Heard this on WHUR , Howard University , Washington DC during the day (not Quiet Storm !) some years back in the early 2000's.....not afraid to mix in a timeless 'classic' with whatever was on the airways at the time......SLAVE did a concert at Martin Stadium , NJ , late '70s (1978 ?)

Ah the group called Kaleidoscope Actually Started as the first of January. Were managed by Loyd Dowdell who used to live on Grove st in East Orange NJ. I had taken them down to Philly a couple of times to meet with Norm Harris. I am still friends and keep in touch with some of them, and if anyone is interested in getting a copy of song on cd let me know.

Sounds like WNJR-AM 1430 was the bomb. I bought this record in 1975, but first heard it by a group called Joy back in early '73 on WDAO-FM in Dayton, OH. I have both records. For a long while I've believed that Joy and Kaleidoscope were the same group. Beautiful song.

I had both “Thank You” and "We're Not Getting Any Younger" by Kaleidoscope and they were both among my favorite Philly produced mellow sounds (though the group itself was from East Orange, New Jersey). As a matter of fact, I once was part of a DJ Training School called Kaleidoscope in NYC and blew their minds when I put "Thank You" on the turntable! Thank you Tommy Harrington, Hazel King Moore, James Perry, Sylvia Walker and especially Derrick "Derky" Culler for not only the music but your informative comments below!

Now I realise that Norman Harris is credited with its arrangement but it has Thom Bell/Bobby Martin's fingerprints all over it. Could've been written for Blue Magic and even has a transition that sounds very similar to on e in Born On Halloween. I'm convinced that they simply used the original backing track as the arrangement is exactly the same, re-recording the vocal tracks. Fantastic tune :-)

Let's not forget Ron Baker-Norman Harris and Earl Young played on everything out of Philly, not to mention MFSB, so even on Thom Bell and Bobby Martin's productions you are going to hear Baker-Harris-Young. And, by the way, Earl Young is the same drummer who gave disco the high-hat sound and is a member of The Trammps! If the music on "Thank You" reminds you of the sound you hear on Blue Magic cuts, check out Kaleidoscope's "We're Not Getting Any Younger"!

Yup! They performed live that Summer at a Stadium in East Orange too, opening up for Peter Brown whose huge that year was "Do Ya Wanna Get Funky Wit Me". One of the members Derrick (Dirky) Culler was married to my cousin and had 3 children with her. He later became a Producer\Songwriter in his own right. One of his hits was sung by none other than Jermaine Jackson himself named "Don't Take it Personal".
