Once you put the tech found in this in-5 into the in-8 I will buy the in-8's. I have your lp-6's right now, and I do like them, but the noise has made me set them further back then I would like to keep from hearing the sitting noise. This is why I didnt buy the IN-8's when they came out because I heard that they had the same self noise as my LP-6's. You guys are making great mointors, glad to see your finally tweaking things where the previous line fell short.

Thank You! I've been holding out on picking up a pair of IN-8s. Love them, but not their self noise. Heard the second wave is coming, and now it begins. So the question is: How long before an IN-8/mkII or IN-10s? vs. How do the New IN-5s + WS-12 (2.1) compare with IN-8s (2.0)? I'll likely get a pair of IN-5s either way for my home office as they are undoubtedly the best, smallest, least expensive 3-way monitors ever produced. And once you go 3-way, you can't really go back.

We don't have a definitive timeline for other new products, but it won't be for a little while yet. IN-5s + WS-12 is gonna be some serious boom boom boom. Personally, I'd always rather go with a sub and smaller speakers vs. larger speakers on their own.

That looks cool! I notice on the spec page that the IN-5 is slightly more power and even a touch louder than the IN-8. I was thinking about going from my LP-8s to IN-8s, but now I'm wondering if I should wait a little for second wave stuff to come out

The IN-8 is still much more authoritative on the low end. Need more power for the IN-5 because that little woofer has to MOVE to keep up. :)

Every since Warren Huart presented the LP6's, I've been in love with your brand and I'm getting Kalis as my next monitros, I'm just hesitant on which would be the best option for my room (a small one 8.3ft h x 8.95ft w x 11.74 ft l, the room is treated) the LP6's or these new IN5's. What would you reccomend best? Or maybe I could wait for a v2 of the LP6's maybe? hehe

For the WS-12, just use the 80 Hz crossover. The IN-5s are 3 dB hotter at 0 (noon) than the LP-6s, so you might need to turn the sub up a bit to compensate.

OK for a home-studio but I just need to sound my stage piano (Kawai MP11se). Are they apropriate for that kind of use ? Because, for the moment, I didn't find any satisfying monitor (actually Focal alpha 65 :( ) . Should I prefer the IN-8 (for the bass rendition) ?

Depends entirely on how much low low end you need. These will do 39 Hz at -10 dB, which is Eb 1. If you want Bosendorfer low end on that bottom octave, the IN-8s might be a better choice, or add a sub. Otherwise, the imaging and clarity of these will make them a fantastic choice.

Would this speaker make sense if you already have a subwoofer? I think the IN-8 would be too big considering I sit quite close. The only thing is JBL doesn't have an adjustable crossover built into it.

What subwoofer are you using? We do not have settings on our full-range monitors for use with a sub, but many subwoofers, including ours, have settings for use with different monitors.

It's a much older model (even the newer TV series from Adam is better that the AX series), has far more limited bass extension, it's a two-way vs three-way here and is generally due to be upgraded sooner or later. I would choose Kali anytime.

From about 2 meters, it's unlikely that you'll hear a HUGE difference between the -5 and the -8. Beyond that listening distance, you might prefer the -8s.

Soon! They are on a boat. Optimal distance is anywhere out to 2.2 Meters. There is very little self noise, so you can be quite close.

In most settings, tweeter out will work better, but there are some times when tweeter in works better. Try both and choose the one you like more.

IN-8 has far lower distortion, and plays a teeny bit deeper and a teeny bit louder. But the real difference is distortion.

@@sergeiprostaklas so the IN-5 has 12 dB less noise than the LP-6. It's also a 3-way, so you get a dedicated midrange, which means that the woofer and tweeter both have more headroom. It's also coaxial so the imaging (which is already pretty damn good on the LP-6) is incredible.

@@sergeiprostaklas The 6.5-Inch on the LP-6 gets 40W of power and has to handle everything from the bottom of the frequency response to 1500 Hz. The 5-Inch on the IN-5 gets 80W and only has to play to 280Hz. So it gets more power and does less work. All of this means that overall, at the low end of the frequency response, the IN-5 and the LP-6 are about the same.

So I've been using IN-5 for a couple of weeks now, I like them, great job, lads! Self-noise issue of gen1 In-8 is gone. I can still hear hiss from tweeter in a quiet isolated room if I put my ear near it, but it's basically not an issue.
