The thing I love most about this remix is that it also perfectly encapsulates Nia's Journey through XC2. The first time it's heard in XC2 is a very sad tragic scene whereby Nia's Fear results in Vandham's Death. It's truly tragic and sad that she cannot be herself, despite desperately wanting to be. The Next major appearance of this track is when she Finally accepts herself and reveals her true self to everyone, She's finally free, though there's still tragedy, but what was merely a tragic, sad, song is now tinged with hope, an underlying current of positivity. Fast Forward to now: Nia's Life is at its best. She's free to be herself, She's got friends she can count on, people who love her, people who look up to and rely on her, she's literally able to do for others as Rex did for her. Her life is pretty great now, and she's even got a trustworthy partner she's working with to save everybody. This Track's Vibrant, upbeat pace shows she's no longer bound by the tragedies of her past. They are still an important part of her, but no longer shall they define her. This being her Battle Theme shows just how far she's come since XC2 Chapter 3.

In the past I'd heard people claim Drifting Soul was Nia's theme, and I always insisted that it was more broad than that, a track whose lyrics applied to so many characters in XC2 that saying it was specifically that of only one would be overly reductive. Well, you guys were right. Drifting Soul is Nia's theme.

I think both assessments are correct in this case. It's definitively Nia's theme because it plays during what she considers one of her biggest failures (Vandham dying) and her penultimate scene being her awakening. Yet it also plays in Torna for Mythra and the lyrics can apply to them both as well as Malos and Jin. Tldr: it's a really nuanced character theme

But the subtle references to them are better enjoyed and appreciated if you have knowledge of 2. Also, snippets of this song are used around the Cloudkeep section, which was what I was referring to as well. 1 on the other hand doesn't have that much references other than Alcamoth and Melia with the World Ender. That said, 2's good and has some beautiful sights for people to see. Those stigmas around the game are silly imo.

The game is like 2, a self-contained story with no direct connections with the others until the very end. Having Melia and Nia as post-game heroes is not only fanservice, but a way to encourage new players to play 1 (specifically the Definitive Edition) and 2 (including Torna). So don't be sorry, every Xenoblade game is made with the idea of being the starting point for some players in mind. Also, that's the reason why most of the fanservice will be relegated to DLC, as only the fans of the whole series would understand what's going on.

Both 'Noah' and 'Mio' as well as their Moebius counterparts (who are in fact the original aspects of them as we learn in the story that our playable Noah and Mio are the 'dreams and aspirations' that split off from N and M and manifested) are reincarnations of the ones presumably before the worlds of XC1 and XC2 collided. The only notion we get comes from the fact that Nia senses a very familiar relationship between herself and the Mio we knew from the start of the game.
