Kalenda maya is a 12th century song by troubadour, Raimbaut de Vaqueiras, one of the southern French lyric poets and singers who developed the musical tradition of courtly love. French can be used only anachronistically for him as Provence is now part of France. In the time when he lived though, Provence was part of the Kingdom of Burgundy, itself part of the Holy Roman Empire. Raimbaut himself was Occitan and specifically Provencal...a culture different, specific and must be also said - suppressed in favor of that of northern France that is now so much imposed on all which is called France.

Es una canción de amor que compuso Vacqueiras para una tal Beatrice que no le daba ni la hora. The title kalenda Maya (mars calendar) is indeed a reference to the start of spring, which in turn is a reference to love (and more specifically erotic one) because many species enter in heat in the spring. Seeing the lyrics it's obvious that it's a love song.
