon Tamar and it will be a beast there. Works so well with a few cards already in the deck such as the aforementioned Purphoros, but also Aura Shards. I do not know if it would trigger Hazezon Tamar's ETB effect twice though, as he creates a delayed trigger.

Regarding Dubious Challenge, I think since it says "target player" only and not "choose target opponent", you still have to choose an opponent before you start resolving this.

I think that an aspect of ghonti that you didn't mention is that he can allow some interactions that a mono-b deck usually shouldn't be able to play, for example mass land destruction or a way to deal with artifacts and enchantments

I guess so. But you have to get very luck since it's just random cards off the top of your opponents deck. It's certainly not something you can count on.

From this set or in general? It's pretty hard to make a deck that includes black not touch the grave though; you miss out on a ton of powerful cards. You don't have to go full reanimator, but cards like Animate Dead are just good.

Gonti is great in the 99 of reanimator decks. He lets your deck play cards it shouldn't be able to. I'll aim at the blue player and then have a counterspell ready to go in Meren, yes please.

With Dubious challenge, since it says up to two creatures and they have to put one into play, you could only choose Phage the Untouchable in the picking, which would cause your opponent to just lose the game, and you would have no creatures to put into play. Too mean?

It says target opponent "may" choose to put one into play. You, however, do not have a may ability so I'm thinking the opponent would just decline and then kill you with your own Phage instead.Cool idea though, I like how you're thinking!

My point was there are quite a few spells (like Steal Artifact and Control Magic) that just take stuff without the need to give them anything in return at all. Besides in very specific decks (like Zedruu) these effects are almost always better (and cheaper CMC).

Given Tamiyo, Wizards doesn't really pay too much attention to that one. Saheeli can't do it, but three-mana walker basically never can. Dovin can't, but that's because his star ability is a -1 instead of the larger negatives you often see for card advantage on four-mana walkers (see cards like Kiora). Chandra, Nissa, every four-plus mana walker from the last few sets, they all get to insta-ult.

Well yes, but looking at an analysis of recent planeswalkers I think Jimmy and Josh are wrong on that front. Wizards definitely has a methodology for these walkers but I don't think Doubling Season is a big piece of it.

I guess if you imagine MTG Commander games as battles with cardboard, yeah Aetherflux Reservoir is powerful. I think you forgot about the Flavor the game, and in Commander/ EDH the flavor of a card matters. Sorin Markov just kills people for no reason- if you activate his ability. We Commander players will decide who lives and dies, its not an AUTO kill as you said
